Air Guide Travel Questions asked

Resolved Question: Is the summer heat in Dallas bearable (swedish family visiting)?

So my dad has a business meeting next week in Dallas and my mother, my two brothers and I are also going since we are on holiday and have only been once in the US (New York in 2007). We are arriving this Saturday 21st of August and staying till Thursday 2nd of September and are all very much looking forward to the visit and might rent a car and also travel a bit around Texas. Yet what scares me is that I read a lot about the unbearable summer heat in Dallas and even our guide advises to avoid June, July and August! Since we are from Sweden, where it snows almost half of the year, we are not used to extremely hot weather. Therefore I am a bit worried if my family and I can bear the heat and if we can even do any long trips outside the hotel. So how hot does it really get in Dallas in August? Is the heat still bearable? Are long car trips during the day even possible? And do all hotels, shopping centers etc. have air-conditioning? P.S. I don't want to sound ignorant but being from northern europe I really have no idea! Thanks for your answers and excuse my not so good english =) more

Resolved Question: Military Dependent Travel to the UK?

I am in the active duty US Air Force and am about to PCS to my first base, RAF Mildenhall in the UK. My wife won't have her visa in time to leave with me to the base. However, I heard of the foreign clearance guide and she may be able to travel with me with her civilian passport as long as she gets a SOFA card. Is this possible or will we have to wait for her visa? I tried to get onto the foreign clearance guide but my request for a username and password has not been answered. Please help! I don't want to leave my wife while I go to the UK. more

Resolved Question: Burning question on aircraft saftey..?

Now my friend here is a qantas enginer..he is responsible for every use by date and wear and tear of every conciviable part of the plane... I put foward to him why does the aircraft industry, not just build a saftey capsule that can float and is self sufficent on pressured oxygen and can act like a bouncing ball as to not get lodged or break up on landing or atmospheric turbulance such as ,hurricanes and lighting and hail.. with a parachute device that can be deployed for a guided landing. I realize the main objective for airlines is to get as many bums on seats as cheap and safley ,as possible on any given day,and to derive asubsatntial profit for that practice 365 days a year.. BUT surley for those who say it would not be viable to build or sustain or be profitable as on going bussines concern..I SAY to them there material to build such saftey device is there , these days the exco skeleton of plane would be cheaper to produce as the main expense would be concentrated with in the capsule,,and other saftey feature would be passengers would fly seperatley from cargo and and passengers would only carry an over nite bag with them and obtain clothes via the sale of main ticket at the destination of any airport .and on return these close can be put foward on cargo planes.making it the priority for the capsules to be free of any clutter other than the human body and essential supplys ,such as fisrt aid and survival packs..My friend supprised me and he sai amzingly that was the first question i asked my self,as maintance engnieer,,,and he was answered. then many people would have no job... well I KNOW ONE THING jobs can be re- created...insurances can charge more on ur saftey rather than ur demise.we have the means of the super higway of comunication to advertise ..do bussines from a stroke of a finger and not depend others to get things done for us...no long is there a comuincation interfernce with the airwaves ..to endanger lives and the flying of the airplane in a saftey mode.. THE TRUTH is that the current shape and idea of flying is very very very old the whole concept has to be re desingned and re calabrated not as a sausge with jets or properlers.but as a self genrated disk or oval shaped derigiable...and another thing.... it seems the only education in piloting the skys is the art of the BENELI effect ..surley there must be other ways of piloting space and atmosheric presures..? so i would like to know what ur views on this is... are we going to ply suasgages for the next 50 years or procced to a new concept of air travel and its saftey for its passangers....? more

Resolved Question: I'm going on a holiday to North Korea?

I'm planning on a holiday to North Korea, and would like travel advice. I'm flying Air Koryo, but will first be flying Air China to Beijing, and will be staying there for three days. What things can I do in Beijing? I wouldn't like to do a lot of walking because I wouldn't want to be exhausted for my journey, so that means no Great Wall. When I get to North Korea, I'll be following a guided tour, so that's fine. I'm mainly asking what's to do in Beijing? more

Resolved Question: how does it does it sound..for a first page of a BOOK?

