Resolved Question: Discouraging coprophagous?

My guy is a 5y/o mutt that I've had for 4 years, he used to "play" with his poop throwing it up in the air in an attempt to get the other dogs to go after him, he didn't eat the poop. I solved this issue with canned pineapple. Since we moved to Denver, he discovered the joys of poopcicles and goose poop. As far as I know, goose poop can contain Giardia but I haven't found any other nasty bugs that it contains, does anyone know of any other specific harmful bacteria or parasites that Canadian Geese might harbor? Has anyone had any success in deterring compulsive eating of wild animal poop? Our entire 1 mile a day walk is coated in goose poop... My dogs eat Taste of the Wild, I do not think it is a lacking of nutrients since they eat a high quality food, it appears to be more of a game. I have a lifetime supply of Drontrol Plus, should I only administer it if he comes down with a case of Giardia or as a possible preventative before any diarrhea sets in. He has not had any ill effect since migration started and since he discover the pleasures of eating goose poop; I'm hoping to keep it that way... Please only answer if you have had experience with coprophagous or this medication, I would rather get no answers than 10 "ewwwwww" answers. Resolved Question: Should we get a puppy even though we have a older Golden Retriever?

He's 10 years old but will be 10 and a half when we would get the puppy (this spring.) He's everything to us and we really want to make him happy. How active he still is: He is still very hyper for a 10 year old dog. He runs around a lot in the house and in our large backyard. (Just not now because of the snow.) At least once a day he starts running around the house, carrying around his kong high in the air and shaking his head. (And i've never seen a dog run faster to the dinner bowl.) But that's for some of the day. the rest of the day he just wants to sleep. Personality around other dogs: Whenever we see another dog he gets super excited. Wiggling, pulling on the lead (and when in the house he stares out the window. He then gets too excited and starts running doing his kong thing.) But that's only first reaction. When we're traveling or when we have company with another dog staying at our house it's all play at first. Then it's only when he wants to play. ( which is normal play times.) He does get jealous sometimes. (That's my main concern.) He does not like it when other dogs have his favorite toy. He doesn't show any signs of aggression he just wants that toy more than anything in the world. But as i said he is never aggressive. We've had him since he was a puppy and i've never had to worry about him being aggressive. EVER. So what do you think? Would it be bad to introduce another dog? I want to make him happy. He is pretty healthy: A couple pounds over weight, and not that bad arthritis (He's taking pills for it.) So he should live for a couple more years. Lets see here, I am 19 and my dad is 46. We had a really good relationship up until I was about 10, then things started to go down. It didn't go down fast at first, the big increase probably started around 12 when my mother died. In 7th grade my dad kicked me out and I lived with my grandparents (motherside) for about half the year, then I got to move back in. One of the problems we have is trust, I can't trust him with anything, cause as soon as I tell him, everyone knows. I'll even say, Dad, please don't tell anyone about this. He says, ok, then I tell him and he tells people. I wanna say at the end of 16 going on 17 me and my dad started to make noticeable progress. Then he gets remarried, now I don't have a problem with this as long as it makes him happy. Except for the fact that his new wife treats me like crap. She puts her girls over me and my brother. Ok, understandable, they are her daughters but she gets my dad to do the same thing. She controls my dad, she didn't like our dog, so she told my dad it had to stay outside even when it was like blizzarding outside. When we went on a vacation to Deytona, Florida she convinced my dad to send me on bus ride home all the way back to IN.She did that by convincing him that I was trying to sneak out to a club, when I wasn't even really capable of doing so. So when I was 17 she convinced him to kick me out and I ended up living with my sister. Well, now I am in the Air Force, making a living, making something good out of something bad. I spend thousands of dollars traveling back home to try and fix things with him and each time I come back, she gets in the way. Came back for highschool graduation ceremony, she gets him to flip out at me for using the restroom in their house when I came by to pick up my luggage cause the airport lost it. Thanksgiving, we are going to take a family picture, the whole family is there, I have to leave in 10 min. to go spend time with my gf family. I let my dad know but he said we had to wait for a friend to come so he could be in picture too. I told him that I had to go in 10 min and that we would need to take it before then or I wouldn't be in it. Well, I wasn't in it cause we were waiting for a non family member to come for our family picture! Then Christmas, he has all these days off, you'd think he would set up times for us to spend some time together, after all I've spent thousands of dollars traveling up there...nope. One time we went out to Chipotle, I tried to tell him how I felt and I didn't feel he was trying to have a relationship with me, his response was to deny that, to deny how I felt and say my feelings were wrong and he was trying. I am going to be taking a three-month work assignment in another province and of course my dog is coming with me. It will be about a 2 hour flight to get there. My dog will be 8 months old by the time we go (beginning of March) and is currently just over 8lbs. I know that I can fly Air Canada and that they do allow small pets in the cabin under your seat, so all of that is fine. She is also used to traveling in a carrier, as I have used one in the car for some time now. She does the 4-5 hour drive to my parents with no trouble whatsoever. She has not, however, ever been on a plane. I wondering how she will do all the time sitting around at the airport too. Has anyone managed to let the dog have a bathroom break before boarding? I don't want to break any rules, and they say the dog has to be in the carrier the whole time... So... if you have ever traveled with a small dog in the cabin, I would love to hear how you managed it and how the dog did. Thanks! more

