Resolved Question: What questions should I ask a travel agent?

My girlfriend and I are getting married in Oct. this year and are planning our honeymoon to go to Aruba. I met this travel agent several months ago after transporting her to a test in the hospital where I work and she gave me her information and all which I still have. So her recommendation was Aruba since it's off the hurricane belt. We want an "all inclusive" package. Want sort of questions should I ask her when I call her? Would it be indecent to ask her for a little discount since I sort of took care of her? I'm only asking for suggestions since I, evidently, never dealt with travel planning and such. more

Resolved Question: Destination Wedding Questions?

Hi there, My fiance and I have started planning our wedding..well thinking about it. We would love a destination wedding in the caribbean. I'm thinking Turks and Caicos, Aruba, St. Lucia etc. We also have a 3 year old daughter so we would love family friendly resorts that have a lot of activities for kids as there are young children in both our families. I spoke with a travel agent and absolutely fell in love with Beaches Resort and Spa in Turks and Caicos...I can only imagine how much this place would cost! I don't want to have to ask my guests to dish out $2000. Here's my question, have any of you planned a destination wedding? Where do you start? How does the whole booking start with a travel agent...do you have to pay them while they look for deals and try to get a solid price for you? How does that work? Also where have you gone and how much did you and your guests have to pay? What is the proper etiquette, who do you invite? I imagine for us it would be a small gathering, I don't want anything extravagant just a nice wedding on a beach and a dinner with close friends and family. Please let me know, I'm not sure how to start this at all....lol Thank you! more

Voting Question: The guy im seeing wants me to get an abortion?

Ok. Long story as short as I can make it: Me and this guy have been friends for about 3 years. Never really dated or did anything sexual. Just on the terms of literally best friends. We hung out almost everyday, movies, ate, mall.. whatever. He's 8 years older than me.(he's 33) I have a child from my previous relationship. He was always very yes and no about the whole kid thing (that's a reason why we never hooked up)..(another reason is bc he smoked weed A LOT, I didn't approve of it and didn't want my kid around it at all) Anyway as time went on he accepted the fact of my kid a little more.. warmed up to her, stopped smoking .. he still did it but only when we were around. all that. Resolved Question: Need help!! Planning honeymoon, but where to go? Give me your feedback and experiences please!!!?

Ok. Getting hitched, and me and my guy always go for the vacations that end up leaving you tired when you come home... backpacking in italy or gem mining or ust alot of planning involved in trips. So we figured we were going to do a beach nearish us. We are in Pittsburgh Pa... we were thinking like Aruba or St Lucia or st Martin or any of the beaches near florida or around that area. I have googled All inclusive vacations, but they seem very pricey... Are the worth it?? Does anyone have any experience anywhere that they can share? Or should we do our own thing or rent a villa. We like the idea of not having to worry about anything, but if you go that route which all inclusive do you choose? Is there a little island gem that we are missing!? Need help please!!!!! Give me any feedback you have on your own experiences or things you may have heard including-- which islands are awesome... where to stay... what to do... where to eat... all that jazz!!! Hit me up cause we are in need!!!!! THANKS! more

Resolved Question: Where is a good tropical (warm) place to go on vacation that is for adults only that has gambling?

Dreaming of vacation ideas for a few years down the road. Would like to go to Jamaica, Mexico or anywhere warm and tropical. Thought about Aruba but was told to stay away from there. Does anyone know of any resorts that are for couples/adults only that have gambling? I love Vegas but tend to spend all time indoors at the casinos there. Would like some resort on the beach that has gambling available. Does such a place exist? more

Voting Question: Where should we go on Vacation?

Heres our situation. We are expecting a nice some of money, approx. $7000. We are using some of it to pay off student loans, but with the remainder we want to go on a nice vacation. We've gone to Aruba and Jamaica and although we loved Aruba and liked Jamaica, we are looking for something different. Can anybody give us any ideas? Europe, Asia, Africa, the South Pacific, and South America area all places we want to go so nowhere on the globe is off limits for us. This is probably a once in a life time vacation as we are just middle class and dont see many of these opportunities in the future. Where would you suggest? more

Voting Question: Please, I need your advice on something?

Here's the thing: I'm doing my final exams this year, and I'm planning to go on a holiday (just a week or so) directly thereafter (that's kinda tradition here, everybody does). Where I really wanted to go, was Aruba, where also some relatives of mine live. However, I don't want to go there alone. My girlfriend has her final exams next year, so she can't go there with me, so I thought about going there with some friend of mine. She is my ex-gf, but I'm still very good friends with her. I don't have any feelings for her anymore, and my gf knows that. The problem is, should I do that? My other friends are all going on holiday to Portugal, so they can't go with me, but I really, really badly want to go to Aruba. What should I do? Should I go with my ex, or should I go with my other friends to Portugal? I haven't asked my gf yet what she thinks, but I just don't know what to do. Could you give me advice? more

Resolved Question: Should I go to Aruba on vacation?

