Resolved Question: Here are my criteria: What branch is for me? ..and other misc. questions about the military?
I am a freshman in college but I want to get into the military for 2 years and be done. ( I might do 4 if I really like it) These are my reason: To serve my country GI Bill Able to get college credits and take classes as you serve Health, Dental Insurance for life Military Discount Job Preference after Duty TRAVEL!!! I do NOT want to kill anyone, or be responsible for a death, as it is super against my religion. Oh and I'm not trying to die either. So, I plan on getting a good score on the ASVAB, and working in the IT field. I don't want to be in infantry. Here are my questions: 1- Which branch will let me travel and see new cultures the most? 2- If I just serve for only 2 years, will I get the above benefits? 3- How long do you have to be in the military before considered a veteran? 4- Is it true that I may be called up for duty even when I have completed my 2 years? If so, when will I truly be done? 5- Which branch is least discriminatory towards Muslims? 6- What is life like for Muslims like me in the Armed Forces, and will I be able to perform my religious duties (pray 5X/day, etc)? 7- Is it true that you get 1 free cosmetic surgery ( such as lasik, etc.) ? I don't really care about promotions, rank, or getting into a military career. Feel free to correct any assumptions that I have made above.I tried to do as much research as I could before I got bored. I'm leaning towards Airforce or Navy, but everything is still in the air. If you could tell me your experiences with one of them, I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot for any input you can give me.Basically I want to do anything computer related in the IT Field Examples- IT/Network Specialist, Computer Systems Specialist, Software Developer, Computer Systems Operator, etc.Yea.. Continental matches Delta baggage fee increase CNN) -- Continental Airlines has matched Delta Air Lines' recent checked-luggage fee increase, a Continental spokeswoman says. Delta and Continental passengers paying online for checked bags will be charged $23 for the first bag and $32 for the second. Delta's online fees are rising by $8 for the first checked bag and $7 for the second. Continental's fees are rising by $5 for each bag. The new Delta rates start Tuesday and apply to tickets purchased on or after January 5. Passengers who bought tickets before that date will pay the old rates, Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott said. Continental matched Delta's updated fees late last week, spokeswoman Mary Clark said. The increase on Continental applies to passengers who purchased tickets on or after January 9 for travel on or after January 16. Those checking in bags at the airport will shell out even more: $25 for the first bag, $35 for the second on both airlines. Some passengers -- such as first-class fliers, some frequent fliers and military personnel on deployment -- are exempt from most checked-luggage fees. Delta and Continental luggage fees now are among the highest in the industry. US Airways also charges $25 for the first checked bag and $35 for the second bag when checked in at the airport. Online, the airline charges $20 and $30 for the first and second bags. United Airlines charges $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag at the airport, and $15 and $25 online for the first and second bags, respectively. American Airlines charges $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag, both online and at the airport. Most major air carriers started adding checked-bag fees in 2008. The airlines reported collecting nearly $740 million in baggage fees in the third quarter of 2009, according to U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. On discount carrier Southwest Airlines, the first and second checked bags are free. JetBlue offers a free first checked bag and charges $30 for the second. moreResolved Question: What's a job that gives air travel discounts without working at the actual airport?

Guess the "travel" time from JFK (New York) to Perth, Australia if you book it the long route? (answer below)... My wife Dot and I are starting a Home Travel Agency. We are joining a very large outfit that deals with folks like us who want a home business. I used to work for TWA (Trans World Airlines) 25 years. Before they were sold to American. My job was International reservations for flights, tours, and cars. One day I was playing around with the computer and (at the time) found 25 different airfares between New York City and Los Angeles. Reason being a person can naturally fly non-stop or change flights thru many-many different cities (called "connecting" flights). You can also combine 2 different discount fares and fly "back to back" (Let's use a make believe fare for an example) Let's say a normal coach ticket New York to Los Angeles is $500. But, if we combine a New York "discount" $150 route to St. Louis, Mo. (change our own bag's or better yet have a small carry on bag) and pick up a $200 St. Louis to Los Angeles trip. Yea-yea I know some of you are saying, "Hey, blah-blah-blah !!!" OKAY GANG how about the person who flys "EVERYWEEK" ??? Or every 2 weeks? Let's say Mr. Fly-every-week work's that job for 20 years ? Hey kid's... NOW WE'ER TALKING $156,000 OF OUR PRETEND MONEY GOING DOWN THE DRAIN !!!!! All of you can call the airlines and get real money if you want. My point is, I just want to show you folks how to save money. Yes, sometimes fares are around for a short period of time. One time TWA had a $33 special St. Louis to Chicago one way for about a month. Now I'm not supposed to ask for your business here in Yahoo Answers... BUT... I can help a "new" friend with travel information if he or she has an up and coming trip they need help with. My e-mail address is attached to this... what ever it is. All I need is your dates of travel to & from and a list of towns your going to with how much time at each stop. I figure if I can help make your trip a bit better thats half the game won. Your going to find as you call around to different airlines and travel agents (say maybe 10 or 15 or so) your going to feel like you just dug a hole 30' x 50' and 20' deep in your back yard. Some of those agent's can really mess up your head !!!! (Phew-phew !!) >>>> The answer to the question on top is... 39 hours 55 minutes ! As I used to say (almost 95+ times a day) "Thank You for calling TWA, my name is Tom" moreResolved Question: how can i travel to Asia/Europe cheapest way possible. Boat or plane. Mailing services and/or Work on a boat?
