What are some tips and hints for traveling with a small dog in a carrier overseas for 30 hours? I heard you can walk your dog from gate to gate..but I am not sure does anyone know if I am allowed too? There is one flight that is 12+ hours long and I just feel bad for her being caged up for so long..is there anything I can do while in the air that can help her out a little? I wished I could walk her up and down the aisle or at least take her out Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: If we were to end up getting another dog, what would be the best dog for us from this list?
This is an if we decide we need to go ahead and bring in another dog. In this I mention a bit about us and our lifestyle. I mention our other dogs personality. And some breeds that have been recommended for us. My wife has contact at our local shelter, her contact runs it. And she said even though we have a baby if we were ever ready to adopt again she would let us adopt. They don't have a child age limit but They do it on a case by case basis. My wife volunteers there and they know us. If we do bring in a new dog, I'd have to bring in a young puppy. I don't think our current dog would accept an adult dog into her pack. But she is very nurturing toward puppies. She just does better with dogs she has known from when they were pups. A little about us: We have the best dog in the world, she is a 2 year old Terrier mix. We have had since we adopted her at 12 weeks of age. She is an amazing dog. Obedient, eager to please, well behaved. Good with dogs and most cats. Great with kids. She is the perfect apartment dog, she doesn't bark much unless she thinks something is up. She is very active when outdoors but inside she is a real couch potato. Pretty much lays around and watches tv and plays with her toys. She is very calm and gentle by nature. So that is her personality. We do currently live in an apartment. They are pretty lenient about dogs here, we have Pit Bulls living here even. But in order to own a Pit Bull, Doberman, or anything like that. You have to have special permission from the landlord. We are pretty active on the go people. We take our dogs out with us a lot. Being that we are in an apartment we make sure plenty of exercise opportunities are given. We even take our dog with us when we travel. We have a baby, currently 4 months old. If we brought in another dog it would be later this year. You may say, you don't want the stress of a baby and a puppy. But compared to the stress I've been under the last year or so with a very sick dog, and being pregnant with a high risk pregnancy, and taking care of a newborn and a sick dog. Training a puppy and taking care of a baby will be a breath of fresh air. I'm a stay at home mom by the way so the dog would barely be left home alone, and if we did leave there will still be our other dog here. Any more info you need, just ask. This is a list of breeds that have been suggested to us, obviously we are open to a mix because we want to rescue. No small dogs, done with small dogs. We would prefer a dog that is not prone to being real loud and barky as well. Dogs bark, but some dogs seem to be incessant barkers. Here are the breeds that we like that were suggested to us: German Shepherd Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Really like this one but would need landlords permission, told they are fantastic with kids) Siberian Husky Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Shiba Inu Bluetick Coonhound (though I am aware hounds can be vocal) Doberman Pinshcer (Has been recommended highly to us by several people but would have to get landlords permission) American Bulldog (Have to get landlords permission) Manchester Terrier (smaller dog but I love them) Golden Retriever (I like them, spouse isn't too crazy about them.) Weimeraner GreyHound Austrailan Cattle Dog (Hear they are good dogs, but not always good with children) Smooth Coated Collie Border Collie Great Pyrenese (love them but not to crazy about the shedding) These are just different breeds we have been told about and looked into. We know they are very different dogs with different needs. Wife prefers Terriers and Bully breeds. The short coat does best with her allergies. She has a harder time with dogs with longer coats. But she loves dogs and she has always wanted a Husky, not real practical though I guess. So a Terrier or Bully Breed or short coated dog would be most practical for her. Any suggestions? No dogs smaller than 30lbs please. ThanksAdd: Before our dog died, we were looking into getting another dog. But now we aren't so sure we are ready to bring one in. We are going to give it a few months and see how everyone adjusts and then maybe bring one in. moreResolved Question: how do you take your dog with you from America to France to London to Ireland, and back to USA via air travel?

I've already read the journal of Charles Darwin as he traveled the world on the Beagle, and I've read Jon Krakaur's Into the Wild and Into Thin Air. I recall a while ago someone told me about a book written by a 30some year old man who traveled to China, and with nothing but a horse and a dog, traveled across Asia with some fantastic adventures like saving his dog from being eaten by Kazakh nomads. Anyone know of this book? moreVoting Question: Do you think this is for real or is some one trying to get my money and details off me?
I went on the net to find a dog for adoption, and tryed to find a dog close to myself. I emailed a few and was sent just once reply for a certain english bulldog. This is the reply i recived. Hi and thanks for your interest in adopting this my lovely English Bulldog baby for she is still available and by name called Cindy.I am just so concerned about her welfare and hope you can assure me of that. As such, i have little or no time to spend with her.She is really in need of a home where she will be provided with all the love, care and attention. I will be out for 8 months here in Belfast and I find it difficult to find a home for Cindy. I will be preparing her for transportation within UK only as soon as am assured that you will care for her and accept her as part of your family by getting me with answers to the following questions: Where are you located.............................? do you have children................................? Do you have other pets.........................? will you send me monthly pictures Cindy to let me know how she is doing ...........? Hoping to hear from you if you think you can provide a good home for this lovely baby...i will be sending pictures on your request.I will be waiting for your mail asap. ( as they said ) Want to know if this kind of scam happens all the time or if any1 knows anything about what has happend to them selves or friends in the past.i thort it would be a scam, even so when they offer to pay £80 for transport and i only was paying £70. So do you think some1 will call me or not? So how would these scammers get the money? moreResolved Question: Do you happen to know this animated 90's movie?