As I hurriedly stuffed in more articles into my handbag, I took a quick glance at the clock hung over my bed where my luggage lay, some packed, and few yet to go. It was 8pm and the flight was scheduled for 12am.If all was to go right, I had to be at the airport 3hours prior to boarding (as per international airline rules) and here I was still stuck at home with a 1001 things running at the back of my mind , my mother constantly giving me tips, guidelines , a list of what to do and what not and across the hall, stood my dad, who gave a serious look at me, screaming silently about my undisciplined character and the unnecessary delayed being caused thereby. Fifteen minutes later, the luggage was loaded in the boot, and my family of four- my parents, and my younger brother , seated themselves in the car. It was a 45 minute drive to the airport, situated away from the main city. Initially, there was an unusual silence in the car, the English FM playing some light music and the RJ entertaining us to some jokes but soon enough it was mom, who enlightened the atmosphere back with her list of tips, guidelines etc. in midst of all the hush-a-hush dad dedicated all his concentration to driving but occasionally gave ears to mom’s lecture and passes on a smirk behind to me. We reached at the airport where I was joined by my best friend , a companion for the next few days who had arrived at the airport few minutes before us. I greeted her with a warm teddy bear hug to make up for the time I’d kept her waiting. All of us moved inside , which never seemed calm and composed even at this time of the day on a regular weekday. Passengers busy with the airport formalities, the officials storming from one side to another in case of passenger emergencies, and not to forget the well dressed, smart cabin crew that pass by us every time a flight departure is announced. No wonder, the Dubai International Airport, situated in the United Arab Emirates is ranked as one of the busiest airports on planet Earth. Both of us cleared all the airport travel procedures, got hold of our boarding passes issued by the handsome lean official at the Airline ticket counter. Moving towards are respective families , which had now engaged in a conversation in our absence, we passed on huge hugs to them , bid them goodbyes, not to escape the hideous tears from both our mothers, that created an air of nostalgia. A final wave, and we passed through our immigration procedures, final security check and zoomed into the duty free shop. We did an hour of window shopping and finally I picked up some Swiss chocolates, that were always my favourites, while my friend picked up a novel ‘The Last Lear’ . Terminal 3 awaited our presence to clear out few last min checks, and after which we were guided into the airport bus, to take us to our plane, that stood as majestic even in the dim hours of night , all set to greet its passengers . My friend stepped in first , followed by me and sat in our respective seats, that were adjacent to each other. Although , I was a great fan of window seats in airplanes, I happily allowed my friend to take it, maybe because I had loads of beautiful things that I was already imagining and thinking, that were way above the happiness I receive sitting next to the window . The plane was half empty imparting comfort of its own, creating a peaceful and calm ambience , which was quite an unusual scene on the contrary. We were greeted by refreshments by the air hostess and now, who was the sight of our eyes as both of us couldn’t distract ourselves off the lady’s beauty or rather make up. It still wonders me! Now Followed by the pilot’s welcome note , it now signaled us that we were to fly any moment from now. We performed a silent prayer to seek in God’s blessings and our loved one’s wishes before embarking this journey as in to remove or atleast subsidise that little fear embedded deep inside because of the recent air crashes, making one wonder about the safety about air travel. Deep above in the head , were a lot of doubts, and questions and deep within the heart I was excited about finally living my dream as a child, waiting to smell the air , touch the indigenous soil, soothen the eyes to see exotic nature, encounter cultures and traditions and a lot unseen, untold, eagerly waiting for its two little princesses to enter its royal territory and discover. It all seemed, paying homage to the beautiful land as humble devotees. Seatbelts-TIGHTENED , cell phones-SWITCHED OFF, windows-RISEN, engine-ROARING and wings-ALL SET TO FLY! Yes, me and my friend had boarded flight EK234 at 11pm on the first weekday of the month of July to embark a beautiful, exotic, exciting maiden journey to incredible INDIA, as travelers never before. more

Resolved Question: How to promote training courses on survival in the Amazon, a river cruiser and a travel agency in Internet?

