WE ARE GOING ON A CRUISE IN DECEMBER AND WILL BE IN ARUBA ON CHRISTMAS DAY AND WE ARE WONDERING WHAT BESIDES RESTAURANTS WILL BE OPEN? IF ANYONE HAS BEEN TO ARUBA ON CHRISTMAS DAY AND COULD HELP US OUT WITH WHAT TO EXPECT WE WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! moreResolved Question: Cruising and Excursions for Kids?
We have been on a few cruises and perhaps I am not thinking about this correctly, but it feels like excursions for kids under 8 years old are pretty limited in terms of both what they can do and what they'd like to do: Beaches Animal encounters (rays, dolphins, sea lions...) What would you suggest? My extended family picked interesting sounding ports - but what do I do with my daughter once there? Dominica, Grenada, Aruba,...lots of logistics for me to go to different beaches each port day. If we are going to travel this much, I'd like to see and do different things, but dragging an unwilling child around can pretty much spoil anything. Oh yeah, she has a history of getting car sick so driving safari type stuff is not real high on my list. Ideas? Thanks in advance moreResolved Question: Royal Caribbean vs Carnival?
My family of three has been on four cruises, all on Disney Cruise Line. I am planning another cruise for August of 2010. My daughter will be 10 at that time. We've done eastern and western caribbean, and this time, we wanted to try southern. We've done the research and have decided on sailing out of San Juan, PR, but there are two ships and we can't decide which we should choose. We were looking for people who have been on these cruises to get their honest opinion about their experiences... Carnival Victory- Ports seem ok, St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, St Kitts, and St. Maarten. Nothing too exciting. Prices seem to be about $100 cheaper/person in all categories that RC. Royal Caribbean, Serenade of the Seas- Different ports depending on day of departure. (Curacao, Aruba, Dominica, St. Thomas vs Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, St Maarten, St. Croix) Again, will probably be about $350 more no matter if we stay inside/balcony/oceanview... We are specifically looking for info regarding children's activities... are they open early or late, do they charge extra, any problems with them, any exceptionally fun activities... and also we were looking out for loopholes that you find out on board... extras like soda cards, is alcohol or bottled water overpriced, etc. We've been told that having been only on DCL that we have been spoiled, and that no cruise line can compare (i.e., free soda 24/7) I find that super hard to believe, I mean, it's a floating tiny hotel room with food. We can live without the monkeys made out of towels. :-) thanks for reading and we are looking forward to your responses. moreResolved Question: Would you rather, 'This' or 'That'?
Building Snowmen or Building sandcastles? Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows or Chicken Noodle Soup? Riding in a Boat or In a Car With the Top Down? A Vacation to Florida or a Cruise to Aruba? Pizza or Calzone? Pancakes or Waffles? moreResolved Question: best carribbean cruise itinerary?
I am considering taking a caribbean cruise to eastern or southern carribean. I already have done a western, so I know I want to do a different region. My husband and I are in our mid-20s and we live in south florida. We like to snorkel and are very active, and also want to chill out in beautiful scenery and get a "local feel". We are the type to do stuff on our own once we get into the port instead of staying close to port or getting on the cruiseline bus. Here are 3 itineraries that work for the week that I am available to take the cruise: 1. Ft. Lauderdale --> Princess Cays Bahamas, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Grand Turk 2. San Juan Puerto Rico --> St. Thomas, Dominica, Grenada, Bonaire, Aruba 3. San Juan Puerto Rico --> St. Thomas, Tortola, Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados The cruises are basically the same price and all 1 week long and they are all on Princess which we have been on before. Basically I want to know if the southern itineraries aer worth it to do the extra flight to San Juan when we could otherwise just drive 20 minutes to the port to get on the boat (from the Ft. Lauderdale Cruise), and if so which one sounds the best? moreResolved Question: HELP! I've got 2 free plane tickets and want to plan a vacation, tropical and inexpensive, where would you go?