So, I was given the option of where to go. I could either stay at home, chill with friends, hang out with family members, or go to Aruba, the same place I've been going to since 1st grade.(Now I'm in 8th.) Take this into perception of a 13 year old girl. So, I really need ideas and thoughts because I could still sell my plane ticket up until tommorrow at one in the afternoon idk why though. more

Resolved Question: Best island to visit in the Caribbean?

Flying from New Jersey. We like to relax more than doing excursions. Nice sandy beaches and clear water are a plus of course. We are adults without kids (late 20's, early 30's) so we're also looking for a nice nightlife (casinos, bars, etc). We've been to Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, and Cancun. Wondering where to go next and what time of year. We narrowed it down to: Barbados St. Lucia Turks & Caicos Virgin Islands Others... Thanks so much! more

Resolved Question: The Westin Aruba (Palm Beach) - are there grocery stores within walking distance?

I'm staying at the Westin in Aruba on Palm Beach in Feb 2010. When I travel, I like to buy beer at the grocery store and then bring it to the beach each day in a cooler (I can't stand paying $7 for a corona at the beach bar). Resolved Question: Does Japan recognize foreign gay marriages?

according to this article, http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2009/03/27/Japan_OKs_Foreign_Marriages_for_Gay_Citizens/ The answer is yes. but according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_Japan ........hard to say.............. it basically just says, "Japanese Justice Ministry announced plans to issue the necessary certificates" just announced PLANS.......so...have they done it yet? look on that wikipedia page....on the right-hand side of the page....... on that side-bar..... ..it lists all the places in the world where gay marriage is legal and under the category "RECOGNIZED, NOT PERFORMED" it lists: "Aruba, Israel, Netherlands Antilles, and the United States" Why isn't Japan on that list? Is there a way to edit that so that Japan is on that list? I know wikipedia has its flaws but 99% of the time it's generally known to be a valid source. What's up with this? more

Resolved Question: My Ex is still trying to control me and he is out of town. Help !?

My ex just went away to Aruba. A trip that had to be planned in advance because you have to take a plane and he had to make sure his time share was available. He did not tell me about this trip or when he was going. We have joint visitation and per our court order he had it listed that "each parent is allowed one vacation a year without our child," which I'm fine with. (not to mention he has already taken his 1 vacation this year and I choose not take mine without my child) When I emailed him to get it in writing about the dates of his trip, I remined him I was 9mths pregnant and I just need to put arrangements in place for our 8 year old in case I go into labor. Example: so she can be picked up from school. The day after Thanksgiving I sent this email with know response from him. I found out from my 8 year old when she said "Daddy is coming over to say goodbye." That he was going away that night and that she was going to go to his mothers to cover his visitation days. He never told me. His mother then tried to get out of watching her, which was know surprise, knowing her history. My 8 year old got extremly nervous and was afraid daddy was going to get mad. I was scared to keep her home because of how aggressive he is to me, but wanted to since I would rather have her with me all the and was relived when his mother declined to watch her. I figured that her father can't get mad at me now. My 8 year old knowing how her dad yells at me all the time, tried to avoid the future conflict and hid to call her Nana- then pleded to go over her house. In the end, I felt bad for my 8 year old and allowed her to sleepover her Nana's house, with the agreement it would be for one night. I just got a text message from her father demanding that our daughter stay at his mothers, that I am not to pick her up and that he already told me where she would be. - the problem started because he never told me He is in Aruba, out of state and I want to pick my child up and feel there is know reason for her to be at his mothers when I am perfectly capable of watching her and want to. If he had called me to tell me of his anticipated vacation I would have told him that I want to have her. He choose not to tell me. It seems like he was planning on leaving for his vacation without telling me and then remembered I was due to go into labor and he got nervous, probably figuring this would look good for me in court, if he left on his visitation days. Now I want to go pick her up tomorrow, but since I am afraid of him I am nervous for when he comes home that I am going to get yelled at or that I am going to get abusive text messages until he returns home. I am pushing 30 and am trying to work on sticking up for myself when it deals with him, but it is so tough when my 8 year old unintenionally gets put in the middle. What would you do ? more

Resolved Question: HELP! I've got 2 free plane tickets and want to plan a vacation, tropical and inexpensive, where would you go?