I need to promote four (4) specialized products and I require advice from people with experience in online marketing and those people that are responsible for the area of promotion, marketing or sales of travel agencies and tourism companies that offer survival courses and cruises. This company is located in Iquitos, an exotic city in the middle of the Peruvian Amazon, one of the least explored and most bio-diverse area in the world. The products I have to help to promote are: 1. Training courses on survival in the Amazon jungle, for companies or adventure travelers. 2. Visits to remote indigenous communities that preserve their customs, for anyone interested. 3. Research or study trips in the Peruvian Amazon, for researchers, students and anyone interested. 4. Travel by river cruises along the Amazon river and tributaries or cruises in Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (the largest reserve in the floodable Amazon jungle in South America). These are quality products. The company respect and teach the travelers to respect the nature. They take medical help or supplies to river communities and indigenous tribes they visit. Trips are designed to understand the nature and their ecosystems. This company works with professional and specialized staff as naturalists and, in case of survival training courses, with instructors of the Air Force. The company weakness is the international promotion and that is my challenge. I have had successful experiences in promoting hotels. But I never promoted this type of product. Therefore, I have several questions: A. Where or in what ways should I promote these four products? B. What websites, especially free of charge, you known to promote these products? In hotels, for example, there are sites like Tripadvisor and others. C. Do you know websites and forums that are focused on "selling" the four travel products I have? D. What social networks focused on these products are available? I know that there are Facebook, Twiter, Flirck, but, do you know any social network for adventure travelers or interested in this kind of trips? E. I was considering using the Lonely Planet, Viajeros and Losviajeros forums. Do you know others forums or specialized forums? Regardless of language. F. Does anyone could help me with the contact details of publishers of travel guides (Lonely, Frommers, Footprints, etc.)? G. I was thinking in contact with TV and film producers or film makers to promote the services of the company and be a strategic partners for films in the Amazon. Where and how I may contact with big producers companies as Discovery, NatGeo, BBC, etc., and with small producers? Do you have any other recommendation? more

Resolved Question: Do you happen to know this animated 90's movie?

I remember somewhere back in the 90's I still watched cartoons.I've been wanting to see an animated movie for quite a while, it influenced me so much, I just cannot remember the name, I've looked everywhere I could (even on all aired animation movies). The movie was very similar to "The Pagemaster", the main character was very similar and it started with real scenes, after which, it all turned animation. The plot summary from what I recall, was about a boy who was bored with school and everything, and during a telephone conversation with a friend of his, he mysteriously receives a red-white box.He hangs up, opens the box and discovers it to be some sort of booth towards and adventure land. After the boy steps in the box, everything turns animated. I do recall he had a dog as both friend and guide to the land of adventure, the whole idea of the movie relies in the fact that during his travels he encounters numerous funny adventures, and sets an objective to destroy some sort of land of boredom and uselessness. The movie ends once again with a couple of real (non-animated) scenes. I apologize, I know this whole question sounds silly, but I so want to see that movie again.I've looked everywhere, maybe one of you guys has any idea, I would absolutely be forever thankful. more

Resolved Question: homework: Index of refraction?

The index of refraction, n, of a material medium describes how fast light travels through that medium in relation to the speed of light in vacuum. That is n = c / v, where c is the speed of light in vacuum (3.0 x 108 m/s) and v is the speed of light in the medium. With this definition, the refractive index of vacuum is nvac = 1. Since the speed of light is slower in a material medium, the index of refraction for any material is always a number greater than 1. Although the speed of light changes as it goes from one medium to another, the frequency of the light remain unchanged. As a result, the wavelength of light therefore changes as it goes from one medium to another. (a) The index of refraction of a certain type of glass is 1.53. What is the speed of light in this type of glass? vglass = m/s 459000000 NO Work: 610nm(.00000061m) 300000000/.00000061= 49....... (b) If a certain light source emits monochromatic light having a wavelength of 450 nm in vacuum, what is the wavelength of this light in this type of glass? (Recall that 1 nm = 10-9 m.) λglass = nm (c) The speed of light in water 75 % the speed of light in vacuum. What is speed of light in water and what is the index of refraction of water? vwater = m/s nwater = (d) Using the same light source as in Part (b), what is the wavelength of this light in water? λwater = nm (e) The speed of light in air at atmospheric pressure is 99.971 % the speed of light in vacuum. Resolved Question: Another Science Guide help?!?!Please?