I'm looking to travel by boat so I can have the experience that doesn't have to be long like a cruise but shorter than a flight. I've heard of the air courier services where you sign for a package when you land and in exchange you get a really cheap ticket or free travel. Is there anything like this for ship travel? Are there any websites to look at or where to obtain more info. Is it possible to work on the ship at all in exchange for a free ride or discounted one? Is there a website or forum that lists people with boats/ships willing to except passengers either for work or reduced fare or just because they are going this direction and you can board? Anything would be great. Thanks. moreResolved Question: If you pay the discounted fare for an infant, do you get a seat for them?
I already asked this in the air travel section, but didn't gt any answers... I bought tickets for me and my 3-month-old daughter to fly to Europe. The price of her ticket was 10% of mine. Does that mean she gets a seat and I can use it for her car seat, or did I pay extra just to be able to hold her on my lap? It's a Polish airline - LOT. And I know, I should just call them... tried once, but their automated system sucks. moreResolved Question: Road Trip CRAZINESS. PLEASE HELP?
My friends and I are planning a road trip through California next summer. We're having an issue however of where we will be staying each night. My one friend is super cheap and wants to camp every night and constantly gets agitated by the fact that we would be staying in hotels (I planned a 7 night trip in which 4 nights would be camping and 3 nights in motels). She insists that we use her huge van (Ford '77) that she says runs better than any new car --in other words, we shouldnt rent a car because its too expensive (her van has no air conditioning and no stereo--were traveling in June). She says shes never booked a motel in advance (didnt realize that you sort of have to do this) and thinks Im lying when I say you can't have more than 4 people in a motel room (as in the extra fees apply). In terms of camping as well, she wants the cheapest of the cheap (buying only rice and beans and cereal in bulk--really roughing it) and calls us pathetic when we say we aren't accustomed to camping so rigorously. Is there any way we can reach a middle ground? I like to camp, and I dont mind tenting for 2 or 3 nights, but if Im going to be touring san Francisco, I'd really like to have a shower before hand Heres where we will be each night 1. Sacramento (found a place she actually might be okay with since its a BandB and itll take all 6 of us for 100$) 2. Tahoe (I found a nice middle ground campsite, but she didnt like that it was 36 a night) 3. Tahoe again same place 4. A hotel in the san fran area (san rafael, novato, etc--im having issues finding it cheap) 5. Camping in Big Sur OR Hotel (everyone wants a hotel but I said if we cant do the hotel we should camp) 6. Another night camping in Big Sur 7. Hotel in Solvang Is there anyway to get good discounts on hotels (ive been to hotels.com) or to get deals on stuff? I want this road trip to be fun for everyone, while also maybe taking some people out of their comfort zones (make people rough it a bit, or make my other friend loosen up and pay another $20 for a nice bed!) Any suggestions with my dilemma? moreResolved Question: what websites flight is more cheaper to buy airfare international, also i need coupon code help please urgent!?