THIS IS A BIT LONG< READ ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO HELP ME DECIDE: THANKS! First of all I don't want to sound like I am complaining here, just confused on where to go. I realize I am very lucky to have the tickets! The plane tickets are for anywhere in the U.S. plus Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Aruba. Most of these places outside the U.S. would be too expensive though in terms of hotel and food for me right now for two people, so where else in the mainland U.S. could I visit that is somewhat near a nice beach, maybe some shells, and isn't too expensive for a hotel there and food? I only have about an extra 1,000 for a 3 day trip somewhere for the hotel and food and spending. All I want to do is spend some quality time with my husband and sit and watch the waves, drink a tropical drink at a tiki hut, swim in a huge pool and possibly take a boat out to a little island to find some shells. (Otherwise I also have free hotel rooms at any Harrah's hotel in the U.S. so I guess they have Harrah's in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, New Orleans, Phoenix, and other places more inland in the U.S. That would be very cheap then since I would then have free air and hotel, but none of those places is really that tropical!) I could also choose to fly to New Orleans or Miami and try a 4 day cruise. Upside of that: fairly cheap and could see Key West AND Mexico ! And lots of food all included in the price Downside: I've never been on a cruise , sometimes there are hidden costs to consider, tipping, extra excursion, etc. and I wouldn't get into the pool with tons of people, no privacy, and could seem like I'm stuck on a boat with a bunch of drunks since I heard the 4 days cruises are "party cruises". Again see I'm totally stuck on what to do and where to go with these tickets! Anyway if I don't do the Harrah's free hotel thing or the cruise then, I was thinking possibly Pensacola, Florida since it is supposed to be cheaper and they still offer the touristy things to do there, but not sure if that might be too boring. Do you have other ideas that could work? I wouldn't mind using the free tickets to California but then the hotel prices are just too high. And Virginia Beach is supposed to be nice but I'm not sure if it is expensive to visit and I know it won't be as tropical as Florida or Cancun of course since there will doubtfully be tiki huts and tropical drinks/ not sure though? Also lots and lots of people say go to Cancun but I worry about a few things: crime to and from the hotels, crime at the hotels, crime going to dinner in the cities and I'd hate to see children begging on the beach on my vacation or stray dogs starving to death running down the beaches. If you've gone there, is that what you've encountered ever? Some previous yahoo people said that was what it was like, not fun for a vacation then. Someone recommended a place calledCancun Palace (p.s. my research shows: Le Blanc in Cancun looks amazing if you have more money than me for the trip!), someone else said Myrtle Beach, others Key West? Has anyone been to Key West lately, do you have any quiet beaches or are they all packed with crazy tourists? If I can't come up with a trip that my husband would also like, then he said I should just use one of the tickets to fly to my niece's wedding in Minneapolis and wait for the other ticket for something else ....BORING use of the 2 tickets I say, and then I might never go on the somewhat more "romantic" and "relaxing" trip with my husband. I think I'd rather just pay for the wedding ticket for myself separately.Sooooo ...... if you could go anywhere, where would you fly for a fairly inexpensive vacation with my 2 free tickets? I'm totally stumped on what to do and where to go! Thanks for any input!TRVLLADY- THANKS, my husband just said the same thing, make a list to help decide....so your advice was right on target since I am stuck. And I will look into Virginia Beach more extensively then as well! more

Resolved Question: Where should a single male, mid 30s, go for vacation: Aruba, Cancun, Grand Cayman?

Ok, I posted similar questions about before, but I am fast approaching the 11th hour as far as deciding. I am definitely going to do South Beach, so that is a no brainer, but I wanted to hit 2 of these 3 destinations. Which location should a guy go traveling single and in his mid 30s? Aruba, Cancun, or Grand Cayman? Thanks for the great feedback. Too bad I can't choose more than one best answer ^_^Ok, looks like so far the winners are Grand Cayman and Cancun. Thank you all for the GREAT Feedback. Going to lock up my reservations with my agent! I am not going to choose a best answer, they have all be great, no clear best. more

Resolved Question: If you have free airfare to either Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, Miami for a cruise, etc. where would you go?

Hi, we gave up our seats on a flight home from Florida to St. Louis and the airline gave us 2 free roundtrip tickets to anywhere they fly. We would only have to pay for hotels and food, or if a cruise, just the price of the cruise. We are 44 years old and are stuck on deciding where to go and what to do with our free tickets. Tropical Places Air Tran flies: Cancun, Aruba, Bahamas, Jamaica, Miami, Key West, and I think Cabo San Lucas. We only want to spend about 1200 bucks total for 3 nights somewhere. (This would need to include food and hotel/ or the total price for the cruise). We've never cruised before so I don't know if I'd like that or not. We looked into all inclusive places in Cancun that looked great but don't know which place is best. I checked out Atlantis in the Bahamas but that place seemed overpriced for about 1700 for 3 nights. We heard Jamaica has gone done hill somewhat and crime is a problem, not for sure on that though. Let me know what you'd do and where you'd go if you have traveled to any of these places. Thanks a lot for any information! SierraActivities we like to do: lounge around on a beach, sip drink at a tiki hut, look for shells, eat lots of food (seafood, yum!), take a little cruise to see dolphins or to go to a private island, gamble possibly, see a show maybe, but nothing that 20 year olds like, not too wild of partying etc. , more relaxed and secluded beaches preferably. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Why do some people blame natalee holloway's parents for her murder?