1.) Why doesn't sound travel through a vacuum? Sound is a waveform in matter, and there is no matter in a vacuum Vacuums absorb most of the sound It does travel in space, as verified on Star Trek 2.) How do you make sounds from your vocal chords? Vocal chords act like tiny loudspeakers, vibrating and forcing sound out your mouth Air from your lungs passes over the vibrating vocal chords, making sound It is a myth that your sound comes from vocal chords; it comes from your chest 3.) What happens when you blow across the top of a bottle? The top of the bottle gets cold, making a squeaking sound Air starts to circulate and vibrate in the bottle, making a sound You must blow into the bottle for anything to happen 4.) What would the beat frequency be if you added tones of 880 Hz and 882 Hz? 2 Hz 881 Hz 1762 HZ 5.) Why can’t you hear an echo from a curved wall? The dampen moss jacketing the earth, dwelling on dead elms and climbing the trees; clings to rocks of fossil assessment. The faint smell of freshness on the breeze, a song of Spring sprout in budding leaves. The dawn is full with a taste of glee. The voice of crickets hiding within the blades of grass dripping morning dew. The sky painted in shades of pastel, still waking to greet a sunrise new, as the light colors fade into blue. This set had an essence, this I knew. Of bended knee to trickling sight, to observe as the spring water flow, it moved swift like the rush of the wind; over each rock caused an undertow. A life of its own is all it knows- tranquility is what it bestows. The trees that mingled of soft sun rays captured to the purity I found. Bringing clarity to this witness, as heard from the brook is balanced sound- a symphony to surround the untouched wilderness of this ground. Near off the distance a field of aged straw bordered by the heights of evergreen. This secret place seems so far from there; protected by ferns banking to lean, where this peaceful brook lives barely seen, yet the majesty it holds is keen. Black-eyed Susan’s and daisies cluster in a territory where the pastures show. The woodland creatures scurry about at the arrival of fawns and does; plenty of room for them all to stow in that field where the harvest wheat grow. Lifting foot to follow its path down, stirring the perched bird to take of flight, in umbrella by the limbs above watching feathered wings disappear by sight. To be in this realm was a delight- outer the world of society’s plight. Stately oaks home next to maples tall, weeping willows swing amongst air. The scenery embarks to transform. Alongside this brook to who knows where? A mystery to discover there, traveling the path the water bare. This quaint brook side passage tells a tale, as seen on slopes to where water runs. Frogs in leaping and lilies growing, vision in glow of cascading sun. All of nature together as one bask and revel to what time has done. Descending on natures slated steps; two hands to pull back the thickened brush. Roped hanging vines clutter the prospect, foliage on the trail way very lush. The noise of the brook begins to gush, as looking over to watch it rush. Growing wider with a steady stream; speculating still, as where it guide? From the mountain top to a ravine uncovered the vision of my eyes, revealing the splendor the water hides- the brook was a waterfall disguised. The water spraying like summer rain, it poured from the top into a band. Serenity in this crystal pool, a true creation of the Lord’s hands, and in the charisma of this land all the environment took a stand. Founded by walk from a rivulet, a hidden palace mannered untamed. Breathing in the paradise of life is purity holding heaven’s name. Never to find a fountain the same, from a small brook side is where it came. Dana Morales I took the rhythm from one of Poe's poems, using A,B,C,B,B,B It's 14 stanzas long. I hope you all enjoyed the journey. more

Resolved Question: Why do few homes have central heating in Britain? Or, is that a complete lie?

I read in a travel guide that few home have central heating or 'forced air' ventilation in the UK. Maybe that is because people have fireplaces, space heaters, or something like that. Were the houses simply built that way, older homes?I just knew it! That travel guide never mentioned the discrete radiators. British houses have heat, indeed.I would imagine that heat from a boiler would add moisture the atmosphere in the home as well. This is good, especially in dry cold weather, helps the skin stay conditioned. more

Resolved Question: Athiests: What would you do if God spoke to you and asked you to build an Ark?

I'm not religious, I'm just curious what you would do if you heard a voice in your head telling you the earth would soon be flooded, and that you had to build a big boat to save all the animals. Maybe throw in a miracle such as an angel appearing out of thin air. Is there anything that could make you believe in God? Say maybe God taking you on a personal guided tour of Heaven and Hell, or explaining the physics of time travel or something?Lol, yes a psychiatrist or psychologist would probably be my first choice too, or maybe getting a test to see if I ingested anything hallucinogenic. The tour of Heaven and Hell would probably convince me. The boat idea wouldn't make any sense though, so I'd assume I was hallucinating. more

Resolved Question: Bleach FANS Question: What kind of Zampakuto you want?

