Hi, I am travelling to South America in 4 weeks and as I am coming out of being a full time student I will be doing it on the cheap. I already have accomodation paid for, and also my air tickets. I just have to get a bus to Ecuador from Lima.. and my budget is about $1500usd for 2 months, or $25usd a day. Resolved Question: Your thoughts on this vacation situation?

We(husband and to kids) moved states away. Florida to New England. I have taking some solo trips and my husband has as well that was work related but he saw famly as well. My mom has taken some trips up to us. My father hasnt taken one trip. It has been 3 years since we have been there and we have brought our kids to visit just once and that was almost 3 years ago. We havent taken our children on a fun trip since 2006. They are 6 & 8 now. So, we are going to Orlando. We were going to try to go south to see family as well but cant afford to do that. We will be just over 3 hours away, 4 possibly including stops. Although I feel bad that we arent going to visit them, I feel they can certainly come our way for a night. Money wise its possible for my family and my dad is retired and my mom has Sundays and Mondays off of work. My FIL and BIL will be taking a trip our way. My MIL probably will not but my parents could if they chose to. Our plans are not changing. However, I would be interested in hearing what others would do. This is a low budget trip and want it to be relaxing as the last time we visited family it was a lot of work. Noone was willing to come together. We were basically forced to constantly be on the go bc this one wont be with that one and it was crazy, un fun and not very welcoming. And because of the low bidget, there will be few days and were few days last time and so zero relaxing, just aggravation. So, we are going to travel close enough to where it will not cost an arm and a leg for them(mainly my dad) to take the trip. No air fare needed. If they like we can get a 2 bedroom villa, instead of one and they can save on the hotel, too. more

Resolved Question: Planning a trip to Iceland this April - few questions?

Does this plan sound good: Me and my dad are planning a trip to Iceland this April for about a week. We are flying via Iceland Air. We are going pick up our rental car at the Airport. We are also going to spend the nights at a hotel in Reykjavik, and take daily excursions to various activities from the hotel. Would our plan be too difficult? We are on a budget, and want to spend not a lot on travel, but more on activities. Lastly, what are some must see or do things while we are in Iceland? Thank you! more

Resolved Question: How long would 6000 euro (8000 united states dollars) last YOU travelling southeast asia?

Im talking about travelling indonesia, malaysia, thailand, cambodia and vietnam (and maybe singapore not sure about the expense though) but not on too tight a budget and going solo if possible (or with a group or couple). Going to the main places (i.e bali, jakarta, kuala lumpur, kho phangan samui, bkk, phuket, phnom penh, saigon and more)with a good bit partying and seeing some of the main attractions and flying the long journeys (bkk to bali via air asia). Also staying in cheap (but nice) hotels and eating local (and the odd big mac haha) food. Even if you budget yourself far less (to prolong your visit) or spend more than above would love to hear your answers. Cheers. p.s mine would be 2 months (including my return flight home) is this too little for too much in your opinion.??i was in laos the internet is faster than my country...i didn't add it coz im not going there this time more

Resolved Question: Cheapest month for flights to London from Ireland (various airports) during summer, (Long Question)?