THIS IS A BIT LONG< READ ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO HELP ME DECIDE: THANKS! First of all I don't want to sound like I am complaining here, just confused on where to go. I realize I am very lucky to have the tickets! The plane tickets are for anywhere in the U.S. plus Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Aruba. Most of these places outside the U.S. would be too expensive though in terms of hotel and food for me right now for two people, so where else in the mainland U.S. could I visit that is somewhat near a nice beach, maybe some shells, and isn't too expensive for a hotel there and food? I only have about an extra 1,000 for a 3 day trip somewhere for the hotel and food and spending. All I want to do is spend some quality time with my husband and sit and watch the waves, drink a tropical drink at a tiki hut, swim in a huge pool and possibly take a boat out to a little island to find some shells. (Otherwise I also have free hotel rooms at any Harrah's hotel in the U.S. so I guess they have Harrah's in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, New Orleans, Phoenix, and other places more inland in the U.S. That would be very cheap then since I would then have free air and hotel, but none of those places is really that tropical!) I could also choose to fly to New Orleans or Miami and try a 4 day cruise. Upside of that: fairly cheap and could see Key West AND Mexico ! And lots of food all included in the price Downside: I've never been on a cruise , sometimes there are hidden costs to consider, tipping, extra excursion, etc. and I wouldn't get into the pool with tons of people, no privacy, and could seem like I'm stuck on a boat with a bunch of drunks since I heard the 4 days cruises are "party cruises". Again see I'm totally stuck on what to do and where to go with these tickets! Anyway if I don't do the Harrah's free hotel thing or the cruise then, I was thinking possibly Pensacola, Florida since it is supposed to be cheaper and they still offer the touristy things to do there, but not sure if that might be too boring. Do you have other ideas that could work? I wouldn't mind using the free tickets to California but then the hotel prices are just too high. And Virginia Beach is supposed to be nice but I'm not sure if it is expensive to visit and I know it won't be as tropical as Florida or Cancun of course since there will doubtfully be tiki huts and tropical drinks/ not sure though? Also lots and lots of people say go to Cancun but I worry about a few things: crime to and from the hotels, crime at the hotels, crime going to dinner in the cities and I'd hate to see children begging on the beach on my vacation or stray dogs starving to death running down the beaches. If you've gone there, is that what you've encountered ever? Some previous yahoo people said that was what it was like, not fun for a vacation then. Someone recommended a place calledCancun Palace (p.s. my research shows: Le Blanc in Cancun looks amazing if you have more money than me for the trip!), someone else said Myrtle Beach, others Key West? Has anyone been to Key West lately, do you have any quiet beaches or are they all packed with crazy tourists? If I can't come up with a trip that my husband would also like, then he said I should just use one of the tickets to fly to my niece's wedding in Minneapolis and wait for the other ticket for something else ....BORING use of the 2 tickets I say, and then I might never go on the somewhat more "romantic" and "relaxing" trip with my husband. I think I'd rather just pay for the wedding ticket for myself separately.Sooooo ...... if you could go anywhere, where would you fly for a fairly inexpensive vacation with my 2 free tickets? I'm totally stumped on what to do and where to go! Thanks for any input!TRVLLADY- THANKS, my husband just said the same thing, make a list to help decide....so your advice was right on target since I am stuck. And I will look into Virginia Beach more extensively then as well! moreResolved Question: If you have free airfare to either Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, Miami for a cruise, etc. where would you go?
Hi, we gave up our seats on a flight home from Florida to St. Louis and the airline gave us 2 free roundtrip tickets to anywhere they fly. We would only have to pay for hotels and food, or if a cruise, just the price of the cruise. We are 44 years old and are stuck on deciding where to go and what to do with our free tickets. Tropical Places Air Tran flies: Cancun, Aruba, Bahamas, Jamaica, Miami, Key West, and I think Cabo San Lucas. We only want to spend about 1200 bucks total for 3 nights somewhere. (This would need to include food and hotel/ or the total price for the cruise). We've never cruised before so I don't know if I'd like that or not. We looked into all inclusive places in Cancun that looked great but don't know which place is best. I checked out Atlantis in the Bahamas but that place seemed overpriced for about 1700 for 3 nights. We heard Jamaica has gone done hill somewhat and crime is a problem, not for sure on that though. Let me know what you'd do and where you'd go if you have traveled to any of these places. Thanks a lot for any information! SierraActivities we like to do: lounge around on a beach, sip drink at a tiki hut, look for shells, eat lots of food (seafood, yum!), take a little cruise to see dolphins or to go to a private island, gamble possibly, see a show maybe, but nothing that 20 year olds like, not too wild of partying etc. , more relaxed and secluded beaches preferably. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Where is a better place for vacation? Vegas, cruise or Aruba?