I remember somewhere back in the 90's I still watched cartoons.I've been wanting to see an animated movie for quite a while, it influenced me so much, I just cannot remember the name, I've looked everywhere I could (even on all aired animation movies). The movie was very similar to "The Pagemaster", the main character was very similar and it started with real scenes, after which, it all turned animation. The plot summary from what I recall, was about a boy who was bored with school and everything, and during a telephone conversation with a friend of his, he mysteriously receives a red-white box.He hangs up, opens the box and discovers it to be some sort of booth towards and adventure land. After the boy steps in the box, everything turns animated. I do recall he had a dog as both friend and guide to the land of adventure, the whole idea of the movie relies in the fact that during his travels he encounters numerous funny adventures, and sets an objective to destroy some sort of land of boredom and uselessness. The movie ends once again with a couple of real (non-animated) scenes. I apologize, I know this whole question sounds silly, but I so want to see that movie again.I've looked everywhere, maybe one of you guys has any idea, I would absolutely be forever thankful. moreResolved Question: RVing with two dogs and two cats.....HELP!?
My family is planning an extended RVing trip (12 months) and we have two cats and two dogs that we simply can't leave behind. We aren't worried about the traveling, sleeping or caring for them when we are in the RV, but what do we do with them when we are away (visiting musuems, sightseeing, and doing other things they can't do with us?) We can't leave the generator on unattendend to keep the air conditoning on, and we are not staying in RV parks very much (whats the point of RVing if your going to stay in a parking lot with others?" Thats why an RV is called self contained!) We aren't worried about them destroying the RV or being lonely, we are mostly concerned about them getting too hot. (like in a locked car) If we were taking a shorter trip we'd hire someone to care for them at home and we really don't want to have to re-home them, we want them to come with us, but so far we haven't been able to think of any good ideas. Any suggestions? moreResolved Question: Air Canada Approved Pet Carrier?

A Canadian couple held up by more than a dozen armed bandits while travelling through Mexico said the frightening experience was exacerbated by facing days of bureaucratic hurdles. "Two minutes of terrorism and twelve days of legal terrorism," said a weary Jack Vander Byl from his home in Portland, Ont. in eastern Ontario. Vander Byl and his wife Michelle were spending their final day in Mexico, driving their pickup truck and trailer on March 26 along a road in Tamaulipas. Their two friends, Joyce and David Miller, were following, and the travelling campers were 300 kilometres from the U.S. border. The four had been in Mexico since Jan. 5. As the road split, Vander Byl said he noticed three pickup trucks ahead, parked near the ditch, and one driver suddenly darted across the road to block any traffic. "They looked like policemen, had black uniforms, flak jackets, machine guns," said Vander Byl, adding he was not alarmed by the sight as it was common to drive through police checkpoints. When Vander Byl asked the man in Spanish for identification, the man laughed, and another bandit began forcing his hand through the cracked window. One of the 16 or more bandits pointed his gun in the air and fired a shot. "At that point, I said 'whoa, this is not a police checkpoint.' I put the truck in park and in a split second the door was open and he had me by the shoulder and yanked me out of the truck," said Vander Byl. In a few minutes, the two couples and two dogs - their friend's pets - were left by the side of the road as the bandits drove away with the vehicles. "As the guy driving Dave's truck and trailer goes by us, he waves at us and smiles," said Vander Byl. In retrospect, Vander Byl believes the couples were targeted, spotted at their last campground by the bandits. "That was the risk we were willing to take to go into Mexico, that someday this could happen. But you never dream it's going to happen to you," said Vander Byl, acknowledging certain areas of Mexico could be like "war zones." http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100411/national/mexico_carjacking moreResolved Question: What's the best airline for traveling with a dog?