O.K, So I'm planning to go to London for 2 days (1 night) during the months June, July and August. I have 3 options of who to fly with. Aer Arann from Waterford to Luton. Aer Lingus from Dub - Heathrow, Aer Lingus from Cork - Heathrow. and Ryanair from Dub - Luton. The problems that arise for me is that Aer Lingus is very expensive for me (I'm only 17) But, it goes to Heathrow which is the best and closest airport to London (besides London city airport, but thats out of the question) and cheapest and quickest for transport so I can have more money and time to spend in the city. Ryanair is the cheapest but goes to London Luton which is further away and will take longer and more money to get to the city thus shortening my trip and budget. Aer Arann is Cheaper than Aer Lingus but again, it goes to Luton (read above why thats a small problem.) BUT! Waterford airport is 20 mins from me so I wouldn't have to spend money on transport to the airport and I would get more sleep and more money to spend, maybe. So anyway! My question is. Which do you think is best to go with. Also, what is the cheapest month for air travel to London, how long is the tube ride from Heathrow Airport to London city center (by Madame Tussaudes or Tower bridge lets say) And how much is it? Is there a Tube from Luton Airport to where I said above, if so. How long? and How much. Would the bus be cheaper or quicker? (I doubt it) Travel tips and advices would be greatley appreciated please. Please try to stick to the point I'm on about. I cant fly from or to Shannon or any other places very far away from me, nor to Stanstead (very much to far away I think). If you find any cheaper airlines then say so. But so far they are the only ones that I find reasonable. This trip is just for fun with Friends because I love London, and its the closest and cheapest place for a proper 2 day trip. I know I'm kind of rabbling on about how I want you to answer this question, I apologize. best answer gets 10 points. Thank you in advanced :D more

Resolved Question: US/NC to Estonia for less than $500?

The cheapest thing I've found is Expedia bargain one-way flights for around $600. One-Way works for me because I also have citizenship there. There is literally an almost non-existent job market no matter the trade and/or skill here in North Carolina, so I'm stuck with an unpredictable shoestring budget. Seems like there should be a cheaper way, the prices don't match the average state of economy. By air it's Charlotte, NC (CLT-Charlotte-Douglas Intl.) to Tallinn, Estonia (TLL-Ulemiste), but it doesn't have to be air travel. Thanks more

Voting Question: What is the best guitar for a beginner?

I am looking to learn how to play the guitar, but I not sure what guitar to buy. I have looked online and in stores and its rather overwhelming. I don't know quite what I should be looking for. I want something that is good quality and I have budgeted up to $250 for it, but I would prefer not to spend that much. Any advice on the best one to get. I am definitely thinking I want an acoustic guitar, but beyond that I have no idea. Another concern that I have is that I am a college student and I spend a lot of time traveling back and forth across the country. I am worried that a guitar might get damaged on my flights. Is there a way to protect a guitar against the perils of air travel? Any advice you can give me on what guitar to buy and just general advice for beginners I would much appreciate it. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Which beach to visit in Penang/Pahang/Langkawi?

My friend and I will be in Malaysia for about three days. He has an unfortunate fear of travelling by water (e.g. ferry, speedboat), so we'll have to go to beaches using some other mode of transport. Are there beaches in Langkawi/Pahang/Penang which can be accessed directly by road or air? (we're on a somewhat tight budget so flying is an option only if the tickets are quite cheap, say around 100-120 dollars for a round trip). If there are such beaches in all these places, which one would be the best to visit(I've been hearing quite a lot of stuff on how Penang beaches are becoming polluted and so on). We're going during the last week of December, so am also wondering about the weather more

Resolved Question: Decent ear cup headphones for home use and air plane flights?

I'm looking for some over-the-ear headphones to use at home since my laptop speakers are horrible and I do not want to get speakers because I am also looking for headphones that are easy to travel with. I am not an audiophile but I am pretty close to it, some headphones that could fold up would be pretty awesome but if it doesn't, then it's still alright. Some noise canceling feature would be nice because we all know how annoying the air plane engines are right? Comfortability is a must! Sometimes I sit on a plane for more than 10 hours+ and all I can do it watch movies and listen to music on my laptop/iPod. The bad thing is, my budget for these headphones are 200$ max... Hope you guys can help me out! more

Resolved Question: Not to forget to attack in Kabul? and Italians dead for this mission?