Hello, if you want a zampakto, what would be the name and the effects. It can be a Soul Reapers or an Arrancar’s zampakto. Please include the Spanish or Japanese name and its translation. Also for those who choose a Soul Reaper’s zampakto please include what your spirit would look like. Here is mine for example Arrancar – the sword’s sealed form takes the appearance of a standard Chinese Jian. Deidad informe - Formless Deity, release command – Help guide this world Effects 1. Anything the user wishes shall come true 2. The user is allowed to temporally re-write the laws of reality 3. All death of the owner and his allies can become an illusion.- its like Izanagi from Naruto 4. The user is able to travel through space and time 5. The user gains limitless spirit energy by absorbing energy found in the air- like a bount but no human souls involved. Segunda Estapa- The user gains the ability to summon heroic Spirits of the Past, (if you seen Fate/Stay night you would know what I mean), addition each enemy killed by the owner, the enemies energy is absorbed into the owner’s own spiritual energy ( it is somewhat similar to Kurei’s flame technique from the anime/manga Flame of Recca. There you go, also if you can, tell me, what do you think of my sword.I forgot to add this earlier- the release is a form that has no physical form, basically in invisible force, Segunda Estapa- the owner gains one white and black wing. more

Resolved Question: 1997 GMC Jimmy V6 Vortec Engine Bogging..?

I'm having an issue with my vehicle that I was hoping that someone might be able to guide me on how and what to start looking for. If I accelerate hard from a dead stand still, the truck still has a great deal of pick up and go, but not as much punch as it did a few years back. Around 90 - 100kph the truck feels like it's stuttering on the highway... Example, (Accelerate) (Decelerate) all rather quickly. I can end up traveling a distance and not have it happen, and sometimes it happens frequently. It seems totally random, but mostly happens after it’s warmed up. I’m suspecting it’s not burning the fuel properly due to high hydrocarbon reading from my emissions test. I’ve replaced, the PCV Valve, Air filter, and EGR Valve. I have no engine warning lights coming on and I know they do work. Could some one please help me determine what may be causing this? PVC filter and Air Filter done less than a month ago, and the EGR Valve has been done 3 Years ago. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Jim.. PS.. .Also, how can I check to see if an Electronic EGR Valve is actually working. more

Resolved Question: Can one travel to Costa Rica without the use of packaged tours?

My wife and I are planning a 10 day trip to Costa Rica with our 18 month son. We have traveled but never done any of those packaged tours as we find them a bit restricting to what they want you to see and do. Most of what I see online for Costa Rica is referenced to packaged tours. Can one just buy air tickets, book hotels, rent a car, grab a good guide book (The New Key to Costa Rica) and be able to find canopy tours or other activities on their own once they arrive in Costa Rica? Or is it better to go with a packaged tour to ease the travel with an infant/toddler? We’d like to spend a few days each at Arenal, Monteverde and Caribbean coast (may be Limon/Tortuguero). more

Resolved Question: projectile physics problem!!!!!!!!?

an enemy ship is on the west side of the mountain island. the enemy ship has maneuvered to within 2500m of the 1800m high mountain peak and can shoot projectiles with an initial speed of 250m/s. 1. if the eastern shoreline is horizontally 300m from the peak, where are the distances from the eastern shore at which the ship can be from the bombardment of the enemy ship? the answer is: safe distances are less than 270m and greater than 3480 m from the western shore. Can someone please guide me through the calculation? I'm lost! 2. a science student is riding on the flatcar of a train traveling along a straight horizontal track at a constant speed of 10m/s. the student throws a ball into the air along a path that he judges to make an initial angle of 60 degree with the horizontal and to be in line with the track. the student's professor who is standing on the ground nearby, observes the ball to rise vertically. how high does she see the ball rise? the answer is 15.3m THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! ^^ more

Resolved Question: How is my college essay? Am i finished?

