Resolved Question: Do you think the world is now under the *Judgement* of GOD?

There is not one nation in the world that is not experiencing a *Crisis* from record floods in Spain, Brazil, China and parts of the USA to global economic crisis as more countries have falling economies due to the dollar, the euro and the yen, record famines, foreclosures, job losses, looming wars, N Korea and Iran trying to obtain a Nuclear Bomb in 24 months, immorality running amok, from giving children in Kindegarten *Condoms* to having a 10 Yr old be a Grand Marshall at a Gay Parade, from children younger than 13 opting for abortions especially in the UK. Earthquakes and Volcanoes are breaking records for MASSIVE ERUPTIONS from Iceland, to the Phillipines to Hawaii to Russia. the Ring of Fire is more actve than Geologists have seen. The SUN record low sunspots and now NASA say a Solar Storm could wipe out earth in 2013 NASA: Solar storm to hit earth in 2013 Quote NASA scientists predict a solar storm will hit the earth in 2013 mostly affecting electronic devices leading to a major catastrophe. The once-in-a-generation storm, caused by extremely high levels magnetic energy released by solar flares, "will disrupt communication devices such as satellites and car navigations, air travel, the banking system, our computers, everything that is electronic," says Richard Fisher, head of NASA's Heliophysics Division It Is Now Mathematically Impossible To Pay Off The U.S. National Debt.. http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/it-is-now-mathematically-impossible-to-pay-off-the-u-s-national-debt Oil And Gas Leaks From Cracks In Seabed Confirmed – Videos Show Gulf Oil Spill Leaking From Seafloor http://blog.alexanderhiggins.com/2010/06/13/bp-gulf-oil-spill-seafloor-oil-gas-leak-videos-photos/ more

Resolved Question: What if air travel in the future becomes impossible due to volcanic ash clogging up jet engines?

See the newspaper article here: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/797160--no-end-in-sight-as-volcanic-ash-spreads If the Iceland volcano keeps erupting for years, what will happen when jet travel in Europe, Russia, Asia and North America is all shut down? We even send fresh vegetables via air. Seems silly, but we do.Before you give a lame answer, actually read the article posted. We're not talking about ash on the ground, we're talking about ash STUCK in the jet stream and causing havoc on jet engines. To get through an ash cloud pilots have to turn off the plane's engines, glide through the ash cloud, hope they reach the other side and then try to restart the engines which may have become clogged/damaged by passing through the ash cloud. more

Her stupidity put this child at serious risk. Why did airport authorities allow this? Should a 7 year old be allowed to travel by air alone? more

Resolved Question: GlacierWolf Question about Life, Alaska, Shooting, Hunting, Flying, and being the best human ever?