BUL / SIENA (Reuters) - E 'six Italian paratroopers dead and four wounded, as well as 10 Afghan civilians killed, the budget of a suicide attack today in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan. This was confirmed by Defense Minister Ignazio La Russa, while the Afghan Defense Ministry stated that there are ten dead and 52 wounded among civilians. The deadliest attack was claimed by the Taliban with a text message sent from a phone number used by one of their spokesmen. According to the first reconstruction of the incident, around 12 hours local time (about 9:30 in Italy), a bomber in a car packed with explosives was blown up after managing to slip between two armored vehicles " Lince "Italians, engaged in an escort service, traveling from the airport to the headquarters of the international force ISAF. "The pleas were 10 our soldiers. All have suffered consequences from the outbreak, six dead and four wounded," La Russa said in a speech at the Senate. "At least 150 kilos of explosives" By late afternoon, in an informative report to the House, La Russa said the car bomb that killed six paratroopers' was packed with at least 150 pounds of explosives. " The defense minister has however reiterated what was said on the occasion of other attacks, namely that the episode of today is not part of a strategy targeted against the Italians. The victims belong to 186esimo Folgore regiment and are: Lieutenant Anthony Fortunato (of Lagonegro in the province of Potenza, born in 1974), Sergeant Major Robert Valente (Naples, 1972), 1 Corporal Major Matthew Mureddu (Oristano , 1983), 1 corporal Giandomenico Pistonami (of Orvieto in the province of Perugia, in 1983), 1 Corporal Major Maximilian Randín (of Pagans in the province of Salerno, 1977), 1 corporal Davide Ricci (born in Switzerland in 1983) also belong to three of the four wounded 186esimo regiment, the Fourth Air Force. According to a spokesman for the Italian contingent in Kabul, the wounded "are completely out of danger. They scorch in various parts of the body, not deep as feared at first, and severe bruising but no fractures." Colonel Benito Milani, detachment commander of the Folgore regiment 186esimo in Siena, told reporters that the bodies could be part of Italy tomorrow: "I suppose that the bodies will arrive tomorrow or two days in Rome because the dead were from provinces different, and I suppose that the capital would be held a state funeral. " The massacre - that after the attack in Nasiriyah Iraq in 2003, which killed 17 Italian soldiers and two civilians, in addition to nine Afghans, is the deadliest attack in recent years to the Italian troops abroad - brings the Italian casualties in Afghanistan to 20. NATO: TRUE TRAGEDY BUT SOME COMMITMENT ITALY NATO has called the attack a "real tragedy" but does not question the presence of Italy in the international mission in Afghanistan. "These soldiers have died carrying out a mission absolutely essential for our own security," he told Reuters in Brussels NATO spokesman James Appathurai, adding that "there is no fear that this attack could cause the withdrawal of Italian troops from mission. Despite these "despicable, cowardly attacks that have struck in the most devious, we will not stop," he promised the Senate La Russa. That Italy could withdraw from Afghanistan has also excluded the Interior Minister Roberto Maroni, said he would "surrender to the logic of terrorism," although in recent months, the Northern League, his party, has called for an abandonment of mission. more

Voting Question: Don't know what kind of career to look for.?

Honestly I'm pretty much fed up with retail and any other low end jobs, I've always hated it. I greatly want a career in which I can be proud of, I hate being broke most of the time and living from check to check. Recently I got fired from Wal-mart which paid pretty ok, about $10.20 an hour. I liked the people but the work was just boring and very uninteresting. Now I work at another retail job that only allows part time, I rent and can barely make it on this budget. I really am not crying and I know that you need to put in hard work to get what you want in life...Although this isn't the problem here...I seriously lack direction and I'm absolutely scared of taking the wrong path, of course this has caused me to basically go no where. I fear if I pick a path and end up not liking it that I will have wasted time. I love to help people and be apart of something important, like an organization(like military or police) but more laid back(those positions have fascinated me). I'm a very laid back person, although jobs I've looked into have been police officer and air force. I quit looking into them because I don't think my personality would fit, I'm sorta spacey but I love to travel and experience new things. I'm a tad bit rebellious and sometimes have problems with authority figures(Don't like to be told what to do) also very stubborn at times, I enjoy working on my own at with projects. I can work as a team but I often find myself frustrated because I like to take control with my own ideas if I feel it isn't to the level it should be. I love being hands on, I'm a very creative person...I've found myself working on different projects for hours and hours, anything that I can design and create. Music is also a big thing for me, I love playing guitar and singing in front of people it has always seemed to click with me and people have said that I should go further with it...but honestly its a scary thing to jump into because its a hard industry to even consider. I'm not the best singer in the world but I have a pretty good voice although I'm very expressive I like to express myself. The way I see it, I would need help and would have to be guided. I like to lead but not in a way to where I'm making the choices, I like to be near the decision maker and be involved deeply. As long as my work keeps me enriched with new experiences, I would be happy. Sorry I tried to throw out as many things as possible to help people better understand my point of view. If anyone has any advice it would be very greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: 10days Australia travel?