I was planning a trip to india since Jan , for travelling in july, since i knew that would be busy season i booked my ticket using my miles in feb and then paid a travel agency called flyhub.com based in san francisco to get another ticket for my 10 yr old son for the same date and flight. They charged me on my amex and confirmed my request and told me i would get the same flight i requested, guess what, they kept making me run around the bushes for 4 months and finally the manager completely stopped communication, no replies and no answer to my calls, since now only 20 days were left to my departure(July 1st), completely depresssed and psychologically broken i went ahead and purchased a new ticket from the airlines, but regretfully they had no seats available on the same flight so i had to buy a tickets for him a week before my departure.now he will travel alone, and apart from paying additional for a ticket, that i had already paid for, i also had to incur abour $500 additional for expedited passport and visa service,(listen to this ,the manager of the agency knew my son needed to renew his passport)and also i had to purchase an additional domestic ticket for him for double the regular discounted price, since his trip was preponed.(I ARRIVE IN MUMBAI AND FLY TO MY FINAL DESTINATION FROM THERE).The airline that i am flying(air france) does not go to my final destination,Kolkata. I am not a air plane person. I need help in figuring out a affordable route to travel to Orlando, Florida. Thank youBuses that can take you from Chicago, Illinois to Orlando, Florida. Also, I would like to know about special offers and promotional codes. It is most appreciated. moreResolved Question: What are the best "Bang for the buck" summer destinations?
We are from the west coast, with a family of 4. We are looking for foreign destinations in the late June/early July time frame. Considerations include air fair, exchange rate, weather, cultural heritage (suitable for kids 10-12 old). Would be interested in details such as air lines offering discount deals, or travel sites offering package deals. Thanks, moreResolved Question: Are air fares going up in April?
I am planning to travel from Sydney to London at Christmas. New air fares are due out in April. I am concerned that there may be a significant price increase because of the GFC (less people travelling/flights cancelled those that are left are more expensive to run). On the other hand I have heard that there are new discount airlines entering this market which would bring the price down. I would appreciate it if someone with some inside knowledge on this could let me know if it would be safer to book now or not. Thank you. moreResolved Question: Cheapest Airfare from Phoenix, AZ to Ft. Walton Beach, FL?
My dates are flexible - I'm looking to fly sometime between now and May--staying for two to five days--and would like to spend "ideally" between $200-$250 TOTAL. If anyone knows a place I can sign up and get discounts, i.e. groups/conventions/clubs that are offering discounts, please let me know! My boyfriend--whom I'm visiting--is in the Air Force, so I'm not certain if that makes a difference or not. ...Maybe coupon codes...? I'm willing to pay for this information. As of right now, I'm looking at $330-$380 round trip TOTAL price, and this is certainly too high. By the way, I've checked virtually ALL the travel sites, including but not limited to; Orbitz, Travelocity, Kayak, Cheap O Air, Priceline, Cheap Tickets, etc.--as well as virtually ALL of the airlines. So, please do not bother to list these as the options. Thank you! moreResolved Question: Is this airfare discount website a scam or fraud?
I'm looking for deep discount airfares. I Came across this website a few days ago. myairfaresecrets.com I Did some searching to see if it's bogus, and can't find much that's current. I noticed some typos in the site, and it says that the "special price" will expire soon, but it seems to have been at the special price since 2007. The LARGE amount of information on the site seems like a bunch of hype. The wild promises (free air travel/travel anywhere for $7) make me think .... SCAM! I'm wondering if anyone has actually bought and used this information to receive deep discounts or free air travel? Is it just an elaborate scam to grab your $25 bucks? moreResolved Question: Anyone that can share valid promo code for Allegiant Air?

It is still up in the air how the details of my trip are going to work out. My preferred departure dates are June9th-June30th I found an open-jaw flight from Boston-Venice, then Warsaw-Boston for $820 which i consider pretty decent My tentative plan is venice-prague-cesky krumlov-krakow (with a side trip to Auschwitz) -Warsaw I've been reading various backpacking books and tons of website articles/ blogs that are seem to contradict each other on daily costs. I already know that my train travel is going to cost me $300 and the plane is going to be $820 but how much should I plan on spending on daily costs? (hostel, food, museums, going out to bars/clubs) PS- I'm 18, and if you could think of any good youth discount cards I would appreciate that as well. moreResolved Question: Ryanair - cash-strapped or market clever?