I am a long time resident of Alaska that actually knows what I am talking about. GlacierWolf my question for you is as follows. You have done more in your life then any one man can physically do or even imagine. I understand that you have served in all branches of the military. You have lived in every city in Alaska and then many more outside of Alaska. You are an amateur gunsmith that likes to brag about his accomplishments on Yahoo Answers. You even surprise me sometimes with new ones like how you are an audio and video engineer. If I am not mistaken you are an “Olympic class shooter” that never went to the Olympics making you not an “Olympic class shooter.” I wish it was possible to put 3 bullets in the same hole at 300 yards maybe an Olympian could do it. In your superhuman insight you reveal answers to questions that even puts the Alaska fish and game to shame. If I understand correctly Alaska has 26.1 million Caribou while fish and game puts the number closer to 900,000 I am just not sure who is correct. I know you are a world traveler but can you tell me where Alaska and Russia touch? The 5 times I have crossed the Canadian boarder 2 of which were with my dog that was not tattooed, and neither one of us had 200 dollars of cash on us. Come to think of it I also brought my 30-30 rifle with little to no trouble. The many times I traveled by air to and from Alaska I didn’t stop in Seattle. There is a flight everyday from Portland to Anchorage by AlaskaAir. During the summer there are flights from Denver, Chicago, LA, Hawaii, and many others that are direct to Anchorage. When you and your new wife open up your latest restaurant in Fairbanks maybe I will fly there on one of the many flights to enjoy. In closing I would like to get to my question. Do you enjoy telling lies or do you just don’t know the truth? I hope this helps “There are approximately 900,000 wild caribou in Alaska” – Alaska Department of Fish and Game “There are 26.1 million caribou in alaska’s largest herd” – Glacierwolf Somebody is lying. Who is it? Good luck. I am a professional photographer - so - lenses are my 'thing'. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. My wife and I have both worked in restaurants at one time in our lives. If you have any specific questions - feel free to email us. People, like me, who build these things - always have a national match or service match rifle handy to compair our work to. I owned about 12 AR's and spent 18 years shooting military competition before I built my first one from scratch. I live in Alaska. The problem is quite obvious why we hate Canadians. 95% of Alaska has to pass through Canada to get to Juneau, the capital of Alaska. We are not allowed to bring any form of food - meat, fish, etc - through the border. This means if I go to Juneau to fish and I catch a couple of nice 80lb halibut - I cannot bring it home. It also means when people from Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Skagway etc etc come to the rest of Alaska they cannot hunt - because Canada will not allow them to bring the game meat home. In Alaska we all carry guns for brown bear protection - heaven help you if you show up at the Canadian border with a firearm!! Even if it is Canadian legal. They will make you sit for hours before they decide to let you through the border - just to punish you for being Alaskan and owning a firearm. This means you can miss your ferry connection at Hanes. Canadian's are feely allowed to enter Alaska. But, when an Alaskan goes to pass through Canada to drive to Seattle or the state capitol - we are required to have to have $200 cash in hand for each and every person in the car. Credit cards and check books do not count - they want to see $$ in American dollars. This means a family of 4 must have $800 cash in hand - and as you drive though Canada every crook and theif that recognizes you are Alaksan by your car's license plates knows they might be able to hold you up - and take your cash. Oh, and if anyone in your car has had a DUI at any time in their life - the Canadian border guards make them turn around! Even if it was 40 years ago. Not so much as the Canadian people we hate - we just hate the attitude of the Canadian border guards who hassel us. You cannot fly direct to Alaska without first stopping in Seattle. Your friend is not going to have a good time crossing the border - he will need to drive through Canada to get to Alaska. Canada law requires a health certificate for each animal - not a big deal when you arrive with one cat and one certificate........ but a real problem for a breeder who is traveling with allot of animals. Each animal will need to have a tatoo that identifies the animal and matches up with the health certificate. Today it will put 4 rounds inside the exact same hole at 200 yards with the TLG Suppressor installed. The groups open up a tad with the suppressor off. more

Resolved Question: How fast can I fly from Yuzhno to Aberdeen?

Here is a good challenge for some of you travel experts out there..... I work in Russia, Yuzhno, Sakhalin to be exact. I live in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK and I fly back and forward quite a lot. It is litereally the other side of the planet and the travelling can get a bit tiresome. I have always been looking out for the perfect travel combination to minimise time. My usual is: Yuzhno - Seoul (+overnight stay) - Paris - Aberdeen. This means I leave on the Friday and arrive in Aberdeen on the Saturday at 5pm so effectively it takes me over 24 hours to travel. There is a route via moscow but it only saves two hours. I collect flying blue miles so prefer the likes of air france, KLM, Korean air etc but this is certainly not essential. What is the fastest route, plane, train, car whatever..... door to door. Thank you all in advance.... GO! more

Resolved Question: Obama supporters: A walk down memory lane, Obama's first 50 days. Are you finally ready to admit your chosen?

leader is in way over his head? http://www.examiner.com/x-3704-Columbia-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m3d15-When-the-world-figures-out-Obama-is-in-over-his-head BELOW IS JUST THE FIRST 50 DAYS: Russia is considering sending bombers to air bases in Cuba and Venezuela. A dangerous liaison has been forged between Communists and Islamo-fascists in Iran, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea. Obama has ordered a halt to a missile defense shield that is necessary to protect the free world from nuclear attack. Obama has also ordered the release of known terrorists from Gitmo--cold blooded murderers who are now back at work in the Jihad. And let's not forget that Obama has also ordered the closing of Gitmo, which will mean that ultimately the world's most dangerous persons will be sent to the U.S. mainland to be housed in somebody's backyard. Add to these the fact that Obama has snubbed some of our closest allies, such as Britain and Israel, and cozied up to some of the most barbaric terrorist regimes in the world, such as Hamas. He also wants to open up travel and trade with Cuba even as the Communist regime considers allowing Russian bombers to take port in its air fields. Are you finally seeing a pattern here? more

Resolved Question: please correct my english pls?