Hi all, I am planning for a self bagpack Australia trip for 10days during end of December to early Jan, my budget is around S$8500 including air-tix. Places of visit includes: Gold Coast, Melbourne city and Sydney city. I have the following questions, kindly help me with it, thanks so much!! 1. Should I fly to Melbourne and travel to Gold Coast by bus(or car), or should I just fly to Brisbane and then to Melbourne and end with Sydney? I already planning to end my trip in Sydney. 2. What are the airlines recommended? Quatas? Sg Air? China Air? Kindly give me some reviews about these airlines... 3. Any suggestions on my budget if I am only planning to stay in motels and not hotels? What are the places I should visit when I am in the three destinations? Thanks all=)Thanks to all whom have answered!! I think my wife and I will want to spend time at the beach, enjoy the sea and su, and we really want to try out sky diving!! Also from the wonderful answers, I have some other questions... 1. Any beach, sea activities, sky diving spot that you all can recommend? I read there are many beaches along the coast, but which is good and fun? 2. I guess i'll nd to budget in the flights fr places to places now, however due to the flight&budget restriction, I got to start and end my journey in Melbourne...so will it be wise if I spend more time in Brisbane & Melbourne, and just add a day or 2 for Sydney? I know is a personal preference, but no harm to have more opinions... 3. I want to experience more of Aus. life style instead of just being a tourist, so any suggestions for me? Thank you all so much!! more

Resolved Question: Should I, a young 24 year-old woman join the Air Force?

I had plans to transfer back into a 4-year University next Spring, but because of the budget cuts in CA, schools are no longer accepting applications for Spring enrollment. I was already attending a 4-year a few years back but dis-enrolled for various reasons. For the last two years I've been attending a junior college off and on but mostly working. The reason why I am thinking about joining the Air Force now is because I would be able to proudly serve my country, I would not have to accrue more debt to finish my degree, I get housing benefits, get to travel the world/country, and I'd get good medical benefits. I've seriously thought about this two times before but never took the next step in meeting with a recruiter. It just makes sense to me now because I really want to finish school but feel it's getting pushed back more and more. I just need some opinions before I talk to my mom about it. more

Resolved Question: When do YOU get YOUR $65 million jet?

Seems the House needs SEVEN more Gulfstream jets than the Defense Department requested, for CONGRESSIONAL travel.... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124960404730212955.html KMOV: It wasn't all that long ago that Congress chastised executives of the Big Three automakers for arriving to Capitol Hill in luxury jets to ask for billions of bailout dollars. Late last month, Congress approved an Air Force budget that included $200 million for three luxury jets that will be used to carry members of Congress and other government officials. http://www.breitbart.tv/200-million-in-luxury-jets-for-congress-necessity-or-hypocrisy/Hey - sorry, these jets were ADDED by the House... Resolved Question: A DITY Move Question?