Looking out at the queer night sky, James asked himself if it seemed worth it... the incredible effort, day after day, not to get ahead - not even to find his way home - but simply to survive. This world he found himself on was unparalleled in beauty, even compared to earth. It had a certain appeal, the endless fields, the tall misshapen trees, the soft brown dirt, the crystal clear water... it was more beautiful than anything he'd ever seen and yet, to James, experiencing this intense beauty came at a price that he'd never have voluntarily paid: He'd never be able to see his native earth again. He reached down, swirling his index finger in the soft, brown dirt. He studied his surroundings, attempting to create a map in the dirt. There was no real reason to do so, it wouldn’t matter where he was or where he ended up… there was nothing special about any part of this planet – nothing he could truthfully call home. No family or friends, no home, no pets… nothing to attach him to any part of this world. James threw a small pebble into the stream to his left, observed the direction it traveled, and began to walk the opposite way. He needed to find a place to camp out and fix dinner and decided it would be a good idea to stay near the stream so he wouldn’t have to carry water over a distance. Traveling during the night was a necessity on this planet. Even in cooler conditions (it reached a staggering 112 F just a few days prior) James would not be able to hide from the beastly creatures that roamed in the day – creatures that could best be described as a mix between a bear and a tiger with some bird-like qualities. The night was not particularly safe either, with what appeared to be owls the size of large dogs swooping down at a moment’s notice – the only indication of their presence being the whoosh of air that accompanied their flight. Still, he managed to survive. Day after day, scrounging for any meat or edible plant he could find, hanging on for dear life – alone. James looked at his watch. Its glass face was cracked and it didn’t keep time but habits die hard and, though it didn’t work, it was a reminder of the world he so longed to see again. He looked at the sky, located the brightest moon, and calculated how many hours would pass before day would come again. In his three months on the planet he had watched the brightest moon, which he named ‘Extrarius Luna’, meaning foreign moon, and discovered that it followed a consistent path along the sky. “Three hours ‘till dawn. I guess I’d better dig myself a place to sleep.” He grunted as he pulled out the shovel he had made from hewn stone and a strong tree branch. “What I really need to make is a pick-axe… that would speed things up a bit.” James pushed the shovel deep into the ground and flung the dirt to the side. It wasn’t particularly hard work because the ground was so soft but it was work he resented. He resented everything about the planet, including any enterprise he undertook on its surface. He stopped and took a break after a half hour of labor because of the heat and involuntarily began sifting through the freshly disturbed dirt. Something sharp cut his finger and, after yelling a profanity, he looked down to see what it was. “What in the world…” his voice trailed off as he realized the significance of what he had discovered. “It can’t be… Well, I guess it can be, but…” he looked down at the object as if it were sacred. WHOOSH An owl, or rather its other-worldly counterpart, swooped down, narrowly missing James’ head. James pocketed the object and leaped into the hole, piling dirt on himself as quickly as he could. The bird of prey let out a cry, attempted to snatch him once more, and soared back into the air. Once the flying menace was out of sight, James decided on the name for this world… contemptus terra – Despised Land. moreResolved Question: How to air travel with dog?

My grandfather died and we have to travel up to my mums hometown for the funeral. Its 6 hours drive. We have no choice but to take our 13 year old english cocker spaniel but I'm worried for his health. He moves pretty slowly. How do we prepare for it? We are already taking his little dog bed and putting it in the back part of the car (its a station wagon car so theres quite a bit of room). Should we have the air con on so that he doesnt get overheated? How frequently should we stop? Also, up at my grandparents house the back part of their garden is home grown vegetables and plants and stuff. They've been known to have red back spiders (poisonous). How do I keep him safe there? We will probably be up there for about 5 days. Also, the weather isn't too hot and not too cold. I have fought, cried, begged, pleaded, and bartered to get my guinea pigs to fly as a carry-on in the cabin with every airline in the US, and it isn't going to happen. The next best thing is checked luggage, and the man I spoke to who worked in cargo for 8 years said he'd never seen a pet mishandled, however, guinea pigs are entirely different. So I don't care about a cat or a dog or a lizard; how well any of these animals handled air travel as baggage is completely unrelated to how a guinea pig will cope. So, have you ever had to fly with a guinea pig (do you know of ANY way I can get my two in the cabin? I have talked to every department, to corporate where the only person who seemed to care at all couldn't find any kind of exception, tried "my vet said it's unsafe to have them in cargo, he'll provide a letter" [this is true and was met with, "if it's unsafe, all I can do is refund your ticket."]) and how did it result? Was your pig okay? this can even be an answer from a friend of your friend; I have no choice at this point and I just want to hear from someone OTHER than the airline how my specific pet will deal. my biggest fear is that a stress-induced heart attack will kill or severely injure my babies. People's conjecture is not helping; I want experience. moreResolved Question: Lion Protection From Retaliation Attacks With Reserve Boundaries?