Hey guys I am writting this research paper and here is the introduction, please correct my english. Also it it go idea to include those in the introduction? what else should I or shoul i not include in the introduction of research paper? Will it be wise move to make Province “Busan” the new capital of Korea? Under this research title, this project was done to answer the research question. The main plot was to investigate whether province “Busan” is suitable to be Korea’s new capital. It was clear that the question of moving the whole city to another place made many to think whether this move would worth or even right move to make. As this is very complicated and controversial, the question was not easy to answer with just YES or NOs therefore further exploration is done and varies factors were looked at. Busan is the one of the 5 provinces of Korea and is located south part of Korea. More geometrically it is located right in middle of the country. Would this have been the main factor that attracted people’s idea of movement plan? Or was there more? To answer such hidden questions, the factors of location, resource, availability were looked up closely. Location wise, it was no better than the current capital as it is located right in centre which means more travels had to be made by varies groups of the whole nation and would make it even harder for the living of whole population as Korea is the country that base their living on imported goods from foreign countries, such as Russia china, Japan. In the case of resource, it was more targeted for the availability of the land and the fresh air since the whole city population is facing pollution problem every winter which nothing is been done to solve pollution issues. As a result of looking at the main factors that thought to be the main attraction to this province, it was concluded not to move the city to “Busan” as it is not suitable for the whole city to settle there as a result of cost of the movement that would cause or harm the country as a whole. more

Resolved Question: Can you please read my short story and give me feedback?

here it is. its a narrative, for school. its not finished. please give me your opinion. and what should happen next? Lightening crashed loudly, in the dark night outside, and I shivered under my thin, cold sheet. I held my breath as our old, purple caravan, rocked around, sending our stack of weekly fresh eggs, off the shelf, and onto the floor. On the top bunk, above me, I could feel my older brother, Jay, tossing and turning, and on my right, I could see that my sister Ava, obviously wasn’t very comfortable on her fold-out foam mattress. I sighed loudly. For 13 years I had been living like this. Circus performing, travelling, home-schooling, and never doing anything other than these three things. Ava, Jay and I, me being the youngest, were taught trapeze as soon as we could walk. We have lived in the same caravan, our whole lives, and have been travelling with the Galliano circus, for as long as we can remember. Sure, it’s been great, we’ve been to many more places, than your average teenager and we’ve had heaps of great experiences. But recently, things have been beginning to change. Ava, now sixteen years old, is sick of dancing, and wants to stop performing, and the circus manager, Digby, is now considering dropping Mum and Dad’s act, for a younger, new couple from Russia who are more experienced. We know that it’s coming, any day now, our lives are going to change, and we’ll be forced to step out of our usual routines and leave the circus. At the moment, I’m praying that it’s going to be soon. One cheap, rusty caravan can only handle so many storms. Well, it happened. One week ago. Henry came over to our caravan, with a large white envelope. He sat down, and explained to us, that our time at Galliano’s was finished. The cast would miss us terribly, and that our family was a huge loss to them…. Blah blah blah. He gave Dad our final pay package, and then told us that when the circus moved on to Cornwall, in the next few days, that we could quietly depart. I think Mum was a bit devastated really, since we don’t have any place to go. ‘What are we going to do Jerry?’ she sobbed ‘Don’t worry, love’ he said kindly. ‘Everything will sort itself out’ Ava jumped for joy, and even Jay started dancing, until he crashed into the ironing board, and Mum scowled at him. ‘Mum! It doesn’t matter any more! We’re going to go to a normal school and we’re going to have a normal house! With furniture that doesn’t fold out!’ I shouted loudly. Over the next couple of days, we packed up our belongings. I didn’t have much. Just a small brown, box with a few books, some clothes, and some stringy home-made jewellery. The others didn’t have much either. Dad had the most, because he collects heaps of junk that he can’t bear to throw out. We also performed in our last show, which was a bit sad, but also happy at the same time. I took a deep breath as I walked onto the sparkly stage and displayed my tricks for the very last time. We weren’t going to join another circus. We’d had our day. It was time to start a-fresh. I leaned back into the plush, reclining chair of the aeroplane and looked around. Dad was gazing out of the window, admiring the views, while Ava was shutting her curtain window because she felt sick looking down. Good old Mum, was stashing away some free biscuits in her handbag for later and well, I’m not quite sure what Jay was doing. Sleeping, maybe. Dad had decided that we needed a short holiday before we moved back into town and began high school. We were all delighted at this idea, and Mum had chosen the Caribbean as our destination. I was very appreciative. In two hours we would be landing at the Aqua Turtle Resort. Pure luxury. A pretty air hostess, with long dark hair and very long eyelashes, came up to me. Her name tag read Louise. ‘Hey sweetie, would you like a grapefruit Spritzer?’ she said, gesturing to some tall glasses with a fizzy pink liquid in them. ‘Sure, thanks’ I replied. I removed the pretty umbrella from the side and took a gulp. Yum. Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. The plane began to shake violently and I dropped my drink, smashing glass splinters into my ankle. I caught a glimpse of Ava’s pale face as she tipped sideways, I could hear people shrieking and crying. The shaking got worse, and I saw a flash of orange flames before my eyes. I heard a painful smash and then all was dark. _____________________________________________________________________ My sleepy, swollen eyes, opened a tiny bit, and I was blinded by harsh, dazzling, sunlight. I breathed in, and nearly choked on the foreign, sweet tasting air. Where was I? Surely, I hadn’t hit my head on the tightrope bar again? Ouch. Yes, my head definitely hurt. I pulled myself up and looked around. Bodies. Everywhere. Mess, blood, bodies, debris, and dirt. A massive pit of it. I looked down at myself, my hands were both bruised and cut, and my right leg was resting on a funny angle more