Hi. My husband is in the Air Force and we are moving our stuff from North Dakota to Georgia. We have waited 3 months for TMO to give us a date on our move and nothing...so we have decided to do it ourselves. It's about 1800 miles and we should have at least 3500 pounds of stuff, but I'm not sure...He's going into TMO on Monday again to ask them questions, but I just want to get some ideas as of now. Our Budget Truck is going to cost 1500 dollars, plus gas, etc. I'm unclear of how much we are going to get back for doing this. I read something about a dislocation allowance and advanced travel. Can someone please help with some of these questions?? I just want to know what we should ask for and so on...Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Toronto to New York (Travel Tips)?

This October I will be traveling from Toronto to New York for a week. I have these travel options. -By Air -By Train -By Bus -By Carpool Since I am on a student budget, I cannot afford the the air and train. I have carpooled and bussed locally in the past and I am comfortable with that. Now here is a tricky part. I came to Canada as a landed-immigrant in 2004 so I have been here for over 5 years. Currently I am a permanent resident. I have an Indian passport and it shows my place of birth which is Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. My question is: -What documents do I need to cross the border back and forth? -Because I was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will the border security give me a lot of trouble? What exactly should I expect in terms of questions, duration of delays, and all that jazz? -Would it be wise to carpool with a bunch of people knowing that they might have to wait for me in case I am asked to step out of the car and provide them with more information about my visit? As you can see, I am worried about how I will be treated at the border because if I am turned back for some reason, there is no way I can get back home because I do not have a ride! I am not really sure what to expect at the border. If any one you can provide me an idea of how to approach this trip, kindly share it with me. I will appreciate all your answers! Best Wishes! more

Resolved Question: Do you think the US transporation system is heading for collapse?

The head of the IATA (International Airline Transport Assoc.) announced on BBC news yesterday that airlines have lost more money in the 1st quarter of 2009 than they have MADE since airplanes were invented over 100 years ago. This should be a red flag to anyone who ha listened to the news lately, since about half of the US airlines have been close to insolvency for years and have needed bailout money to keep flying. The recent recession has crippled air freight and business travel, and has made things very bad indeed for the airline industry in general and may spark a spate of "going out of business" signs. The industry is so weak that if that happens, there may be no one to step in and provide service to discontinued routes. It is no great surprise either that the US highways are in bad shape and cannot handle any extra traffic...witness some very large trucking companies switching to rail transport because of bottlenecks and severe delays caused by excess traffic. Some eastern states are investing in rail corridors because enlarging freeways is too expensive. In essence, the highway system is at capacity and cannot handle additional traffic, and since the Interstate system was started in the 1950's, no major projects have ever been done. The Bush administration even refused to increase bridge inspections when one collapsed in Minnesota....our roads are in as bad a shape as the airlines. The real kicker here is that the Feds have favored both air and auto exclusively and both are in trouble. The rails are private companies and are very capital intensive, and even tho they are very profitable even in these bad times, capacity increases are notorious budget busters. They are currently at capacity in a lot of corridors and have actually turned away some traffic because of congestion. The Feds continue to stonewall on freight rail investment. Since the 1950's, the US pretty much lost all of it's manufacturing to other countries. More or less, everything we buy is not made in the USA and has to be imported, mainly from the Far East. Steel, textiles, shoes, clothing, electronics, cameras, TVs....all gone, and autos are almost all gone as we speak. My question is this....what will happen when the airlines crap out and everyone has to drive because their are no passenger trains or any other alternative...and the highways can't take the traffic? Secondly, how will increased imports ever get to consumers if both highways and rail is at capacity? Will the USA choke on it's own foolishness? more

Resolved Question: Do you think these actions would be effective in helping the economy?

