Voting Question: Why aren't people boycotting these companies.?

TOM JOYNER'S MORNING SHOW Tom Joyner wants this information to reach his listeners.. You have probably heard of 'NUD' as a result of the Tom Joyner morning show related to Comp USA . NUD (Non Urban Dictate) is the acronym for a very subtle and little-known marketing term specifically directed toward people of color. 'Non Urban Dictate' These three words essentially mean that a company is not interested in the Black consumer. A NUD label means that a company does not want their marketing and advertising materials placed in media that claim an urban audience (black folks) as their main target. There are legitimate reasons for companies not using urban radio. It may be that Blacks don't index high in certain categories or that a company's strategy is to market to the Black consumer down the road after they have established a strong position in their primary target. But, NUD usually means that a company is not interested in the Black consumer. Companies evade discrimination liability by embracing it as theory rather than policy. As a service to Black consumers, the Urban Institute will list all companies that have a NUD policy. Armed with this information, we feel that Black consumers will be able to make informed buying decisions. Here's a list of Companies with NUD policies: 1. Starbucks 2. Jos. A Bank 3. Comp USA 4. Weight Watchers 5. Keebler 6. Life Savers 7. Continental Airlines 8. Northwest Airlines 9. America West Airlines 10.. HBO - Apollo Series 11. Paternal Importers 12 Calico Corners 13. OMScot 14. Pepperidge Farms 15. Ethan Allen 16. Busy Body Fitness 17. Mondovi Wines 18. Builders Square 19. Pottery Barn 20.. Lexus 21. Aruba Tourism 22. Ciba Vision 23. Kindercare 24. Grady Restaurant 25. Resolved Question: Best Caribbean island vacation?

My wife and I have been to Aruba, Jamaica, Cancun, and Costa Rica. We are trying to decide between trying something new or going back to Aruba. We are currently looking into St. Martin mostly, but will consider alternate suggestions. The things we love about Aruba: Direct, nonstop flights from DC; it's relatively safe - you don't see guys walking around with machine guns patrolling the borders of your hotel/compound; Awesome restaurants and food; beautiful beaches and snorkeling; excellent bus system-cheap and easy so you don't need a rental car; plus casinos and nightlife. We are looking at St.Martin because they also have direct flights from DC, but we will consider other destinations too. Does anyone have an opinion on where we should go?Yes, we've been to the Mediterranean and would love to go back but airfare right now is a bit outrageous. Mallorca is our dream retirement destination! more

Resolved Question: Which Tropical Vacation Should We Take?

My husband and I are planning a vacation over memorial day and are wondering whether we should go to Nassau, Aruba, or Grand Cayman. Give us your input, especially if you've been there! Resolved Question: What did you like in Aruba?

My wife and I are headed to Aruba on one last vacation before our baby is born. She is 24 weeks pregnant(yes we have permission from her Doctor) and we mainly want to relax. I was hoping someone out there might have a good recommendation on anything in Aruba. If you've been to Aruba and enjoyed anything let me know. Weather its an activity, restaurant, favorites beach, favorite taxi service, favorite shopping center, favorite hotel, favorite casino.Anything at all is good, just make sure that you can include as much info as possible so that we'll be able to locate whatever it is your suggesting, and maybe some of the reasons wh you liked it. Thank you very much for reading and thank you even more for replying. more

Resolved Question: Daughter's lack of dates worrying me?

I'm going to try and keep it short. I'm not sure if I am overreacting which I am told I usually do, or my daughter is giving me a reason. She is 16yo and to date she has not brought home a boyfriend and she's giving off a vibe that raises a keen sense in me she may be lesbian and I wouldn't know what to do. All of her best friends are boys and I have known them ever since they were six, and they all are very nice. I wish my older daughters (19,20 yo) brought home the same; but never did. She claims they are all her friends and would never be in a relationship with any of them because it would be weird. However there has been about a dozen different girls coming to my house over the past year that I would see a couple of times and then never again and she would claim they were friends too. My older daughters at the table would go over their issues with their boyfriends, whom bother me sometimes, but when they tease my youngest she would claim she has no time between basketball, drama club, and work to be dating... like she's always putting off the subject. Nominally I wouldn't force my daughters to date because I don't know what is out there nowadays; but she shows no interest or anything. The big thing though making me crazy is that I catch her sneaking glances. Whether at the mall or in a restaurant together, and even on vacation recently to Aruba, I notice she looks at girls sometimes as they pass and it irks me. I can't talk to her because she favors my husband and we rarely ever spoke. I'm thinking about searching her room but I'll never hear the end of it if I find something but I would be so upset because she is an adorable, energetic, and smart girl and I wouldn't want something to put a big label over her or a target. Not to mention I would find it also quite disgusting and I wouldn't know what to do. more

Resolved Question: For richer or poorer...?