Resolved Question: What will Israel do about Russia smuggling nuclear WMDS to Iran?

"Evidence of a secret dash to Russia by Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, intensified speculation yesterday that a hijacked cargo ship was smuggling arms to Iran. The Kremlin defended its right to sell S300 air-defence missiles to Iran as Mr Netanyahu was forced on to the defensive over his movements. Officials refused to say where he was after admitting that an announcement of a visit on Monday to a security facility run by Israel’s Mossad security service was untrue. Mr Netanyahu’s office said only that he was “busy with a classified activity”. It did not deny an Israeli newspaper report that he had travelled to Moscow to urge the Kremlin not to sell weapons to Israel’s Middle Eastern enemies amid claims that the Arctic Sea cargo vessel was carrying S300s destined for Iran when it was intercepted by the Russian Navy." what is Israel going to do about this threat? more

Resolved Question: How do i tell my parents i want to go to Russia?

I'm set on going to Russia for an exchange program in my junior year of high school. I have looked at the different sites and programs, i've come to the conclusion that YFU( Youth For Understanding) is the most professional exchange program. I've tried to bring it up in everyday conversation. I've tried to get a job and talk about travel, but they wont take a hint. I REALLY want to go and have an awesome year, learn Russia, and learn skills that will help me into the Air Force Academy, a school my parents are trying to talk me out of. *sigh* any suggestions?? more

Resolved Question: In the past 6 decades do you think anyone from Russia or the US tried to figure out how to win a nuclear war?

Atomic weapons --- they were by comparison to today's mega weapons fairly small -- one US official referred to the bombs dropped on Japan as "little toy weapons" compared today --One of these toy bombs leveled 4 miles in diameter The Russians and others have come up with a vacuum bomb -- "The daddy of all bombs" as their papers put it ---- All the boom with none of the radiation Plus the speed factors have multiplied by a thousand -- A plane carrying an atomic bomb to drop over a target and run like hell --- is just an out of date concept --- It is as gone as the vinyl records and rotary phones 2,500 tests that we know of have been conducted -- ( The US admits to 1000 and the Russians admit to the other 1000 --- the 500 make up France Britain India and a handful of others --- many of these were conducted in cooperation with the US -- so stats may be misleading) Missles can no travel at twice the speed of sound ,the speed of sound through the standard atmosphere is 761 mph Now there is space --- yep -- you can orbit a bomb and drop it on anything anywhere --- or just simply explode it in the air 6 miles up in legal no mans land -- And take out an entire national electric grid -- Any military sites which are not covered by a Faraday cage will be fried and unusable -- --------------------------------- Yet with all of these complexities -- ---- It is really this simple --- I need to get my punch in before you get a chance to react and I need to knock you out so you can't punch me back --- ------------------ Now that part --- at least hasn't changed since man discovered the pointy stick --------------------------------- In the past 6 decades do you think anyone from Russia or the US tried to figure out how to win a nuclear war The Pentagon --- the Kremlin --- the Chinese --- any one else with a nuclear weapon -- Has anyone ever said -- Hey you guys -- figure out how we can win a nuclear war ? Or did they just all give up and say can't be done ? Am I really supposed to believe that?hayesatlbch I agree -- but to play devils advocate How good would those subs be with no command structure ? Who would they attack and with no communication how would they know the mainland had been attacked ? more

Resolved Question: clever title for my report?