Ok, this is going to be a bit of a lengthy question, but, bear with me... In the Mara Reserve in Kenya there are a number of prides, the most well known probably being the Marsh pride. It had consisted of 4 adult females, 2 adult males, cubs and sub-adults. They have featured on the BBC program many times over the past decade or so. One of the lionesses was given the name Red or 'Mama Lugga' off air(picture on my avatar). The reserve is protected, no grazing of cattle is allowed within the reserve boundaries. However, there is an unwritten agreement between the reserve authorities and the farmers that they can graze their cattle within the reserve at night, but, have to be prepared for the consequences of doing so - losing cattle to predators. They cannot kill any predators as a result as they have chosen to come into the lions territory with prey animals. Outside the reserve, they are well within their rights to do so as the cats are on their land. This happened back in December, and as a result, Red killed a cow and was speared and killed as a response to that. Given that she was one of, if not the most prolific lioness in the Mara, this is going to have an effect on tourism and this will have an effect on the community and animals alike. Decline in tourism - decline in cash flow... Many, many people have travelled there for the specific purpose of seeing this lioness and that pride and there have been reports of people cancelling plans to travel there now. Is there any solution to this... If the law was enforced to the fullest then they would only be stopped if they were caught and the Mara is a big place, and cannot be patrolled everywhere all night. Also, since there was no 'gentlemans agreement' not to kill the lions or other predators, the farmers may graze within the reserve more often and not feel as threatened because there is really nothing to prevent them killing the predators. Laws like these are incredibly difficult to enforce, the manpower to do so and also to find out who killed what lion would be near impossible... It cannot be contained in fences, aside from the huge cost, it borders the Serengetti and there needs to be an open channel to accomodate the yearly migration. The only thing i could really think is the Livestock Guardian program the CCF run.. although, a large dog is a much more effective deterrent to a cheetah than to a lion, and the cheetahs rarely hunt at night so much of their time would be spent against lions... The lions and others leaving the reserve and killing cattle and them being killed is something i think everyone can understand. When it happens within a safe area... something has to be done. Can anyone think of a solution that may work? This is becoming a huge problem all over, the spearing and poisoning of animals Within their protected areas.. Although the Masai are great believers of conservation... this can and does happen by a minority few.It is not the Marsh Prides territory that is on the outskirts of the reserve. http://www.livingwithlions.org/mara/Kikes death was never confirmed how and where, do you mean Honey who was killed by the vet error? moreResolved Question: Do you think it's safe to ship a puppy through an airline by itself? Why or why not?
I'm "adopting" an chocolate lab mix. My friend who lives on the other side of the country is letting me adopt his puppy. He's a father now and doesn't have the time, energy or money to care for the puppy correctly. I live where there's like a whole acre of fenced in property and besides school and work,I'll be home. Everything is pretty much in place besides how I'm going to get the puppy to my home. There's really no way for either of us to drive half way or all the way so he brought up shipping him next day through the airline. I know it'll be expensive but I'm willing to do that if it means the puppy doesn't have to sit anywhere for a long time. What I'm worrying about is the fact that he said the puppy already cries if my friend leaves him(something simple like outside to potty while he tends to the baby or goes to work). Would it be too stressful to make him travel by air? Is there some way to ease his anxiety? {I've been to his place and met the puppy once before. I have experience with dogs,I've been around them all my life. And the puppy is 6 months old.} moreResolved Question: GlacierWolf Question about Life, Alaska, Shooting, Hunting, Flying, and being the best human ever?
I am a long time resident of Alaska that actually knows what I am talking about. GlacierWolf my question for you is as follows. You have done more in your life then any one man can physically do or even imagine. I understand that you have served in all branches of the military. You have lived in every city in Alaska and then many more outside of Alaska. You are an amateur gunsmith that likes to brag about his accomplishments on Yahoo Answers. You even surprise me sometimes with new ones like how you are an audio and video engineer. If I am not mistaken you are an “Olympic class shooter” that never went to the Olympics making you not an “Olympic class shooter.” I wish it was possible to put 3 bullets in the same hole at 300 yards maybe an Olympian could do it. In your superhuman insight you reveal answers to questions that even puts the Alaska fish and game to shame. If I understand correctly Alaska has 26.1 million Caribou while fish and game puts the number closer to 900,000 I am just not sure who is correct. I know you are a world traveler but can you tell me where Alaska and Russia touch? The 5 times I have crossed the Canadian boarder 2 of which were with my dog that was not tattooed, and neither one of us had 200 dollars of cash on us. Come to think of it I also brought my 30-30 rifle with little to no trouble. The many times I traveled by air to and from Alaska I didn’t stop in Seattle. There is a flight everyday from Portland to Anchorage by AlaskaAir. During the summer there are flights from Denver, Chicago, LA, Hawaii, and many others that are direct to Anchorage. When you and your new wife open up your latest restaurant in Fairbanks maybe I will fly there on one of the many flights to enjoy. In closing I would like to get to my question. Do you enjoy telling lies or do you just don’t know the truth? I hope this helps “There are approximately 900,000 wild caribou in Alaska” – Alaska Department of Fish and Game “There are 26.1 million caribou in alaska’s largest herd” – Glacierwolf Somebody is lying. Who is it? Good luck. I am a professional photographer - so - lenses are my 'thing'. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. My wife and I have both worked in restaurants at one time in our lives. If you have any specific questions - feel free to email us. People, like me, who build these things - always have a national match or service match rifle handy to compair our work to. I owned about 12 AR's and spent 18 years shooting military competition before I built my first one from scratch. I live in Alaska. The problem is quite obvious why we hate Canadians. 