Hello My husband deploys soon and I am going to be moving with my parents during his 15 month deployment and bringing my 8 month old shep/collie girl with me. I know petco has air travel kennels and was wondering if there is a better kennel then just the plastic ones? I am wanting to fly delta airlines from schofield barrack hawaii to seattle wa because they are non stop and they also take the giant size kennel! She has never flown before and I believe she going to be scared =( When is the best time to travel with her? Late night during her sleep time or early in the morning? Ok, I am 20 years of age. I work at Petsmart as a dog trainer and I don't want to be working there for the rest of my life. I am not motivated enough to go to college at the moment. I did go a semester and it wasn't my thing. I love to travel allot, and have always loved the ocean. I want to go to school while in the Navy or the Air Force to get my Bachelors degree to become a Pilot, in the mean time I am a hands on learner and love to build and put things together, so maybe work on Air Planes, or even be a load master. I don't know what branch would suit me the best. I have talked to every recruiter under the sun for every branch but i am still having a hard time to find out what i want personally for myself. Those are two great branches. My brother has been in the Air force for 20 years and loves it along with his fiance who has been in the service for 6 and just re-enlisted for another six years. My brother is a Pilot and flies the the big C-17. I want to be able to travel and to fly. I have loved the air force since I stayed on an air force base when I was ten in Del Rio when my brother recieved his wing's. The base was nice. I heard the navy base was nice. I really want to do something with my life and fight for something a believe in. I love our troops and respect them fully. I want to make a difference too. I have already taken the ASVAB practice test and passed, but can anyone tell me there experiences in the Navy and Air force and wich one travels more and may best suit me? more

It was a terrible movie made in the time period from 2000 to maybe 2005. These kids have a stopwatch and they can freeze time whenever they want. I settled down for bed, in a crunchy pile of leaves. Well At least they are not scattered this time. I licked my paws before bed. Oh, how they ached. I caught a plump mouse for dinner. First real meal I've eaten in a long time. I've been traveling to long and to far. I'm not one of those pampered felines, with high end foods, and a hand constanatly on them to brush back their fur, and serve them hand and paw. Bah, I'm happy here anyways. When we moved to Spain from UK our dogs flew with us with the pet passport scheme , because we weren't expecting to move from Spain we never kept their passports up to date .But we have found a business in Tenerife and would like to move quickly . The problem is we don't want to put the dogs in quarantine ,so it would mean one of us staying in Spain for approximately 6 months while waiting for the anti-rabbis jabs to be completed. My question is, does anyone know if this is correct ,my friend said as we are going from Spain to Tenerife the waiting time is only 21 days as Tenerife is a part of Spain. Resolved Question: Can i refuse the border patrol to search my car?