Explorers of the arctic have a very unique type of job. The arctic is the area in the world, which is above 60º latitude. On Earth, we have two regions known as the arctic. In the northern hemisphere we have the Arctic Circle, which includes the North Pole, Canada, Greenland, Russia, Alaska, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Arctic Ocean. In the southern hemisphere, we have the Antarctic Circle, which can also be referred to as just Antarctica. Although there are many risks of traveling to the arctic, and some bulky equipment to carry, studying the arctic will result in benefiting us all. Traveling to the arctic can be very risky. It is located at very high latitudes, where the ice will never vanish. It is usually very sunny, but a storm, along with snow flurries, can occur at any time. You must be prepared for rapid weather changes. The very violent storms are known as falling winds; these are very violent storms that come from the Inland Ice. The water actually becomes whipped into the air. Being in the arctic, snowstorms can result in mild to severe frostbite, snowblindness or hypothermia. If traveling by boat, being in the icy water with high-speed winds can push your boat into an iceberg, resulting in a crash. Traveling to the arctic will require much equipment because being in the arctic, temperatures are usually –30 to –50º Fahrenheit. The wind speeds often range from 30 to 50 mph. The wind chills will usually cause the temperature to be -100º. Being this cold, you will need to have breathable under layers, heavily insulated middle layers, and waterproof outer layers for clothing. Being outside, expedition tents need to be able to withstand blowing wind and snow, and sleeping bags need to be waterproof, breathable and insulated. Explorers need to have enough essential food and water to fuel energy, warmth and survival. You may wonder what the purpose is of traveling to the arctic. The arctic is the perfect place for biologists, glaciologists, geologists, oceanographers, atmospheric physicists, chemists and meteorologists to do their research. They study endangered species, look for cures for diseases, and examine global warming. Global warming is one of the most recent issues of today. The ice in the arctic is melting; this is caused by the air pollutants that have made a hole is the ozone layer. The ozone layer protects the earth from radiation. Since there is a hole in it, radiation is seeping through and melting the ice in the arctic; this radiation is warming up our atmosphere, which is melting the ice and also affecting our climate. As you can see, arctic explorers have an important role on our earth. While studying the arctic, scientists can fully understand what is happening to the ice and how we can solve our current problems. In the long run our world will be safer and better, due to the exhausting work these explorers have gone through. more

Resolved Question: IS THIS TRUE ABOUT OUR TECHNOLOGY FROM ALIENS?

The US government started the cover-up almost from the very beginning, after retrieving the wreckage of a flying saucer and bodies of its occupants from Roswell, NM, in 1947. Following the retrieval, President Truman set up a top-secret council of 12 leading scientist, military men, and politicians as a policy-making body to deal with the UFO question. This council was known as MJ-12. The “MJ” stands for “Majestic” or “Majority,” depending on the story teller. Associated with MJ-12 was Project Aquarius, an umbrella project covering smaller projects such as Project Plato and Project Sigma, which deals with communications with the aliens. At a 1954 meeting with the US Government at Holloman Air Force Base, a race of aliens called the greys revealed that they were just one of nine alien races visiting the Earth. They had come from “Zeta Reticuli” 25,000 years ago to influence human evolution through genetic engineering, and now they wanted government help for a scheme to rejuvenate their dying race. The two sides signed a treaty. The government helped the aliens abduct cattle and humans, (for extraction of body parts and DNA, and for food), and to create hybrids and cyborgs-creatures that were part flesh, part machine. The aliens worked out of secret bases in the US Midwest. Meanwhile, the government was using alien technology to create its own advanced technologies at secret research centers such as Area 51. MJ-12 operated as a secret government within the government, using experimental mind-control techniques and aliens implants to control and subjugates the human race in preparation for conquest and colonization. By this time the secret government included the leaders of Russia and other world powers. With alien technology they had established bases on Mars and the dark side of the Moon (hence the name “Dark Side”). The UN (United Nations) is just a front for their activities. In order to fund their activities MJ-12 started trading in drugs. JFK was assassinated when he threatened to blow the whistle. Using drugs, guns, and genetically engineered diseases such as HIV, the secret powers seek to eradicate troublesome humans and prepare the population for martial law (When the military takes over the law enforcement). Eventually a New World Order (NWO) will rule the Earth, using humans as slaves while alien hybrids and cyborgs settle the planet. In conspiracy circles, the NWO is a secret global government that is using the UN as a front to take over the world. In the wilder versions of the Dark Side myth, the aliens have used time travel to foresee an imminent apocalypse on Earth, and the NWO is preparing to save a chosen few in vast underground bases until the Second Coming. more

Resolved Question: Black people and racism in Scotland? Is this bigger than it seems?