95% of Alaska has to pass through Canada to get to Juneau, the capital of Alaska. We are not allowed to bring any form of food - meat, fish, etc - through the border. This means if I go to Juneau to fish and I catch a couple of nice 80lb halibut - I cannot bring it home. It also means when people from Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Skagway etc etc come to the rest of Alaska they cannot hunt - because Canada will not allow them to bring the game meat home. In Alaska we all carry guns for brown bear protection - heaven help you if you show up at the Canadian border with a firearm!! Even if it is Canadian legal. They will make you sit for hours before they decide to let you through the border - just to punish you for being Alaskan and owning a firearm. This means you can miss your ferry connection at Hanes. Canadian's are feely allowed to enter Alaska. But, when an Alaskan goes to pass through Canada to drive to Seattle or the state capitol - we are required to have to have $200 cash in hand for each and every person in the car. Credit cards and check books do not count - they want to see $$ in American dollars. This means a family of 4 must have $800 cash in hand - and as you drive though Canada every crook and theif that recognizes you are Alaksan by your car's license plates knows they might be able to hold you up - and take your cash. Oh, and if anyone in your car has had a DUI at any time in their life - the Canadian border guards make them turn around! Even if it was 40 years ago. Not so much as the Canadian people we hate - we just hate the attitude of the Canadian border guards who hassel us. You cannot fly direct to Alaska without first stopping in Seattle. Your friend is not going to have a good time crossing the border - he will need to drive through Canada to get to Alaska. Canada law requires a health certificate for each animal - not a big deal when you arrive with one cat and one certificate........ but a real problem for a breeder who is traveling with allot of animals. Each animal will need to have a tatoo that identifies the animal and matches up with the health certificate. Today it will put 4 rounds inside the exact same hole at 200 yards with the TLG Suppressor installed. The groups open up a tad with the suppressor off. moreResolved Question: My best friend and I have been having strange dreams?
First, my friends dreams. They always have to do with the people in our "group". We used to work with energy and stuff at school, but no one had a name for us. Anyways, in his dreams, we walk on a big road in the middle of nowhere when these "things" appear out of thin air and snatch us up. They have a slight human shape, and red eyes, but he says it isnt like in horror movies. Also, they have burnt off wings. We all die. My dreams have to do with the end of the world. Everything was going to hell in one, and I started giving my 4 dogs pills so they would die soon and painlessly. Then I left the town with my dad. The cellphones worked, so I called my boyfriend and found out he was only a few miles away from where we were. Another dream I had was about sort of time travel. But you couldnt just go back in time, you traded places with someone. I traded places with a girl my age with short short short curly blonde hair. It turns out, she and her mother (who looked exactly like my mother) had just survived the Holocaust and had moved to America, where we succeeded in living happily. I never traded places back. Any idea what these mean? Also, about my friends dream, everything near the road was dead. moreResolved Question: Air Travel with assistance dog UK?

My guy is a 5y/o mutt that I've had for 4 years, he used to "play" with his poop throwing it up in the air in an attempt to get the other dogs to go after him, he didn't eat the poop. I solved this issue with canned pineapple. Since we moved to Denver, he discovered the joys of poopcicles and goose poop. As far as I know, goose poop can contain Giardia but I haven't found any other nasty bugs that it contains, does anyone know of any other specific harmful bacteria or parasites that Canadian Geese might harbor? Has anyone had any success in deterring compulsive eating of wild animal poop? Our entire 1 mile a day walk is coated in goose poop... My dogs eat Taste of the Wild, I do not think it is a lacking of nutrients since they eat a high quality food, it appears to be more of a game. I have a lifetime supply of Drontrol Plus, should I only administer it if he comes down with a case of Giardia or as a possible preventative before any diarrhea sets in. He has not had any ill effect since migration started and since he discover the pleasures of eating goose poop; I'm hoping to keep it that way... Please only answer if you have had experience with coprophagous or this medication, I would rather get no answers than 10 "ewwwwww" answers. I can ask my teachers at school but I know there are some knowledgeable people here and thought I'd give you all a shot too. :) Suggested categories: # Travel > United States > Boston # Yahoo! Everyone would freeze and run up to me giving a "hey, we were only playing" look, only one of my 2 (the goose poop eater) were around during the crackdown whistle days. lol I've heard of hot sauce and a few other things along those lines, works better in confined yards, unfortunately the areas I walk would need a fire hose to cover all the goose poops.singleworker: thanks, I didn't even think of lepto! I'm glad I started him on lepto vaccines 2 years ago... I was honestly thinking more along the lines of e-coli/samonilla because I had a foster come down with HGE secondary to an e-coli/samonilla/tapeworm infestation. It was a nightmare of shock, fluids, medications, hospitalization, transfusions. I don't have the same resources out here and this guy isn't covered under the rescue so I don't have the fat credit card number on file with a discounted rescue vet I talk to on a biweekly basis about my latest cases. I'm thinking because of all the illnesses my guy has been exposed to during my rescue/foster days, he's like me when I worked on the ambulance... a tank against those nasty bugs... but I would rather not play with fire and be proactive against any possibilities, my 2 guys get better health-care than me... lmao moreResolved Question: Energy and Momentum Physics homework!! I'm in the military family and we're getting stationed in Europe. I just wanted to ask someone (anyone) about their experience traveling with a small dog overseas since it'll be a long flight. I baby my dog so I want her to feel as comfortable as possible. For military families: let me know how the process was for you since there's a lot of security measures... Just tell me briefly how the trip for you &the dog went, don't get into too much detail. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Should we get a puppy even though we have a older Golden Retriever?