Just for letting her go to Aruba. It was a graduation gettaway. That's a good opportunity that shouldn't be missed. I think the parents are the last people to be blamed. I'm sure most parents expect their kids to be well protected when they are going on a school trip. How was they suppose to know it would turn out tragic? I was watching the natalee holloway movie and her mom told her to watch her drinking because guys can take advantage and natalee obviously took her as a joke. As sad as it is that she died she is really the primary person to be blamed because she allowed herself to get drunk, took drinks from guys, and ruined her judgement so bad to where she'd get in a car with strange guys and leave her friends. The second to be blamed is the school for not protecting those kids in the first place just in case they did do something stupid. It makes me sad that everytime I look at that movie I think " if she hadn't been drunk she would have came back home". I know some people might get mad at me. I'm not being cold hearted at all because I wish she had of learned from her mistakes without dying. I just hate it how people blame her mom and don't think drinking has anything to do with the tragedy even though it obviously does.Ladyb: your very right... And I still can't see how they let that guy off after he said everything on that video in private. more

Resolved Question: Aruba to Philippines?

My fiance is moving from Aruba (where he was living under a work permit) back to the Philippines. We are aware that he can not stop over in the US along the way because he doesnt have a US visa and they dont issue travel visas in short period of times anymore due to 9/11. I found a flight that stops in Punta Cana, then Amsterdam, then Manila. Will he be OK to travel to those destinations with just his Philippines Visa? more

Resolved Question: Aruba: Is there any dealer that rents scooters, motorcycles, or ATV's long term?

I'm 23 years old and just arrived in Aruba, where I will be staying for a 2-month work project. But I do not have a vehicle. I'm interested in renting something fun, reliable, and inexpensive for the duration of my stay. Scooters seem popular, and fit my current guidelines. However, I do not want to spend $40 "per day", since I will be staying here for about 60 days. That would total $2400 US Dollars! Do any dealers contract on a per month basis as opposed to a per day? Any info regarding such would be greatly appreciated! more

Resolved Question: What nationality am I?

My father was born in Aruba where he lived for many years, before moving to Guyana, then in turn moving to England. His parents were both born in Guyana and I believe his grandparents were Irish, Portuguese and Guyanese. My mum was born in Ireland, lived there until she was in her mid 20's, then moved to England. Both of her parents are Irish, as were her grandparents. Generations upon generations ago her family lived in France, but we're talking many generations here. On neither my mum's or dad's side is there any British blood, not a single drop. I was born in England and have lived here since I was born but I don't feel British at all because really the only way I am is that I was born here, and if for example I had a child in Mozambique I wouldn't say he or she was Mozambiquan even if he or she lived there for decades. See my point? Both of my parents are immigrants of non-British nationality so I don't see how I could be British really. So what is my true nationality? When people ask of my heritage I say I'm half Aruban and half Irish but in reality I'm probably something else. If somebody could work out what I am then that'd be great! :D Also, I don't carry a UK passport, only an Irish one. more

Resolved Question: Why do people like going to Jamaica?

I just returned from my second trip- My first trip I took I elected to take, this second trip was for a wedding. Both times I was in Negril. All I can say is that the locals do not leave you alone for a minute- From the moment you step off the plane you have to put up with people grabbing your bags without permission and carrying them out to the bus area where they demand 10 bucks and threaten not to give you your bag back if you refuse. Then, while laying on the beach it is a constant flood of locals accosting you for money, or rousting you out of a relaxed state to hand you a flyer...Just when you get back to relaxing another local will appear with a loudspeaker advertising a concert later in the night- And the thing is, if you are nice and just say "sorry," or "not interested," when they approach you, they will not take no for an answer. 9 times out of 10 they will make a scene ultimately screaming at you and telling you to never come back to Jamaica. It's like walking through skid row- There is no peace and it's horrifying. Why would anyone put up with it? I have also been to Aruba, Antigua, and St Barts...Have NEVER experienced the aggressive panhandling like you get in Jamaica. What a dump!Just a quick post script to "Ryan" down there...Jamaica is not themost visited destination in the Caribbean- It was in the 1970's...Now it is not even in the top 10- Check your facts there genius- I imagine the reason why is because the hassle factor is just too high. No one wants to be hassled virtually every minute of their trip- Plus the Robbery rate is through the roof, and the murder rate is the hishest in the Caribbean. more