Ryanair has just announced proposals to charge for using the onboard lavatory. This comes after a long line of former proposals of equal headscratching, that we as "valued" air travellers have come to take for granted (such as in-flight magazine, price-incorporated meals, free headsets, baggage allowance etc.) Now is it me or are they being very clever - yeah it initially causes public backlash but ultimately they have a point! You use their facilities and they have to fund its regular cleansing, the fluids needed to maintain it (toilet wash, soap), toilet roll and paper towels. Imagine how many flights they make a day using all their fleet of aircraft, and you can begin to envisage the overheads. If it can save 10's of thousands of £ on their running costs, these can be reinvested to maintain the quality of service and the continued value of cheaper airline travel. In my opinion, if this does not happen soon then gone will be the days of any discount airline! I have shared mine - so what are your opinions?I forgot to add the witty line of "spending a penny"! moreResolved Question: are there any secrets to get discounts on travel to mexico? Looking for a few dry, pleasant June/July destinations linked by a discount airline from Dubai I am spending the Spring in Iran, and in June I am changing flights in Dubai to somewhere dry, and pleasant serviced by one of the discount airlines operating in the UAE. My research shows Air Arabia flies to Almaty, Kazakhstan (near beautiful Kyrgyzstan) Lebanon Nepal All three of these destinations appeal to me but Nepal's rainy monsoon season begins in June, and I don't want to be there when it's raining. Lebanon, and Kazakhstan have the nicest weather during summer, but I think Canadians need a visa to go to Kazakhstan, like a real visa (pre-arranged at the Kazakh embassy either in Tehran, or Dubai). Also, it sounds difficult to arrange, and really expensive. Does anyone know the cost of 1 month tourist visa for Canadians going to Kazakhstan? I am only interested in Almaty, and then I want to cross the border to Kyrgyz, then Uzbek, and Tajik. I'd like to do a little circle, and end up back in Almaty again, only because Air Arabia flies from there. I could also be interested in a land crossing entering Tibet, but I don't know if that's possible for foreigners. Regarding a Kazakh visa, perhaps a 3 day transit visa is enough? See Almaty, and then hop the border to Bishkek? Air India Express flies Dubai to Amritsar, India, and I know India is HOT in June, but if I start in Amritsar, and head NORTH to Kashmir, maybe there is an international border/crossing (along with land transport) to Tibet? Of Course, then I need a Chinese visa/permit, and where to get that in Amritsar, or Kashmir? If I go to India, I prefer to go high in altitude because it is June, and I don't want to be at sea level, especially in a big city like Mumbai or Dehli. I just hope Northwestern India is relatively dry in June. Ok so Air Arabia, or Air India Express, and there are a couple other airlines flying to really HOT places like Phillipines, but since it's June, I didn't include any tropical destinations. So, please let me know which destination you think is best for June, and then from there, into the Summer. Lebanon, Almaty, Kazakhstan, or Nepal (rainy?) on AA or Northwestern India on AIA I also have the option of entering Turkmenistan, or Armenia by road after Iran (I think June could be a good time in either place), but Turkmenistan doesn't seem to have any Couchsurfers, which is how I travel. No hotels, ever. Let me know your thoughts about June. moreResolved Question: This is an Economy question about changes in the airline industry.?
Turmoil in the Airline Industry Even before the September 11 terrorist attacks, the major airlines were flying into stiff head winds. Slim to nonexistent profits, bankruptcies and buckets of red ink, poor service, late arrivals, overexpansion, frequent air-traffic control breakdowns, some of the worst labor-management relations in business, high fuel costs, a full-blown economic downturn, and the collapse of business travel had cast this industry into one of the worst periods in aviation history. Road Warriors Get Smart For years, the major airlines had succeeded in getting business travelers (road warriors) to pay premium fares by pampering them with special business-class seats and other perks. Business travel was their lifeblood. Sales of unrestricted fares and last-minute tickets generated about two to three times as much as economy fares and contributed about 70 percent of a major airline?s revenue. But with corporate profits hitting the skids in late 2000, companies put the brakes on travel spending. The corporate exodus hit the major airlines hard. Resourceful business travelers used substitute products such as videoconferencing or other transportation modes ? even if it meant putting up with inconveniences ? to reduce travel expenses. Some turned to the Internet to find cheaper airfares. Others moved their business downstream to discount airlines such as Southwest and Jet Blue. Major airlines tried to raise round-trip leisure tickets to make up for their lost business revenues, but fierce competition from discounters prevented them from doing so. Air Travel is ?Wal-Marted? Just as Wal-Mart did in retailing, the discounters of the air such as Southwest and Jet Blue are squeezing the major airlines from all ends. Low-cost carriers now account for nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic air capacity, up from 6 percent in the early 1990?s. They can afford to sell travel tickets for less because they have many cost advantages over full-service rivals. To begin with, they have younger fleets, which require less maintenance, and younger labor forces that aren?t tied to complicated, inefficient labor contracts. Moreover, low-fare carriers typically fly one airplane model, thus minimizing maintenance, operating, and training costs. By contrast, big carriers typically fly six or seven types of aircraft. And unlike the big guys, the discount airlines don?t operate expensive hub-and-spoke systems. Caught Between a Hub and a Hard Place Using a hub-and-spoke route system, major airlines scoop up traffic from smaller cities (the spokes) and funnel it through a few gathering points (the hub). This practice allows airlines to serve small markets and offer passengers more destinations and more frequent flights. But is also presents a logistical nightmare. It forces major airlines to schedule lots of flights to arrive and depart within narrow windows of time in order to minimize passenger layover times. This means that ground crews, such as gate attendants and baggage handlers, often sit idle between waves of connecting flights. By Contrast, point-to-point carriers, such as Southwest and Jet Blue, schedule flights as if passengers are moving to their final destinations. Instead of having planes and crews sit around and wait for passengers, point-to-point carriers maintain fast-paced schedules, which means minimal downtime for aircraft and fewer personnel on the ground. Turbulent Skies for the Bid Carriers Today, one in four tickets sold is on a discount airline. As pressure from low-fare carriers mounts, major airlines are reevaluating every aspect of their operations. The major carriers are undergoing radical change just to stay in business. They are experimenting with changes in costs, capacity, pricing, and product features in ways they haven?t seriously contemplated since the industry was deregulated in 1978. They are stripping billions of dollars from their operations by revamping their hub system, cutting jobs, eliminating flights, ending food service, and removing first-class seats, and by simplifying their fleets to cut training and maintenance costs, Some are replacing agents with self-service kiosks. Others are wrangling concessions from unions for huge pay cuts to reduce labor costs ? a major differentiating factor when you consider that in 2002 a United Airlines captain earned $9,000 to $11,000 more a month than a Jet Blue captain. Still others, such as U.S. Airways and United Airlines have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to reorganize their outstanding debt and lower their operating costs. In spite of their efforts, questions loom as to whether all the major airlines can survive. Even with huge cost cuts, all airlines remain susceptible to possible terrorist attacks, economic turns, or employee unrest. As experts claim that this is just the beginning of an industry-wide shakedown. After all, no airline can fly forever losing billions of dollars. Critical Thinking Questions 1. What s1. What supply and demand factors have changed the equilibrium point for airline tickets? 2. How has information technology affected the airline industry? 3. How are complimentary products affected by problems in the airline industry? 4. I going to travel to Europe this December and am unsure as to the best time to buy tickets. I am flying from Washington, DC to Luxembourg, Luxembourg to London, and London back to Washington, DC. I looked into tickets on discount sites and the entire trip is around $1100 but the times and airports are random. I then looking into Air France and the times were amazing but the flight bumps up to $1550. I am eager to buy my plane tickets but I wasn't too sure if it was too early. I think I'd die if I spent $1500 and a few weeks later Air France jumps down to $1000. Any help would be appreciated!! moreResolved Question: air travel question?

I am traveling to NJ from GA for a family reunion. I need to be in NJ no later than Thursday, July 31. I was going to book my flight today (July 16) because I was told that most airlines require a two week advance booking for the best fares, also I have found that if you travel on Wedsnesdays the fares are cheaper. However, someone told me that most airlines have sales on Thursdays. However, that would only give me a 13 day advance booking. I have also been told that some airlines now only require a 7 to 10 day advance booking for the best fares. I'm getting a little confused with so much information. Also, could you supply some good web sites to find discount airfares. So far, cheapo-air seems to be the best one. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Where can I find promotional codes for U.S. airlines that will offer discounts on air fares?

I'm looking to utilize some air miles I have earned and noticed that if I travel to Europe in late February I can get a discount. I would be traveling to London, Dublin, and Amsterdam. Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: How can I travel around Europe inexpensively?

Eurail, discount airlines (Ryan Air, EasyJet, Sterling, etc), renting a car...? My budget is around $250 (USD) per person, round trip (about 160 Euro). Any suggestions, experiences, or tips would be appreciated.$250 = my transportation budget, not my complete budget. moreResolved Question: Anyone work for US Air?