I'm also curious to know if it is expensive to eat in Vegas and what the pros and cons are to all 3 places... moreResolved Question: which island has the best snorkelling: St.Thomas, St. Martin, Aruba, Curacao?

I will be traveling on a Caribbean cruise and wonder if (USA) passports will still be stamped by the foreign officials. Several in our group are first time travelers and are hoping to get souvenier passport stamps from all of the island nations. I have head a number of countries no longer stamp passports or only stamp the on request. Some of the countries are: St. Croix, U.S.V.I., Basseterre, St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Curacao, Aruba Any helpful info will be appreciated. I'm planning an anniversary cruise for April 2010. I'm undecided as to which cruise to choose from below. Based on their itineraries, which would be the better cruise? We are in out late 20's: Royal Caribbean: Adventure of the Seas Day 1: San Juan, Puerto Rico Day 2: At Sea Day 3: Oranjestad, Aruba Day 4: Willemstad, Curacao Day 5: At Sea Day 6: Roseau, Dominica Day 7: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Day 8: San Juan, Puerto Rico Princess Cruises:Caribbean Princess Day 1: San Juan, Puerto Rico Day 2: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Day 3: Tortola, British Virgin Islands Day 4: St. John's, Antigua Day 5: Castries, St. Lucia Day 6: Bridgetown, Barbados Day 7: At Sea Day 8: San Juan, Puerto Rico moreResolved Question: The Caribbean per day or 1 week.?
Would you rather take a Caribbean Cruise to multiple islands for less than a day or Fly to a 4-5 star resort somewhere in the Caribbean for a week? Basically, me and wife want to go to the Caribbean but want to relax and have fun. Do I want to be on a ship chilling or in the atmosphere chilling? ie. Puerto Rico, Bahama, Aruba type stuff. No, not being on a cruise for a day. We will be on a cruise for a week but we only stay at the ports for less than a day. moreResolved Question: Which cruise do you personally think is better and why?
I have two cruises in mind, both of which leave the same day (April 9th, 2010) and from the same port. I have never been on either of these. My bf and I would be going. We're both 24 and have only been on one cruise, which was Carnival for 7 days and we LOVED it. We will be going to relax and have a great time and memorable vacation. We're not really into partying too much, so the "clubs" on the ship dont really matter. Out of these two cruises, which has better service, better food, better entertainment, and a younger crowd (as in not 55+). Any suggestions would be great! We are flying into Acapulco on 26th Dec on a P & O Panama Canal cruise aboard Artemis. This is out first cruise and we would welcome advise on excursions. Our ports of call are Acapulco, Huralcaco, Panama Canal, Limon, Aruba, St Lucia and Freeport. Can you recommend any excursions and should we pre-book them with the cruise line or are there any we can do independently? Also...what kind of weather can we expect on days at sea....will it be warm enough to swim or will the sea breeze be cold? moreResolved Question: How do I plan an all inclusive trip for a group of people?
I would like to go to Aruba for my birthday next year (June) and have had interest in the trip by a large group of friends. However, knowing this is a year a way we all figure we could find an agent and pay on the trip like they do for cruises. I need to know how I can plan a trip like this. Anyone have any ideas on how to get started? moreResolved Question: Which of these islands is best for snorkeling or an off-road jeep tour?
My boyfriend and I will be going on a Caribbean cruise in late October/early November and I'm trying to figure out what activities to do where (neither of us have ever been to the Caribbean). Here's the itinerary: Leave from San Juan, Puerto Rico St. Croix, USVI St. Kitts Dominica St. Lucia Barbados Grenada day at sea Curacao Aruba day at sea return to San Juan Which island offers the best snorkeling? By "best" I mean plenty to see and suitable for two people who aren't great swimmers and haven't snorkeled much. (I've heard Buck Island off of St. Croix is good, but that the water can be rough.) If at all possible, I'd prefer to do the snorkeling in the first half of the trip. Which island would you suggest taking an off-road jeep tour? I'm thinking Dominica because it seems to have the most nature, but I'm not sure. Also, any "can't miss" sights or experiences on any of these islands? Thanks! moreResolved Question: Going to Aruba on cruise and want to go to a beach...?