I was recently traveling from San Diego to Phoenix along the U.S.-Mexican border with my mother and we came up to one of the many routine border patrol mobile checkpoints. I was driving my subaru sti which is very noticable and the agents had their drug dogs sitting near the lane where cars drive through. As we aproached the checkpoint the dog became interested in my car and began looking in our direction and trying to walk toward it. When i came up to the Agent questioning people before they passed through we asked all the usual questions then asked me to pull over ahead to the search area. i had no problem with this. we got out as ordered and sat on the bench and an agent began questioning us as another agent walking the dog around my car. He then asked if i give consent to have them look through the cabin of my car and have the dog sniff through it. Now i am in the Air Force and do not fit the profile of a drug smuggler or pot head. As they could see when i handed them my military id. But i had nothing to hid so i said go for it. The dog got hair all over my interior scratched my seats and spilled my soda on my seat. They found nothing and told us we were free to go. To say the least i was furious. But what could i do? So we left but my question is when the agent asked if i give consent for them to run the dog through my car, if had said no. What would come of this? Even if i just said your dogs fucked up my interior last time but an agent may search it. Will they detain us or what? Im heading back next week and i will not let them run that fucking mutt through it again. more

Voting Question: Taking my dog on a flight, but he barks here at home...what to do what to do?

I am bringing my 2 little pups with me on a flight home for Christmas. They bark everywhere and anywhere. They bark for about 3 minutes and then eventually stop but continue to tisk and huff, but its not nearly bad as barking. Anyway, I bought them a sleepypod air. It is a really comfortable air traveling bed, and if they made ones for humans we'd probably all have one--it's that cozy looking. They like it, just as much as they like their other beds. I think that they will be okay on the flight, their barks are not angry, but they are much more rather excited, like they want to play with everyone. I am just hoping they will be ok. I know I can't predict the future, and I know that dogs that have never barked, may bark, and dogs that always bark, may act like little angels. Either way, I know I am in for a real treat. Just hoping I make it home okay. lol instead of having my flight cancelled because of my booboos. What do you think? Have you done it before? Any tips? I was thinking give them some toys, but toys are for wildness. I was thinking a kong with peanut butter. That might work. I am open to suggestions, comments, and personal stories, as this is my first time traveling with my booboos. However, they have flown cargo before underneath when they were 3 months old. So me and my husband just moved into a new house. We live on an Air Force Base and our house is pretty big there is plenty of space for a dog. Our yard is pretty small but there is a huge enclosed dog park across the street I have alwalys had a pet dog up until i was 14 I miss having a dog around alot. I have expierience in training dogs, but no expierience in puppies. I prefered something cute and small but my husband wants something big and playful :) i dont want a big dog because they arent easy to travel with and in my expierience dont have a real concept of how huge they are im tottally willing to compromise with him, I have never had a puppy and generally would prefer not to have one just because ive never had one before,but we have resources and enviroment for a puppy if we get a large breed as a puppy we should be able to train it not to jump on us and walk with us rather than walk us when it is older right? he has a close friend who has a litter of german shepard puppies they are 600 each and they are so little right now they cant open thier eyes. We would get them in 7 weeks the breeder will get them thier shots and provides free training. like i said i didn't want a huge dog. id like one that is cute and cuddly and little however it seems like those kids of dogs are mean and loud :p what do you think?? I have never owned a german shepard or met one before i dont know what they are like. but he has his heart set on them and im very willing to compromise we dont have a whole lot of money right now but we could afford them and the friend is giving them thier shots and training and is tottally willing to work with us on price and payments. i want to know more about the breed though. Bambam is a 3 y/o Shih Tzu. She's just done with her period. She just also had her partner and now we think she's pregnant. But the problem is this: One night, I was alarmed by her sudden panting as if she was having a bad dream. Then I woke her up. Yesterday, that incident happened many times that she could hardly breathe. I don't know what to do about her. I am so worried. I think she has colds. But what can I do treat her? Use deep, meaty sounds, with a rounding of the mouth to give it that vicious feel. Medium Dog: This one can be done exhaling, and keeping it completely in your mouth. I don't do the medium dog much, because I find it more of a boring style. There are also growls and snarls that can make your dog sounds all the more enjoyable. A growl should be done with a little bit of saliva held between the back of your tongue and the roof of your mouth. The actual comes from the throat as a low rumble, but it's made more wild with the saliva. A snarl is like a snort in that you take a breath with your tongue just touching the top of your mouth, and pull the air upwards towards your nose. There all different types of animals, that are pretty interesting and moose and dingoes are both becoming more extinct every year. Lets learn about them. Moose are the largest type of deer. Even though they do not look very fast they can run at about thirty- five mph, and swimming ten miles is no big deal for them. Moose are able to stay under for about thirty seconds before they need a breath of air. They live for a long time, about up to twenty years. A flap of skin known as a bell sways beneath each moose's throat. When a moose needs to defend itself , it uses it’s hooves before they use their antlers. They grow really tall and weigh a lot. They live in northern parts of America and Eurasia. Moose are herbivores and are not very aggressive unless there babies or themselves are being threatened. They usually have one baby every spring at about thirty pounds when they are born and they can easily outrun a human when they are only about five days old. The second animal is the horse. Horses can be wild or a pet. In the wild horses usually travel in a group of horses, also known as a herd. Herds are usually about twenty horses or so. They are born without teeth and get them as they get older and mature. A horse is fully formed when its about eight to ten years old. Before horses were ever tamed they were hunted for their meat and skin. The first horses were much like zebras, too small to carry anyone or anything so they were bred to be bigger. Now horses are used for tons of things. Dingoes are a type of wild dog, which usually lives in Australia or Asia. The ones in Australia are usually bigger than the ones in Asia. Unlike other dogs they can not bark, but can howl. Their ears stay erect at all times and they can turn their head almost 180 degrees both ways. They have bigger teeth the domestic dogs and feed off of things from small birds to kangaroos. Dingoes are smaller dogs weighing up to about 35-40 lbs and live for about ten years. Dingoes usually have about one litter of pups each year, and are now breeding with domestic dogs, and because of that dingoes are becoming more and more extinct each year. Resolved Question: What can I do for my dog?