I want to go to Scotland one day and maybe Ireland too. It seems very beautiful and I'm sure I'll find new adventures and whatnot. However, I have heard there is a lot of racism there and I've also heard that blacks won't have as much opportunities due to all of the prejudice. I'm an African American female by the way. I'm going into the Air Force so the opportunity to travel will be open and I'm going to grab it. I personally think that there is racism everywhere but in some places (like Russia) it's a tad more stronger than other places. Those stronger places of racism are places I do not want to go. Is Scotland one of those stronger prejudiced places? Or is the media just going insane and making a big deal out of a few incidents? Perhaps both? If you just google "racism in Scotland" you'll see the stories. Like the one with Wayne McIntosh and the SFA threw out his case the first time claiming there wasn't enough evidence but he got fined the second time. What do you think about all of this honestly?? I can deal with racism, I live in America and have dealt with it before. From having past white boyfriends to being followed around in stores, to being called names. But I don't want it to get to the point of abuse and constant slander, will it be like this if I go to Scotland?? Honestly? Or will it not be as bad? more

Resolved Question: The Russian sneak attack ? saber rattling or reality ?

By Oleg Shchedrov A Reuters reporter said the truck-mounted Topol was fired at 3:23 a.m. EDT in drizzling rain from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, which is nestled among the taiga forests of Russia's north. Half an hour later it hit the Kura testing site, 6000 km (3700 miles) away on the Kamchatka peninsula in the Pacific.http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/081012/world/international_us_russia_missile Total distance from San Fransisco to Richmond Virginia ? 2,882 miles (2882 Mile(s) = 4,638.129408 Kilometre(s) http://maps.google.ca/maps?near=San+fransisco+CA&q=maps&f=p&btnG=Search+Maps In half an hour to hit a target 6,000 km away means that it is traveling at 200 Km's per minute From one end of the US to the other (San Fransisco to Richmond Virginia (4638 Km's rounded to 5000) or 25 minutes from one coast to the other . (This does not take into account that the international waters extent another 200 kms out . Meaning that a Russian missile can now hit the mid west of the US in under 12 minutes from international waters - Russia's sea to air capability http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=71914&sectionid=351020602 From Miami Florida to Bismark North Dakota 2269 miles or 3,587.227 (round up to 4,000 km's ) Hang time including the extra 200 kms into international waters ? (4200 km's) 21 minutes this opens up much of the mid west to attack within 10 minutes from the Caribbean sea Coastal areas up to 800 kms inland can now be hit 800 plus 200 =1,000) from international waters in about 5 minutes What is the response time between the President being told the President giving the order and the launch ? Of course no one knows - and those that do won't say But the value of a sneak attack becomes clear from the Russian perspective I have listed the midwest States because they are the furthest away the hardest to hit and the majority of the US's response to a nuclear attack All that would be left - after a Russian nuclear attack is a submarine fleet (several ) with no command structure and no communication The satellites would have to be taken out at the same time the sneak attack was launched more

Resolved Question: did you see the proff palin was right about russin planes near alaska?