1.Payroll Tax Stimulus. With a temporary new tax credit to offset 50% of the payroll tax, every small business would have more money, and all Americans would take home more of what they earn. 2.Real Middle-Income Tax Relief. Reduce the marginal tax rate of 25% down to 15%, in effect establishing a flat-rate tax of 15% for close to 9 out of 10 American workers. 3.Reduce the Business Tax Rate. Match Ireland's rate of 12.5% to keep more jobs in America. 4.Homeowner's Assistance. Provide tax credit incentives to responsible home buyers so they can keep their homes. 5.Control Spending So We Can Move to a Balanced Budget. This begins with eliminating Congressional earmarks and wasteful pork-barrel spending. 6.No State Aid Without Protection From Fraud. Require state governments to adopt anti-fraud and anti-theft policies before giving them more money. 7.More American Energy Now. Explore for more American oil and gas and invest in affordable energy for the future, including clean coal, ethanol, nuclear power and renewable fuels. 8.Abolish Taxes on Capital Gains. Match China, Singapore and many other competitors. More investment in America means more jobs in America. 9.Protect the Rights of American Workers. We must protect a worker's right to decide by secret ballot whether to join a union, and the worker's right to freely negotiate. Forced unionism will kill jobs in America at a time when we can't afford to lose them. 10.Replace Sarbanes-Oxley. This failed law is crippling entrepreneurial startups. Replace it with affordable rules that help create jobs, not destroy them. 11.Abolish the Death Tax. Americans should work for their families, not for Washington. 12.Invest in Energy and Transportation Infrastructure. This includes a new, expanded electric power grid and a 21st century air traffic control system that will reduce delays in air travel and save passengers, employees and airlines billions of dollars per year. more

Resolved Question: Why the opposition to high speed rail and amtrak funding?

1. Both our highway system and airline industry are heavily subsidized. In 2002, Congress appropriated $32 billion in highway funding and $14 billion for the airline industry in 2002. The FAA ran on a 2005 budget of $7.8 billion. How "successful" would the private airline industry be if it were not subsidized by the government? Would our "car culture" exist without our governments involvement in building and maintaining highways? 2. Amtrak operates on a pauper's budget in comparison, receiving just $521 million in 2002. Amtrak's entire budget accounts for less than one per cent of US Department of Transportation spending. The ratio of highway/airline to rail government funding between 1971-2001 was 63:1. How can rail compete with these modes of transportation considering such lopsided government support? 3. The government has appropriated $13 billion dollars for high speed rail construction ($8 billion initially and $1 billion every year for five years). Construction of the interstate highway system cost taxpayers $114 billion(adjusted for inflation, $425 billion in 2006 dollars). The replacement value for our commercial airline industry that was subsidized by the government (airports, traffic control towers, etc...) is estimated at $1 trillion. The proposed LAX expansion would cost the state and federal government $11 billion alone! 4.Amtrak carried 28.7 million passengers in 2007 posting six straight years of ridership and revenue growth. Amtrak averages about 69,000 passengers a day. 5. High speed rail will provide $1.3 billion in highway congestion relief and $700 million in airport congestion relief. One third of commercial airline routes are regional. Imagine how much air traffic congestion could be eased by transferring those passengers to rail. It is estimated that a full passenger rail train takes between 250-350 cars off the road. 6. High speed rail is lightyears ahead in other nations. The U.S. operates one high speed rail line (Acela express in the northeast corridor) that averages 89 mph with a top speed of 150 mph. France's TGV operates 1,700 km of LGV averaging speeds around 173 mph with a top speed of 357 mph. Japan's Shinkansen is a 2,459 km network averaging about 162 mph with a top speed of 361 mph. China operates a 430 km/h network (Plans 12,000 km by 2020) with a top speed of 217 mph (Highest top operating speed in world). High speed rail service that operates well above the United States exist in France, Japan, China, Italy, Spain, Germany and South Korea. High speed rail proposals that would exceed what currently exist in the United States (Acela express) are being planned in nations such as Iran, Morocco, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Argentina and Brazil. 7. High speed rail across the nation has the support of many republicans including Transportation secretary Ray Lahood and Republican Leader of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, John Mica of Florida. Here is a video of California's HSR proposal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD1QGNsRg... My sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_... http://www.trainweb.org/moksrail/advocac... http://www.hasbrouck.org/blog/archives/0... http://www.dot.gov/bib2005/admins.html http://wjz.com/local/amtrak.ridership.2.... http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2006... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinkansen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_...4. Even considering the tax that is levied on the airlines for the FAA, the taxpayer has to subsidize $3 billion of its annual operating cost. Why not transfer ALL that cost onto the airlines? Sun Down: 1. If the airline industry is so successful, why do they need funding at all? 2. No matter your financial situation, you cannot neglect the transportation needs of your state. Either California builds high speed rail or they build yet more highways. 3. Rail exist in only a select few places. Most Americans don't have access to rail. Its flawed logic to compare ridership numbers to the overall general population. I'd also like for you to read again what I wrote about underfundingMoltar: 1. Four of the seven largest U.S. airlines are in bankruptcy and the airline industry needed $5 billion in cash and an additional $10 billion in loan guarantees from the government to continue operating. The ONLY airline that operates with a profit is Southwest airlines. 2. China is roughly the size of the United States. Secondly, no one is proposing CONNECTED high speed rail across the nation but rather regional networks that would exist only where it's profitable to do so. Thirdly, the networks that exist in France and Japan are roughly the size of the networks that would exist under the proposals. 3. The cost to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles is $40 billion dollars.HSR cost only half as much to build than the same capacity in roads and air. The same geographical obstacles exist in Japan and France. Also, the engineering aspect of California HSR has already been laid out with construction phases already scheduled. more