I am in the process of finalizing my main college application essay. Any criticisms of it or suggestions for it would greatly be appreciated. Thank you What qualities make a good leader? Is it pragmatism? Conviction? Communication? Dedication? I cannot say for sure which of these qualities are the most crucial of a leader but I do know when a leader is poor. Last year, on January 20, 2009 I was given the privilege to travel to Washington, D.C. to see the President’s inauguration. The trip was planned for over a year to see the peaceful passing of Presidential power and the renewal of our government. Millions of people descended on the mall in Washington, D.C., along with fifty students from Ewing High School, to witness the historical occasion. As a part of our tour of the Nation’s Capital, the school hired a tour guide, a very tiny woman carrying a purple and blue striped umbrella. It was her job on the day of the Inauguration to take us from our bus on 2nd St SE to the National Mall, and safely return us to the location, but on our way back the crowds overwhelmed her. She was lost in the sea of people and the only part of her our group could see was the top of her umbrella. This is where I stepped in. I had never been to Washington before, but I knew that we were going the wrong way. On our way there, I noted numerous distinct buildings and maintained my sense of direction. I told the woman I knew how to get us back to the bus and took the umbrella from her hand. Holding the umbrella high in the air, I began to push my way through the pedestrian traffic that blocked the intersection of D St SW and 3rd St SW. I led our group to the Bartholdi Fountain, feeling like a salmon swimming upstream. Once there, I waited for all fifty of us to reassemble, so that I could notify the rest of my classmates we were heading in the right direction and we would be out of the bitter cold in no time. The warmth of our luxury bus would soon end our two-hour ordeal. This was not an isolated incident, but typical for my experiences to date. Like in Washington, I don’t always start out as the leader; I just seem to end up in that role. Just like in Washington, I usually start out as a member of a group, but due to circumstances I end up in a position of leadership. This might be because the approach I have to school is also the approach I take in life. I have learned that before I speak and draw attention to myself to take the time to survey a situation, considering as many possibilities as I can and then present a logical solution to the problem. I always remain flexible and pragmatic and if someone else has a better idea, I am quick to go with their solution. I am very comfortable in leadership positions and leading has become second nature. When situations seem impossible and times are tough, I am inspired. Rather than becoming frightened when obstacles stand in my path, I am driven to overcome them. As a Peer Leader, the President of National Honor Society, the Key Club, and the Class of 2010, as well as captain of the varsity soccer team, my skills as a leader have only begun develop and I hope to refine and improve them so I may continue to conquer and surmount tests and endeavors to come. Whether it is leading a Key Club meeting, acting as a role model for freshmen in the hallway, or leading a large group through the streets of Washington D.C. with only a purple umbrella, I am always trying to make my way through the crowd to reach my goals and help others reach theirs. more

Millions of people descended on the mall in Washington, D.C., along with fifty students from Ewing High School, to witness the historical occasion. As a part of our tour of the Nation’s Capitol, the school hired a tour guide, a very tiny woman carrying a purple and blue striped umbrella. It was her job on the day of the Inauguration to take us from our bus on 2nd St SE to the National Mall, and safely return us to the location, but on our way back the crowds overwhelmed her. She was lost in the see of people and the only part of her our group could see was the top of her umbrella. This is where I stepped in. I had never been to Washington before, but I knew that we were going the wrong way. On our way there, I noted numerous distinct buildings and maintained my sense of direction. I told the woman I knew how to get us back to the bus and took the umbrella from her hand. Holding the umbrella high in the air, I began to push my way through pedestrian traffic that blocked the intersection of D St SW and 3rd St SW. I lead our group to the Bartholdi Fountain, feeling like a salmon swimming upstream. Once there, I waited for all fifty of us to reassemble, so that I could notify the rest of my classmates we were heading in the right direction and we would be out of the bitter cold in no time. The warmth of our luxury bus would soon end our two-hour ordeal. This is not the only situation that I have found myself assuming the role of leader. As a Peer Leader, the President of National Honor Society, the Key Club, and the Class of 2010, as well as captain of the varsity soccer team, I am a leader every day. I may not have the highest grade in my AP Calculus class or be the best defender in the state, but I considered myself a great leader. Whether it is leading a Key Club meeting, acting as a role model for freshmen in the hallway, or leading a large group through the streets of Washington D.C. with only a purple umbrella, I lead confidently and intelligently every day. My high school journey as a leader is not the end, rather my development as a leader has only begun so that I may continue to conquer and surmount tests and endeavors to come. more

Resolved Question: Can sound guide an unmanned sub?

I have been playing around with building an underwater ROV and the tether just seems like a whole lot of trouble. I know that radio signals don't travel very far under water but sound moves much faster under water than through air. Could a system be designed that transmits commands to the ROV and (here's the hard part) video images back from it using sound transducers and microphones? more

Resolved Question: How Could Regime Change in Iran Best Be Accomplished?