News > World Russian flights smack of Cold War U.S. fighters ID bombers near Alaska Rowan Scarborough (Contact) Thursday, June 26, 2008 Comment Print Listen Font Size Share Got a Question? You Report Russian bombers have stepped up provocative flight exercises off the Alaskan coast, reminiscent of Cold War incursions designed to rattle U.S. air defenses. U.S. Northern Command, which protects North American airspace, told The Washington Times that TU-95 Bear bombers on 18 occasions the past year have skirted a 12-mile air defense identification zone that protects Alaska. The incursions prompted F-15s and F-22 Raptor fighters to scramble from Elmendorf Air Force Base and intercept the warplanes. The last incident happened in May. The venerable propeller-driven TU-95 came to symbolize the Cold War, as did its counterpart, the U.S. B-52 Stratofortress. "They have flown close enough to deem it necessary to ID and monitor them," said Maj. Allen Herritage, a base spokesman. "They come. We ID. We go back to our base. They go back to their base." Elmendorf is headquarters for the Alaskan region of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Air defense identification zones are military boundaries designed to guard the U.S. and Canada against attack. To enter the zones legally, pilots must file flight plans with air controllers. Russian bombers do not file flight plans, so U.S. and Canadian jets are required to scramble to identify the planes and warn them away from the area. "They have not been filing a flight plan and that is the problem," Maj. Herritage said. Moscow's sophisticated show of force has some in the Pentagon paying more attention to the long-term goals of a Russian military, which is being rebuilt with proceeds from the country's huge oil and gas revenues. NORAD is more sensitive than ever to wayward aircraft, given the Sept. 11 attacks by hijackers and the lack of military coordination at the time to track, and perhaps destroy, the planes. Adm. Michael G. Mullen, the Joint Chiefs chairman, talked on Monday of "the challenges we have with a resurgent Russia" while addressing Pentagon workers at a town-hall-style meeting. Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr., chief of NorthCom, said earlier this month that "I think the Russians are not a near-term military threat," while noting they had "renewed" military flights over the polar region. This is the route U.S. or Russian bombers would travel to bomb the other's country. "I think we do have to make sure, you know, post-9/11 world, that we never let an unidentified aircraft come into our airspace, and that we determine who they are and what they're doing, and if it is a Russian aircraft on a training mission, we allow them to continue to do their job," Gen. Renuart said on WUSA-TV's "This Week in Defense News." Although Gen. Renuart downplayed the incursions, other air-power authorities said Vladimir Putin, as Russian president, began flexing his military's muscle last year as a message to Washington. "Putin is trying to get the military rejuvenated and trying to show they are a military power," said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas G. McInerney, who commanded NORAD's Alaska region. "He's doing it for a whole host of things. It's really muscle-flexing." When told that 18 Russian incursions had been reported in 12 months, Mr. McInerney said, "That's a lot." Mr. Putin, who relinquished the presidency in May and is now prime minister, has been at odds with President Bush over NATO expansion and the invasion of Iraq. At times, he has made strong anti-U.S. statements that stirred Cold War memories. A NorthCom statement to The Times said, "Russia has indicated in open press reporting its intention to proceed with navigation and operational training." Mr. McInerney said the incursions are the most sophisticated since the Cold War. He made the assessment based on an Air Force briefing he received last fall at Elmendorf. Agence France-Presse/Getty Images PUSHING IT: A U.S. warplane (right) intercepts a TU-95 Bear, a Russian plane commonly used during the Cold War, in February. The American plane escorted the bomber away from a carrier south of Japan after the Russian plane came threateningly close. The retired general called the exercises "coordinated attacks coming into our air defense identification zone. They are very sophisticated attack training maneuvers. These incursions are far more sophisticated than anything we had seen before." He said the Russian army air force is launching Bear bombers from Tiksi on the Arctic Ocean and Anadyr in Siberia. They are flying against the air defense identification zone from both the polar caps and from the south. The Air Force statement said it has "monitored Russian aircraft taking off from a variety of air bases across their country THE POINT IS MR. Resolved Question: Do you agree that these four issues should be addressed in the Presidential debates?

"Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must cease the war propaganda, threats of a blockade and plans for attacks on Iran, nor should we re-ignite the cold war with Russia over Georgia. We must be willing to talk to all countries and offer friendship and trade and travel to all who are willing. We must take off the table the threat of a nuclear first strike against all nations. Privacy: We must protect the privacy and civil liberties of all persons under US jurisdiction. We must repeal or radically change the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA legislation. We must reject the notion and practice of torture, eliminations of habeas corpus, secret tribunals, and secret prisons. We must deny immunity for corporations that spy willingly on the people for the benefit of the government. We must reject the unitary presidency, the illegal use of signing statements and excessive use of executive orders. The National Debt: We believe that there should be no increase in the national debt. The burden of debt placed on the next generation is unjust and already threatening our economy and the value of our dollar. We must pay our bills as we go along and not unfairly place this burden on a future generation. The Federal Reserve: We seek a thorough investigation, evaluation and audit of the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationships with the banking, corporate, and other financial institutions. The arbitrary power to create money and credit out of thin air behind closed doors for the benefit of commercial interests must be ended. There should be no taxpayer bailouts of corporations and no corporate subsidies. Corporations should be aggressively prosecuted for their crimes and frauds. The two major parties are not addressing these issues because they don't want to disturb special interests. Yet all of the sizable third parties agree that these issues are of paramount importance, regardless of whatever other issues they may disagree on. Ron Paul put this statement of issues together, but Nader, McKinney and Baldwin (as well as Jay of the Boston Tea Party) agree to them. Why are we rationing debate access so we never get our issues addressed?Serenely Someone - truly a beautiful thought! more

Resolved Question: Moving like a Mongol: What is the best way to get around Russia?