Okay....so we're going to Aruba in August and are doing and excursion in the morning with our.5 year old. However....in the afternoon we REALLY want to go to a beach on our own. We were thinking Palm or Baby. What we want to know is: how easy will it be to get there by taxi from the pier? Do we need a carseat? How safe is it? How expensive? How worth it? moreResolved Question: Tierra del Sol Golf Course (Aruba) - Worth it?
I'm taking a cruise in a few days, and the first stop is Aruba. Since it is the only stop on the cruise I'll have the chance to play golf, I'm looking into playing Tierra del Sol, but wanted to get other people's opinions on the course. I would have to rent clubs and pay for a taxi from the port to the course. Would it be worth my time and money to play? Thanks for the help! moreResolved Question: Where should we go?!?!?
Its almost summer time, and my family is discussing what we should do. We have always been out of the country, cruise,Mexico,Aruba,in past years. I REALLY wanted to travel around the USA because I have became very interested in the history. They said I couldn't handle long airplane rides, more than 7 hours, so that's it. Any ideas that we all can agree on? Thanks a whole lot!!! moreResolved Question: Tell me as to why I should visit the Dominican Republic?
I have a neighbor who their son is 14 and is from the DR and he goes back every year to visit his family during the summer. He insists that I should go there to visit. Honestly, I never heard of the DR being a tourist attraction. I mean I know there are casinos, beaches, but you really never hear much on that place. You hear more on certain islands like Aruba, Bahamas, St. Thomas etc. Why is that, and can you tell me as to why we should go visit that place? We usually take cruises once a year and do a lot of traveling throughout the US, but never considered DR. moreResolved Question: Should we book a cruise or stay on an island in the Caribbean?
I've been to Jamaica and Aruba. I am interested in St. Lucia and Barbados. I am interested in Antigua but think it might be out of our price range. This is for my husband and me. We are in our 30s. What do you recommend? We don't want to spend more than $3,000.We both like to snorkel and snuba. I like soft sand - the kind you don't have to wear sandals. Jamaica has rough sand, at least where I stayed.Mexico is out. I don't want to go somewhere that I have to be concerned about the water.Good to know. Thank you. I've been doing research online - next step is to meet with a travel agent. I prefer to walk or ride a bike. I don't really want to rent a car. Want to do things and relax. Need a vacation badly. moreResolved Question: Royal Carribiean Cruise SHip? PIRATES?

I am going on a cruise that stops in Aruba. I would like to visit either Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, or Baby Beach. Currently, I am not planning on paying for a "shore excursion" as I only need transportation to/from the beach. Do you know if I can find a taxi coming back from any of these beaches or will I need to pre-book a return? Does one of these beaches have a better chance of finding transportation than the others? moreResolved Question: Does it sound like my business partner is taking advantage of me?
Some of you know that my wife* and I run the Abandoned Squirrel Society. (A.S.S.)- a non profit shelter for displaced or low impact hit and run accident survivors. Since the stimulus package awarded us a great deal of money to carry on this great institution, we decided to take on a local businessman to help with the day to day operations. My wife* and I went on a goodwill search looking for more helpless animals. We traveled to Bermuda, Key West, the Cayman Islands, Aruba and many other tropical islands in this gut wrenching search. I am sorry to say, we were not able to return with them. Unbeknownst to us, Carnival Cruise lines has a rule about bringing animals on board. But back to my original problem. Our partner, Lil' Donng ,runs a chinese eatery in town. Lately, his business has tripled in size. Word on the street is that his new menu features some of the most exotic dishes ever created. I was very happy for him, until I recently visited the shelter and found only 2-3 dozen squirrels. Normally at this time , there are hundreds in the shelter waiting for spring release. Even more disturbing was the fact he traded our Tahoe in for a Mini Cooper. I was like " Donng, Donng, where is my automobile?" He stated that we no longer needed the bigger truck since the animals were shipped directly to the restaurant. So my question to you, is 30% a big enough cut on the restaurants profits? My wife* says at least 40%.Hattie OJ- We'll see what we can do about beaver*. Any suggestions?thanks i heard good things about barbados i will check that out moreResolved Question: Honeymoon options - help me pick!?