I have two eight month old puppies. One loves the car and likes to have her head stuck out the window. The other is the complete opposite. She constantly drools in the car. The most she has ever traveled in the car was about 15 minutes. But today, she was in the car a bit longer and she threw up. I recently tried giving her some water just before we drive and just after, and it helped a bit, but not much. I was wondering if there is any way to help my dog get over car sickness. Any tips, anything I can buy for her. I always leave the windows down slightly to give them both plenty of air, I leave them with teddies, blankets and pillows to make them more comfortable and feel more at home. I asked a few questions about this previously, and after traveling to 4 more veterinary hospitals numerous times, I still have no answers. Every vet is confused, and it seems like there's no way to find out what's going on. The first x-ray showed that he had an enlarged liver, an enlarged heart, and fluid on his lungs. The second x-ray showed that he had a slightly enlarged liver, a normal-sized heart (high end of normal), and no fluid on his lungs. The ultrasound showed that he had a normal liver, a healthy abdomen, a normal heart (aside from his left ventricle being slightly smaller than the right ventricle), and a small nodule on his adrenal gland (this made me worried, so I asked the ultrasonographer about it, and he said that it was nothing to worry about; that it was just a benign growth. This still makes me skeptical, so I'm requesting further testing on it.) His bloodwork came back pretty abnormal the first time, yet it came back normal the second time. The ultrasonographer, and the third vet told us that he may have had a pre-existing tracheal disorder, and now something's irritating it (the same thing that attacked our cats). They said that this is not extremely likely, but they're not checking anything off until it's been tested. I have him scheduled for a tracheoscopy, to see if that's what this is. One of my biggest concerns is that he may have leptospirosis, or something similar to it. One of my other dogs is incontinent, and she takes medication for it. Sometimes, she'll have an accident, and it will be cleaned up right away, but I'm afraid that the bacterial spores in her urine transfer to the air or something. I've collected a urine sample from the incontinent dog, and I'll drop it off at my regular vet tomorrow to test for ammonia levels and everything. The environmentalist came to our house and checked it out, but now I have to wait two weeks for some air & water test results to come back in (mainly for things like radon). We're hiring a bacterial toxins specialist, but I don't know if they'll know anything more. I'm trying to find similar experiences, but I'm at a loss. Help? more

Ringo is about 9 months old and has lots of energy. I breed only once in awhile and the sire to this little guy is only 5 pts away from his AKC championship.