He's 10 years old but will be 10 and a half when we would get the puppy (this spring.) He's everything to us and we really want to make him happy. How active he still is: He is still very hyper for a 10 year old dog. He runs around a lot in the house and in our large backyard. (Just not now because of the snow.) At least once a day he starts running around the house, carrying around his kong high in the air and shaking his head. (And i've never seen a dog run faster to the dinner bowl.) But that's for some of the day. the rest of the day he just wants to sleep. Personality around other dogs: Whenever we see another dog he gets super excited. Wiggling, pulling on the lead (and when in the house he stares out the window. He then gets too excited and starts running doing his kong thing.) But that's only first reaction. When we're traveling or when we have company with another dog staying at our house it's all play at first. Then it's only when he wants to play. ( which is normal play times.) He does get jealous sometimes. (That's my main concern.) He does not like it when other dogs have his favorite toy. He doesn't show any signs of aggression he just wants that toy more than anything in the world. But as i said he is never aggressive. We've had him since he was a puppy and i've never had to worry about him being aggressive. EVER. So what do you think? Would it be bad to introduce another dog? I want to make him happy. He is pretty healthy: A couple pounds over weight, and not that bad arthritis (He's taking pills for it.) So he should live for a couple more years. I don't want him to be unhappy in those last years. So what do you think? Will another puppy cause more harm than good? (Oh we want to get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.) moreResolved Question: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow?
I have four questions about the novel: *******1.) Summarize what takes place in the last section of reading.****** 2.) What types of tales are they telling at the end of the party? Describe them. 3.) Decribe the encounter between Ichabod and the Galloping Hessian. 4.) What do you think actually happened to Ichabod ******* This story was immediately matched by a thrice marvellous adventure of Brom Bones, who made light of the galloping Hessian as an arrant jockey. He affirmed that, on returning one night from the neighboring village of Sing Sing, he had been overtaken by this midnight trooper; that he had offered to race with him for a bowl of punch, and should have won it too, for Dare-devil beat the goblin horse all hollow, but, just as they came to the church bridge, the Hessian bolted, and vanished in a flash of fire. 55 All these tales, told in that drowsy undertone with which men talk in the dark, the countenances of the listeners only now and then receiving a casual gleam from the glare of a pipe, sank deep in the mind of Ichabod. He repaid them in kind with large extracts from his invaluable author, Cotton Mather, and added many marvellous events that had taken place in his native State of Connecticut, and fearful sights which he had seen in his nightly walks about Sleepy Hollow. 56 The revel now gradually broke up. The old farmers gathered together their families in their wagons, and were heard for some time rattling along the hollow roads, and over the distant hills. Some of the damsels mounted on pillions behind their favorite swains, and their light-hearted laughter, mingling with the clatter of hoofs, echoed along the silent woodlands, sounding fainter and fainter until they gradually died away—and the late scene of noise and frolic was all silent and deserted. Ichabod only lingered behind, according to the custom of country lovers, to have a tête-à-tête with the heiress, fully convinced that he was now on the high road to success. What passed at this interview I will not pretend to say, for in fact I do not know. Something, however, I fear me, must have gone wrong, for he certainly sallied forth, after no very great interval, with an air quite desolate and chop-fallen.—Oh these women! these women! Could that girl have been playing off any of her coquettish tricks?—Was her encouragement of the poor pedagogue all a mere sham to secure her conquest of his rival?—Heaven only knows, not I!—Let it suffice to say, Ichabod stole forth with the air of one who had been sacking a hen-roost, rather than a fair lady’s heart. Without looking to the right or left to notice the scene of rural wealth, on which he had so often gloated, he went straight to the stable, and with several hearty cuffs and kicks, roused his steed most uncourteously from the comfortable quarters in which he was soundly sleeping, dreaming of mountains of corn and oats, and whole valleys of timothy and clover. 57 It was the very witching time of night that Ichabod, heavy-hearted and crest-fallen, pursued his travel homewards, along the sides of the lofty hills which rise above Tarry Town, and which he had traversed so cheerily in the afternoon. The hour was dismal as himself. Far below him, the Tappan Zee spread its dusky and indistinct waste of waters, with here and there the tall mast of a sloop, riding quietly at anchor under the land. In the dead hush of midnight, he could even hear the barking of the watch dog from the opposite shore of the Hudson; but it was so vague and faint as only to give an idea of his distance from this faithful companion of man. Now and then, too, the long-drawn crowing of a cock, accidentally awakened, would sound far, far off from some farmhouse away among the hills—but it was like a dreaming sound in his ear. No signs of life occurred near him, but occasionally the melancholy chirp of a cricket, or perhaps the guttural twang of a bull-frog, from a neighboring marsh, as if sleeping uncomfortably, and turning suddenly in his bed. 58 All the stories of ghosts and goblins that he had heard in the afternoon, now came crowding upon his recollection. The night grew darker and darker; the stars seemed to sink deeper in the sky, and driving clouds occasionally hid them from his sight. He had never felt so lonely and dismal. He was, moreover, approaching the very place where many of the scenes of the ghost stories had been laid. In the centre of the road stood an enormous tulip-tree, which towered like a giant above all the other trees of the neighborhood, and formed a kind of landmark. Its limbs were gnarled, and fantastic, large enough to form trunks for ordinary trees, twisting down almost to the earth, and rising again into the air. 59 It was connected with the tragical story of the unfortunate André, who had been taken prisoner hard by; and was universally known by the name of Major André’s tree. The common people regarded it with a mixture of respect and superstMake me biz moreResolved Question: How do I fix my relationship with my dad?