I am planning a long trip to explore Russia and the rest of Central Asia and I need some advice. I want to pretty much travel the expanse of Russia, starting in Murmansk heading south through some of the major cities to Kazakhstan and then through central Russia and Mongolia, ultimately ending in Vladivostok. I had trains in mind, but would economy air travel be better, and is it possible (or advisable) to rent a car and drive, or would that be a very bad idea? I want to stay off the beaten path for the most part and visit Russian towns that are not so well-known. This would take place over the summer. Is it possible to make that kind of journey in 3 months time? I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has done something simillar or who is familliar with travel inside the former Soviet Union. Can you rent cars? more

Resolved Question: Wow...what next? Will the U.S. have more problems than it can handle?

U.S. Criticizes China Over Missile Test By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer 2 hours ago WASHINGTON - The United States criticized China on Thursday for conducting an anti-satellite weapons test in which an old Chinese weather satellite was destroyed by a missile. The Bush administration has kept a lid on the test for more than a week as it weighs its significance. Analysts said China's weather satellites would travel at about the same altitude as U.S. spy satellites, so the test represented an indirect threat to U.S. defense systems. "The United States believes China's development and testing of such weapons is inconsistent with the spirit of cooperation that both countries aspire to in the civil space area," National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. "We and other countries have expressed our concern to the Chinese." In his annual threat address to Congress, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Lt. Gen. Michael Maples, said last week that China and Russia are the "primary states of concern" regarding military space programs. "Several countries continue to develop capabilities that have the potential to threaten U.S. space assets, and some have already deployed systems with inherent anti-satellite capabilities, such as satellite-tracking laser range-finding devices and nuclear-armed ballistic missiles," he said in his written testimony on Jan. 11, the same day China's test was conducted. The test, first reported by Aviation Week, destroyed the satellite by hitting it with a kinetic kill vehicle launched aboard a ballistic missile. In October, President Bush signed an order asserting the United States' right to deny adversaries access to space for hostile purposes. As part of the first revision of U.S. space policy in nearly 10 years, the policy also said the United States would oppose the development of treaties or other restrictions that seek to prohibit or limit U.S. access to or use of space. "Freedom of action in space is as important to the United States as air power and sea power," the policy said. "In order to increase knowledge, discovery, economic prosperity and to enhance the national security, the United States must have robust, effective and efficient space capabilities." Precisely what drove China to act now remains a mystery. But the United States has to figure out how to respond, said John Pike, a satellite expert at globalsecurity.org. Since the mid-1980s, the United States has had the ability to take down satellites, but the Chinese don't have satellites worth attacking, Pike said. The United States may have to develop alternatives to its current spy satellites _ perhaps stealthy satellites or unmanned aerial vehicles, which are harder to detect than the current well-established U.S. satellite network. Reconnaissance satellites in low-Earth orbit _ "eyes in the sky" _ are essential to how the United States fights wars. "Our space assets are the first asset on the scene," Pike said. "They are absolutely central to why we are a superpower _ a signature component to America's style of warfare." The Defense Department declined to comment on the test. Adm. William Fallon, the chief of U.S. Pacific Command, has spearheaded a major push to revive exchanges with the Chinese military. Ties soured after a U.S. spy plane collided with a Chinese fighter plane in 2001. Fallon has pushed ahead with the program, despite criticism inside the Pentagon. He believes that Chinese and U.S. officers need to understand each another better to avoid disastrous miscalculations. Bush nominated Fallon this month to take over command of troops in the Middle East. ___ AP White House Correspondent Terence Hunt contributed to this report. more

Resolved Question: Swiss Air international ticket exchange?

I have purchased through Expedia a round-trip ticket to Russia by Swiss Air. In the link I found out that the ticket is non-refundable and changes are not permitted before depurture, and if I do not depart in time, I cannot use the return part either. I heard that according to IATA, if I ask to exchange the ticket to the more expensive one as long as I stay within the frame of traveling dates according to the old ticket, the company still has to honor the portion paid for the old ticket, so I pay only the difference betwin the old and the new one. Can anybody please tell me where can I find the rules and regulations describing this particular case? more