If you were to meet someone through a friend or online or a blind date and that person happens to be a brad pitt lookalike or johnny depp and a self employed millionaire business man. That person is self made. That person also does a lot of traveling for business trips means you won't spend a lot of time together, at least probably not as much as you'd like. The millionaire buys you what you want. That person also is very into themselves, very arrogant and keeps talking about their own sucess. You know the rich person is with you because he needs to tell people he has someone instead of saying he's single. You, if you stay with this millionaire you get to live the millionaire lifestyle, you know the trips to Aruba or whevever you want, the best restaurants, the most expensive cars, the best houses, the best of everything. Lets say you marry the person, you guys get a prenuptual agreement and you still are with him only for money and never really love him. Would you take the chances of having all that and being with that millionaire even though you don't love that person? So pretty much which is more important the luxurious lifestyle (money) or love with another person? more

Resolved Question: Does it sound like my business partner is taking advantage of me?

Some of you know that my wife* and I run the Abandoned Squirrel Society. (A.S.S.)- a non profit shelter for displaced or low impact hit and run accident survivors. Since the stimulus package awarded us a great deal of money to carry on this great institution, we decided to take on a local businessman to help with the day to day operations. My wife* and I went on a goodwill search looking for more helpless animals. We traveled to Bermuda, Key West, the Cayman Islands, Aruba and many other tropical islands in this gut wrenching search. I am sorry to say, we were not able to return with them. Unbeknownst to us, Carnival Cruise lines has a rule about bringing animals on board. But back to my original problem. Our partner, Lil' Donng ,runs a chinese eatery in town. Lately, his business has tripled in size. Word on the street is that his new menu features some of the most exotic dishes ever created. I was very happy for him, until I recently visited the shelter and found only 2-3 dozen squirrels. Normally at this time , there are hundreds in the shelter waiting for spring release. Even more disturbing was the fact he traded our Tahoe in for a Mini Cooper. I was like " Donng, Donng, where is my automobile?" He stated that we no longer needed the bigger truck since the animals were shipped directly to the restaurant. So my question to you, is 30% a big enough cut on the restaurants profits? My wife* says at least 40%.Hattie OJ- We'll see what we can do about beaver*. There is always the risk of them being mean and rabid.Rey- blue with white accent stripes more

My husband and I are heading to Aruba in late May and have narrowed it down to 2 hotels. One is All Inclusive (Occidental) and one is not (Marriott). Resolved Question: Hyatt Regency Aruba October help!

We're going on our mini-honeymoon in Oct. We've booked flights to Aruba for 10/9-10/14/08. But can not decide on the Hyatt or the all-inclusive Occidental. We read reviews about the food at the Occidental wasn't all that great. And if I'm paying $2300 (plus $400 for a premium honeymoon package) I would like to have FANTASTIC food. As for the Hyatt, they have a promotion going on for $1800 w/ free daily breakfast. I'm thinking for $900, we can probably just find places to eat ourselves. But we won't be getting the "premium honeymoon package" which includes all the gifts, pictures, romantic dinner, etc. We're not big drinkers but we wouldn't want to pay too much for soda/water/juice during the day at the beach. How much do you think it'll cost for 2 people, 5 days, 2 meals a day (lunch & dinner, since Hyatt includes free breakfast)? So many reviews say we'll miss out on Aruba if we have all inclusive, there's so many great restaurants out there. Please help! I read all my reviews from tripadvisor and the food at the Occidental is 50/50. I booked my flights separate because I have a free flight with the airline so I'm definitely not going with a package deal here. What I really like to know is if food would cost me $900 for 6days/5nights w/ drinks (all virgin). We are not alcohol drinkers. Thank you so much for all your inputs! more

Resolved Question: Where should we stay in Aruba with a toddler?

We loved Aruba when we went for our honeymoon and now we would like to return with our 3-year-old. He is generally content and well-behaved, but I would like to stay somewhere fairly upscale yet child-friendly. A place with a kiddie-pool that has some small slides, nicely appointed rooms with good linens and marble baths, great restaurants that are also kid-friendly but don't dumb down the food... Resolved Question: Luxury Hotel in Aruba in October..?

Hi everyone, I need help choosing a hotel in Aruba. My brother is getting married there in October. He and his fiancé have been there and are having their wedding at the Divi Aruba. I have never been there – so I am torn as to where to stay. He likes the more Americanized atmosphere – where I like more authentic eateries and what have you. So he is fine doing an all-inclusive at the resort and eating the bad resort food…where I would opt for more traditional, whole in the wall places over that any day of the week…hope that makes sense?? I’m not a snob – I can just appreciate authentic food more than him. So I am trying to find a luxury hotel in Aruba – not all-inclusive. Any suggestions? BTW – I’m 30 and my boyfriend is 42. He is leaving the planning up to me since it is my brother’s wedding. Help!! Any suggestions are welcomed… (and restaurant suggestions too) Thanks!Or what hotel is better - Hyatt or Renaissance Aruba? more

I'm in the beginning stages of planning a destination wedding in the Caribbean. My finance and are I baffled as to which island would be the best for such an occasion. Resolved Question: Honeymoon advice??

I'm planning a honeymoon probably for next summer. We are kind of on a budget so we can't travel to Europe or Asia. I'm thinking somewhere in Mexico, Bahamas, Aruba, Virgin Islands, etc... anything tropical! I love to lay on the beach, but only for one or two days, so there would need to be plenty of other activities such as snorkeling, parasailing, horseback riding, restaurants, bars, etc. Also, somewhere with no hurricanes and good weather in June/July. Any reccommendations? more