Lets see here, I am 19 and my dad is 46. We had a really good relationship up until I was about 10, then things started to go down. It didn't go down fast at first, the big increase probably started around 12 when my mother died. In 7th grade my dad kicked me out and I lived with my grandparents (motherside) for about half the year, then I got to move back in. One of the problems we have is trust, I can't trust him with anything, cause as soon as I tell him, everyone knows. I'll even say, Dad, please don't tell anyone about this. He says, ok, then I tell him and he tells people. I wanna say at the end of 16 going on 17 me and my dad started to make noticeable progress. Then he gets remarried, now I don't have a problem with this as long as it makes him happy. Except for the fact that his new wife treats me like crap. She puts her girls over me and my brother. Ok, understandable, they are her daughters but she gets my dad to do the same thing. She controls my dad, she didn't like our dog, so she told my dad it had to stay outside even when it was like blizzarding outside. When we went on a vacation to Deytona, Florida she convinced my dad to send me on bus ride home all the way back to IN.She did that by convincing him that I was trying to sneak out to a club, when I wasn't even really capable of doing so. So when I was 17 she convinced him to kick me out and I ended up living with my sister. Well, now I am in the Air Force, making a living, making something good out of something bad. I spend thousands of dollars traveling back home to try and fix things with him and each time I come back, she gets in the way. Came back for highschool graduation ceremony, she gets him to flip out at me for using the restroom in their house when I came by to pick up my luggage cause the airport lost it. Thanksgiving, we are going to take a family picture, the whole family is there, I have to leave in 10 min. to go spend time with my gf family. I let my dad know but he said we had to wait for a friend to come so he could be in picture too. I told him that I had to go in 10 min and that we would need to take it before then or I wouldn't be in it. Well, I wasn't in it cause we were waiting for a non family member to come for our family picture! Then Christmas, he has all these days off, you'd think he would set up times for us to spend some time together, after all I've spent thousands of dollars traveling up there...nope. One time we went out to Chipotle, I tried to tell him how I felt and I didn't feel he was trying to have a relationship with me, his response was to deny that, to deny how I felt and say my feelings were wrong and he was trying. What should I do? Do I give up? He says he wants a relationship, but I don't see it or feel it. Should I just try to buddies with him? Does that mean we have to have stuff in common? I just really want a father figure and I don't know how to one. moreResolved Question: Simple physics problem?
Hello everyone, would you be able to help clear up a few confusions I have before the school year starts? I always considered 'force' as the bang sorta kamehameha type 'concussive force'. why then, can somebody who has just started a jump, able to hit you with the force of someone potentially travelling 100's of metres per second? what is the 'factor' that really 'impacts' and why is this what is considered so? how much does air resistence affect algebriec analysis of linear motion under gravity? what would be the neccersary 'factor' (which I assume now is not force) for someone to get killed by it How do I do this question: A delivery van mass 1200 kg travelling south at 20 m/s collides head on with a dog. The impact crushes the crumple zone of the van with an average force of 4x105 N bringing the van to rest against the dog. I am going to be taking a three-month work assignment in another province and of course my dog is coming with me. It will be about a 2 hour flight to get there. My dog will be 8 months old by the time we go (beginning of March) and is currently just over 8lbs. I know that I can fly Air Canada and that they do allow small pets in the cabin under your seat, so all of that is fine. She is also used to traveling in a carrier, as I have used one in the car for some time now. She does the 4-5 hour drive to my parents with no trouble whatsoever. She has not, however, ever been on a plane. I wondering how she will do all the time sitting around at the airport too. Has anyone managed to let the dog have a bathroom break before boarding? I don't want to break any rules, and they say the dog has to be in the carrier the whole time... So... if you have ever traveled with a small dog in the cabin, I would love to hear how you managed it and how the dog did. I was thinking about getting a Miniature horse.