The girlfriend and I are looking for a 5-7 day Caribbean excursion. There are so many options on the table we feel we are spreading ourselves too thin in our search, so we'd like to narrow. Here's what we are looking for (in order of importance): 1) A price tag under $1600 when all is said and done. (Flight, hotel, food/drink, activities...everything) 2) Beautiful, not-too-crowded beaches with clean, clear water. Access to secluded areas, and kid-free beaches would be great. 3) A variety of activities. While the greater part of this trip will be beach relaxing, we definitely want a couple days of adventure. Specifically: snorkeling/diving, jungle tours/hiking, rafting/tubing, ruins and landmarks, off-roading, fishing, etc, etc. I'm a nature boy, so I'm more interested in off-the-beaten-path stuff as opposed to cookie cutter tourist trap stuff. We want nice amenities, but don't require 5 star. We are 31/26, so are down with a bit of nightlife, but aren't going crazy. If anyone has suggestions on destinations, and maybe even resorts or regions within those destinations, we would greatly appreciate the advice. Also, recs on where NOT to go are also great. My family wants to go to Aruba this spring for my Uncles birthday, because it is his favorite place in the world. However, I'm having a hard time with this. I am going on vacation with my 19 and 21 year old daughter and son. I have narrowed the locations to Aruba or Cancun. It costs more to travel to Aruba and takes longer and is more difficult than Cancun (originate in Chicago). Hotels are about equal. We would stay at Marriott Resort Palm Beach in Aruba or the JW Marriott Cancun Resort. It looks like the surf in Cancun is superior to Aruba. We are going to stay a week and would like to site see and tour a little while we are on vacation. I am leaning toward Cancun. We're a young couple interested in going to the Caribbean for the first time in July or August, for about a week or so. We're budget concious but are happy spoiling ourselves if the reward is worth the expense. We're not much into the party scene anymore (been there done that, trust me!) so we're looking for something more on the notion of romantic and relaxing with a twist of fun or perhaps extreme sports. I have free flight credits from JetBlue so we're interested in using those and going to somewhere JetBlue flies: Aruba, The Bahamas (Nassau), Dominican Republic (Santiago, Santo Domingo), or Puerto Rico (San Juan, Aguadilla, Ponce). We do drink and can rack up some outstanding bar tabs so an all-inclusive may be a good idea for us but we have no real experience with that either. I am looking for some recommendations on places to vacation in the Caribbean. I know there are a ton of islands to choose from but I would like some recommendations from people that have been there. I am looking for the following: 1. Nice beaches that aren't too crowded (will be going in June of this year) 2. A place that offers other activities besides hanging out at the beach. (i.e. hiking, biking, cultural activities) 3. Something that is geared more towards couples. I have looked at Aruba, St. Lucia and Barbados. Aruba seems a little too 'resort' oriented but the beaches look really nice along with the turquoise water. I am also pondering Belize and wonder if anyone has been there. If you have any hotel recommendations that would be appreciated too. I am thinking about All-Inclusive but have heard some bad things about that. I like the fact that the drinks are included but I don't like the fact that we would be limited to eating at specific places.