Is it Time for Regime Change in Iran -- and, if so, How Best to do it? Here are some options: 1. Complete cutoff of all trade between USA and Iran (like the Embargo with Cuba). Of particular significance would be parts for oil field replacements. If Iran's oil revenues are cut in half, because of inability to pump, the Regime would be weaker, and more likely to fall. If the priviledged classes in Iran find that they have no easy access to American made pharmaceuticals, they might re-think whether having Ahmadinejad as their leader is really such a great idea. If the Revolutionary Guard and the Army found that they had no easy access to integrated circuits made in USA, they might wonder how long they could protect themselves from their neighbors. Same with filters, and purification systems, and chemicals of military usefulness. 2. The deportation of all non-US-citizen Iranians from USA. This would include the Iranian Ambassador and all Iranian delegations to the World Bank, the UN, or any other organization. They are all Persona Non Grata -- 10 days to get on a plane and be gone from US soil. 3. All bank accounts linked to any terror-related organization in Iran frozen and impounded. 4. All electronic or telephonic communications originating in Iran and coming to the USA monitored. 5. All Iranian flagged vessels kept out of US waters, and not qualified to be insured by US based companies. 6. All US citizens warned that their passports no longer are valid for travel to or from Iran. 7. All businesses in USA with ties to Iran monitored and scrutinized. 8. Strong diplomatic efforts to nations friendly to USA to adopt similar measures. 9. Loans to the Israeli Air Force of tactical ordnance and platforms required to deliver it, plus spare parts, plus upgraded black boxes to make airborne platforms more stealthy and better able to precisely release satellite guided glide bombs, including bunker busters. 10. Efforts by the Treasury and the Federal Reserve and CIA, and State Department to de-stabilize Iranian currency on world markets thereby causing financial panic and ruin among many persons in Irans privileged classes. 11. Supply to Israel of non-nuclear but very powerful electro-motive pulse weapons to cause Iran to re-enter the 12th century. 12. Supply to Israel of carbon fibre weapons to eliminate power transmission facilities in Iran and help it re-enter the 12th century. more

Resolved Question: Do you believe what Sylvia Browne says about Heaven?

Paranormal claims Browne says she knows what it is like in heaven. In her book The Other Side and Back, she says the temperature is a constant 78°F (25.6°C), that there are no insects–-unless one wants there to be, that pets go to heaven, and that one can build one's house wherever one wants unless it obscures the view of a river or some trees, in which case one needs permission.[18] She asserts that the "other side" exists approximately three feet above ground level and at a "higher vibrational level" and so is difficult for humans to perceive. However, like other psychics, she claims to have been born able to perceive a wider range of "vibrational frequencies". Browne declares that she can see angels and that they look similar to depictions in paintings, but have different traits depending on their "phylum". She has also claimed that they do not speak. Her granddaughter, who is purportedly psychic, claims to have witnessed the angels that Browne states surround humans.[19] Browne professes the ability to speak with her spirit guide, "Francine," and has given details of fifty-four of her own former lives as divined by her.[20] [edit] Introduction to predictions Wikiquote has a collection of quotations related to: Sylvia Browne Although Browne has made many public predictions, according to James Randi her accuracy rate has been no better than educated guessing.[21] Her predictions include: that Bill Clinton was falsely accused in the Lewinsky scandal (proved incorrect); that George H. W. Bush would defeat Bill Clinton in the 1992 U.S. presidential election (Bush lost); that Bill Bradley would win the 2000 U.S. presidential election with the Reform Party coming in second;[22] the "hiding in caves" of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein (found in a spider hole in the ground); the death of bin Laden (later reported by the Central Intelligence Agency as incorrect); a verdict of guilty in the 2005 child molestation trial of Michael Jackson[23] (Jackson was acquitted); and the cure and prevention of breast cancer by the end of 1999.[24] Janet McDonald, an author of books for young adults, describes her experience receiving a psychic reading via phone, for which she paid Browne $700. Browne predicted a "really long life" for McDonald, who died of cancer at 53 just over four years later.[25][26][27] In 2005 Browne told Newsweek that Larry King, a believer in the paranormal, has asked her to perform private psychic readings.[28] On September 3, 2001, Browne stated on Larry King Live that she would accept the James Randi Educational Foundation's $1,000,000 challenge to demonstrate supernatural abilities in a controlled scientific test.[21][29] As of 2009[update], Browne has claimed that she has found it increasingly difficult to contact the Foundation or respond to Randi's enquiries. A January 2007 episode of Anderson Cooper 360 featured Linda Rossi, Browne's business manager for 35 years, and James Randi. Randi proposed that Browne undergo a test where she would provide readings for ten sympathetic people, each of whom would then identify their own reading among the ten. Rossi declined on Browne's behalf.[30] Of her predictions that might be considered accurate, many are predictions that are easy to make.[citation needed] Examples from her list of predictions for the 21st century include:[22] "Elizabeth Taylor ends up back at the Betty Ford Center"; "Neither Warren Beatty nor Donald Trump has any success in politics"; "Air travel reaches an all-time high, but because of overbookings and poor service, the airlines will need to revamp their scheduling practices". more

Resolved Question: What career should I pursue?