(I already have a lot of horse experience) I have done a lot of reading about them, but I still have some questions. Ok, I am 20 years of age. I work at Petsmart as a dog trainer and I don't want to be working there for the rest of my life. I am not motivated enough to go to college at the moment. I did go a semester and it wasn't my thing. I love to travel allot, and have always loved the ocean. I want to go to school while in the Navy or the Air Force to get my Bachelors degree to become a Pilot, in the mean time I am a hands on learner and love to build and put things together, so maybe work on Air Planes, or even be a load master. I don't know what branch would suit me the best. I have talked to every recruiter under the sun for every branch but i am still having a hard time to find out what i want personally for myself. Those are two great branches. My brother has been in the Air force for 20 years and loves it along with his fiance who has been in the service for 6 and just re-enlisted for another six years. My brother is a Pilot and flies the the big C-17. I want to be able to travel and to fly. I have loved the air force since I stayed on an air force base when I was ten in Del Rio when my brother recieved his wing's. The base was nice. I heard the navy base was nice. I really want to do something with my life and fight for something a believe in. I love our troops and respect them fully. I want to make a difference too. Should governments place a green carbon tax on jet fuel that is used to subsidise rail and ship travel? If so, are you opposed to placing a security tax on air travel to hire more security personnel, purchase full body scanners, and train bomb sniffer dogs?Peter, congrats. That post so far makes the best screenshot of the year.Andy "I have no problems with the government charging more to the airlines and they passing the costs on as higher ticket prices but not a tax especially if it is an across the board tax" Andy, what you describe is a security tax that you would pay and a tax on jet fuel is not an "an across the board tax".And Andy you said "If you don't mind such controls why don't you move to another nation or since you like the European model so much, move to Europe." Above I clearly said "governments" so based on your 225 year reference, why are you assuming I'm referring exclusively to the United States government?Trevor, I guess I'm looking at this more from a North American perspective where there has been no advancement in passenger rail travel since the inception of the diesel locomotive in the 1950s. Transoceanic ship travel, a very civilized way to get somewhere, is almost non-existent. Newer hull designs can shave days of an ocean voyage and you avoid the pains of air travel. moreResolved Question: What is that movie about the kids that stop/travel back in time?
It was a terrible movie made in the time period from 2000 to maybe 2005. These kids have a stopwatch and they can freeze time whenever they want. There was one part in the trailer for the movie in which they stop time as a dog is peeing and the pee is frozen in the air. It was probably made either by Disney or Nickelodeon. I post again because I didn't get answers last time. Emptiness is no longer a whisper, Nothingness is only a whimper.’ “Praise our Lord Etoch,” shouted an old man sitting at the gate entrance of the city of Iko, the barren lands of Duke Elias. “Praise our Lord,” said Emperor Egroth, a tall muscular middle age male with long smooth hair, to the old man recognized by an ugly scar across his face. The old man taking good time arose to his feet before Egroth and gave a simple vow of the head. He maintained his weight on a wooden rod to stand on his feet. His left hand rested on his back to support his back from the pain. “Great day, noble gentlemen, would you spare a coin? I have three children to feed; and there is little gold or silver in these lands,” said the old man. Egroth reach to a pouch at his waist-side and tossed a small pouch of silver coins to the old man. The old man smirked and then slowly walks off, barely able to walk; and the wooden rod he used to sustain himself was brittle and the bend on its weight gave the impression that it would snap at any given moment. Egroth’s horse kept on treading down the dirt path to the castle of Duke Elias. “My Lord, these lands are not suited. The earth is dry. Breathing the dirt suffocates me. These are cursed land out to kill us,” spoke Kinsmen, Egroth’s loyal general who rode at his left. “Nonsense. Everything is out to get a weak little gal such as you. The air is fine. I'm not one of those pampered felines, with high end foods, and a hand constanatly on them to brush back their fur, and serve them hand and paw. Bah, I'm happy here anyways. I got my leaves for a bed, a tree for a scratching post, mice to eat, and all the fresh air I can get. The stars make the perfect map for me, to my destination. But, honestly I have no destination. First real meal I've eaten in a long time. I've been traveling to long and to far. I got, well... I got my fur on my back and my claws in my paws. I inhale the frigid air, and release it calmly. Nothing but the night on my back! I can't wait to sleep, and dream. Dream of alternate reality. How I laugh at those pampered ones. See how they could last out here. All those feral dogs, and hungry animals. HA! They wouldn't last a day. I'm a true alley cat. You can count on that. I yawn and lick my lips. It's late I need to sleep. Get some rest so I can prowl for breakfast in the morning. I'm a hunter, a fighter, a surviver. I know no other life. Except my own. I encountered many like me. Yet, all they are looking for is to be one of the loved. mushy, gooshy, huggable, kitties! Yuck! How sick it makes me. I'm unique I guess. My black coat, golden eyes, sharp teeth. You ain't goona meet another cat like me. I'm a one of a kind. Well, cruel world I'll see you tomorrow, bright and early at the roosters crow, to find me a trail to take. I close my eyes slowly to wait for morning. moreResolved Question: Entertainment - General travel to jungles - how they celebrated new year day in jungle?