Resolved Question: What is the best way to travel from Bangkok to Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City?

By best I mean cheapest and fastest. I'm in Thailand right now and have about a week to travel before I start work. I'm guessing air travel is out of the question since its such late notice, but if there is a budget flight I'm unaware of please let me know. Right now I'm thinking bus/train travel would be best, but don't really know anything about where to go for either of those. I don't have a visa either so I would need to get one of those somewhere along the way. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: bought a 1999 206 saturday and suspected head gasket blew on way home, cheaper for new engine??? please help!!?

Right basically I travelled over 100 miles to go and get my new car, I had saved up for months and waited a week to get it. We got down there and everything was fine, handed over all our cash and started the journey home, got about 60 miles up the A road and noticed that the cars stop lights came on, car was struggling to get up the hill so pulled over into a layby where it didnt start again... AA came out and suspected 'internal combustion' or head gasket (just my luck) so had the car towed to the nearest garage. Now we're suspecting that the car has been skimmed before seeing the lad who sold it to us said he paid 280pounds for a new gasket before and that it was only the air line blah blah blah. I understand whichever way that this is going to cost money but have had a quote on a second hand 206 1.9d engine at 180pounds plus delivery. Does anyone know if i would be better off to buy this and just start a fresh or actually go ahead and have the work started... as the garage tell me they will have to start the work to see what the problem is anyway. so bearing in mind this car obv hasn't been looked after, i have been plain and simply stupid and am now stuck with a car i cannot use and already think the gasket has been skimmed, would this be the better option to just get a new engine? please help!! I'm serioulsy on a budget as have just left for maternity leave (which the bloke who sold us the car could quite easily see i'm not far off) and am really worried the garage will start and find all types of problems that i wont be able to afford. thanking you kindly in advance. Thanks Petey, I kinda guessed he already knew but I suppose he thought it would at least get us back... The fact that i'm 8 months pregnant didn't seem to bother him at all and I know now that I was stupid but always easy to say in hindsight! I did call him and he told me it wasn't intentional etc etc but quite obv was. So now i'll just have to see how much damage is there and get saving :o( more

Resolved Question: Anybody been to Amsterdam and beyond?

I'm travelling to Amsterdam in May. I'm just wondering if 12 days is too long a stay there and some of my friends do suggest to travel to other cities and also neighbouring countries during our stay in Europe. While I'll love to travel to other cities, I have a budget in mind-about 4K Euros, not including accomodation and air tickets. Anybody has travelled to Amsterdam and other European cities?