My fiance and I are tying the know on June 20th. I will only have about a week of vacation time off work for the honeymoon itself. We have discussed waiting until June 29th to take our honeymoon. Then we would only be gone until July 3rd and we wouldnt pay the high prices for Independance Day travel plus we could spend a few days at home by ourselves afterwards. However, leaving on June 21st isnt out of the question either. Here are several vacations that we both would like to take: Las Vegas (Bellagio) 3 Day Norweigan cruise (balcony room) to Nassau, Bahams Caribbean Vacation (Puerto Rico, or some place like that. Aruba seems to be very pricy) Beach (Myrtle Beach, Clearwater FL, or some place similar) Italy (Amalfi Coast is beautiful. Florence or Venice, either) Orlando (not disney. It would be Universal, discovery cove, seaworld, etc.) Now you can either rank your list, or just name your #1 pick. Please dont give other suggestions (unless theyre flippin awesome and youve experienced them 1st hand) and dont try manipulate me into Disney World...Ive been many ...many many....too many times and my fiance used to work there. lol Thanks guys!oops! I forgot to also mention to please give your date preference. Immediately after the wedding? Or a week later? And why? (i.e. "I went a week later and it gave me time to rest." or... Caribbean Cruise Help? Im going on a Caribbean cruise, but Im not sure which one to chose. In order to go to the southern Caribbean, you have to take at least a 7 day cruise and I am only taking a 5, so it will have to be western or eastern. PS I do not want anything in the Bahamas. Ive been there..something different please =) I like adventure and doing things. Hiking Scuba diving rock climbing I dont want to go to an island thats all shopping or all tourist shops I want to go somewhere where you can get involved and really do stuff. I want an interesting experience where you go to that island just to experience a certain adventure. Can anyone who has been on one of these before tell me which islands are the best to go to? Would you rather go to the western or eastern? Are the Cayman Islands good? Is Ocho Rios Jamaica better? What about Cozumel Mexico? Which ship did you take and which one would be the best to take? The Smooth Sailing Travel Agency just finished booking cruises for the Greens and three other couples. Each couple plans to sail on a different vessel (including the Blue Crown) for a different number of days (7, 10, 12, or 14). Each cruise ship will set sail for a different first port of call (one will had for St. Lucia). From the following information, match each couple with their ship, the length in days of their cruise, and their first port of call. 1. The Zwahlens will not be taking the longest cruise (which will not be aboard the Sea Princess). 2. The four couples are the Rifkins (who will not be on the Viking queen), the couple taking the 14-day cruise, the couple booked on the Ocean Jewel, and the couple whose first stop will be Jamaica. 3. The Blancs' cruise is longer than that of the Viking Queen but shorter than the Aruba cruise. 4. The cruise to Barbados will be shorter than the one to Jamaica. moreResolved Question: Logic Problem HELP!!!!?

My fiancee and I are having trouble deciding whether to go on a cruise leaving from Galveston, TX and stopping at Montego Bay, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel, Mexico for seven nights, or if we should just pick a destination spot and go there for the whole time. We live in Dallas and we would have to factor in driving down to Galveston if we were to decide on the cruise. My fiancee and I have never been on a cruise and do not know what to expect really. We're wanting some place tropical and were thinking maybe aruba or something along those lines if we picked one spot. Any suggestions/concerns/experiences? The price difference between the two is really not a factor as my parents are picking up the tab. Thanks in advance!I guess I should have clarified that it's for our honeymoon! Sorry! moreResolved Question: Which souvenirs can I bring back?

The itinerary is... Aruba (day at sea) Bonaire Caracas Grenada St Lucia Tobago Barbados We dock at each island at around 8am each morning and the boat leaves at roughly 6pm each evening.