I am currently in year 11 and next month I am having an interview with my future college to discuss what subjects I should choose (it won't be set in stone but it's to give a rough idea). The problem is that I have no idea what career I want and i'm scared that if I pick the wrong options I could be done for. I am interested in English and Art, but I don't think i'd want an art related career. I did think about journalism, but when I did some research I found that it is very competitive and most people in a journalism career don't earn much money at all. The thing I most want to do is to travel but all of the jobs I found that link with travel such as air hostess, tour guide etc. didn't appeal to me. Then I came up with the frankly quite ridiculous yet interesting plan of becoming a kind of travelling waitress (kind of like along came polly) and then settle down when I find a country that I really like, but my mum said it would be a waste of my brains and that I should become a solicitor - but really I cannot think of anything more boring than that... I think i'm just one of those people that doesn't realy fit into a particular career and I would get easily bored. If anyone has any ideas as to what I should do with myself then please put them forward as they will really help, thank you very much I will add some more information on my interests in the additional details if any of you or I think it's needed x more

Resolved Question: Which airline is better, I need some help?

Emirates: http://www.emirates.com/english/ Virgin Atlantic: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/index.jsp?y=12&x=13 It's for either being a Tour Guide or an Air Hostess. A tour guide (or tourist guide) provides assistance, information and cultural, historical and contemporary heritage interpretation to people on organized tours, individual clients, educational establishments, at religious and historical sites and at venues of other significant interest. They (normally) have a recognized national or regional tourist guide qualification. Air Hostesses are members of an aircrew employed by airlines primarily to ensure the safety but also the comfort of passengers aboard commercial flights as well as on select business jet aircraft. I copied and pasted the above, didn’t have time to write my own definitions :-) If you have travelled on either Emirates or Virgin Atlantics airlines, share your experience if you have time and suggest which one would be best for someone like me to work in. Thank you in advance. I hope everyone's doing well, enshallah.By the way, I am an Emiratiya if that helps :-)Hope: Before you jump to conclusions, read my question again. I didn’t say the job was defiantly to become an Air Hostess, but a Tour Guide too. Maybe you should stop finding faults in others and be more positive in your answers.Nazia: Tell me more :-) Are the Cabin Crew impressive?Pious Girl: Barakullah feek, well said sister!Nazia: So you’re a frequent flyer? Mashallah, which countries do you travel to? more

Voting Question: Don't know what kind of career to look for.?

Honestly I'm pretty much fed up with retail and any other low end jobs, I've always hated it. I greatly want a career in which I can be proud of, I hate being broke most of the time and living from check to check. Recently I got fired from Wal-mart which paid pretty ok, about $10.20 an hour. I liked the people but the work was just boring and very uninteresting. Now I work at another retail job that only allows part time, I rent and can barely make it on this budget. I really am not crying and I know that you need to put in hard work to get what you want in life...Although this isn't the problem here...I seriously lack direction and I'm absolutely scared of taking the wrong path, of course this has caused me to basically go no where. I fear if I pick a path and end up not liking it that I will have wasted time. I love to help people and be apart of something important, like an organization(like military or police) but more laid back(those positions have fascinated me). I'm a very laid back person, although jobs I've looked into have been police officer and air force. I quit looking into them because I don't think my personality would fit, I'm sorta spacey but I love to travel and experience new things. I'm a tad bit rebellious and sometimes have problems with authority figures(Don't like to be told what to do) also very stubborn at times, I enjoy working on my own at with projects. I can work as a team but I often find myself frustrated because I like to take control with my own ideas if I feel it isn't to the level it should be. I love being hands on, I'm a very creative person...I've found myself working on different projects for hours and hours, anything that I can design and create. Music is also a big thing for me, I love playing guitar and singing in front of people it has always seemed to click with me and people have said that I should go further with it...but honestly its a scary thing to jump into because its a hard industry to even consider. I'm not the best singer in the world but I have a pretty good voice although I'm very expressive I like to express myself. The way I see it, I would need help and would have to be guided. I like to lead but not in a way to where I'm making the choices, I like to be near the decision maker and be involved deeply. As long as my work keeps me enriched with new experiences, I would be happy. Sorry I tried to throw out as many things as possible to help people better understand my point of view. If anyone has any advice it would be very greatly appreciated. more
