Air Force Travel Agency Questions asked

Voting Question: Why is everyone suddenly so worried about NASA? What's so bad about privatized space travel?

This has happened all through out history. There was a time where only the best of the best were allowed to be Sailors -- after a while that changed and now every big name executive owns a yacht. For a while only the elite were allowed to travel by airplane -- now even the poorest family flies to Fort Lauderdale to some family resort. NASA has been way to restrictive and high brow about who they sent into space and what experiments were performed. It's time for that to change. God created the universe for all of us to see, not a few ultra elite air force pilots to drink tang and study microbes at 25,000 dollars per hour. What do we get out of it? A few images of the floating around and waving hello? Come on... This being 2010 I find that ridiculous. I say let the private companies team up with universities and private research groups to send up teams of scientists, researchers and yes... tourists. This is one of the few things I agree with Obama on. People need to stop using this as a political weapon. NASA space flights are just high priced photo ops and as a huge Space enthusiast I think it needs to stop. NASA should be limited to a search agency. Let them keep their toys and let them keep doing lab experiments up in space. The people should be allowed to participate more in the world of space exploration. more

Resolved Question: Ahh Starbuck you've done it again?

This is what I started and California will take back the state from radical environmentalists. November elections will see a lot of this hoax just disappear and guess what the world will still be here going through its natural processes. Hopefully this will end these radicals reign for a long time. (12-20) 04:00 PST Copenhagen - -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a swarm of California officials came to the U.N. climate summit last week to brag about their state's accomplishments and show foreigners that it is the cutting edge of U.S. action to curb emissions. But like President Obama, they got caught in a train wreck of discord in the 13-day meeting that ended Saturday, as the 193 nations present agreed only to "take note" of a U.S.-brokered, nonbinding statement of intentions that glossed over the world's differences on who should shoulder which responsibilities in the fight against climate change. The diplomatic clash set up a catch-22 for California. The inconclusive results of the climate negotiations have made the state's leadership in climate policy all the more important. California's aggressive actions on auto emission standards, renewable energy, building weatherization and solar panels are encouraging other states and cities in the United States and around the globe to plunge ahead with their own similar policies. But the stalemate in Copenhagen may also increase the political risk in California, where resistance to the state's climate policies is gathering force. "A train wreck always raises concerns," said Sen. Fran Pavley, D-Agoura Hills (Los Angeles County), who wrote the state's landmark climate-change law in 2006 and was one of the state's leaders in Copenhagen. "It fuels the argument that because of the recession we can't move forward," she said. "The opposition has used the recession to try to do a general rollback, and they may do that here with this." Pavley and other state officials worry that failure of the U.N. climate negotiations will embolden opponents who hope to roll back California's climate policies in next year's election. Ballot measure Conservatives, led by Assemblyman Dan Logue, R-Linda (Yuba County), Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Granite Bay (Placer County), and anti-tax advocate Ted Costa, have submitted to the attorney general an initiative for the November ballot that would freeze the state's compliance with its own climate mandate, the 2006 law known as AB32. GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has pledged to suspend compliance with the law immediately if elected. "People who are trying to use AB32 in next year's election will use any negative result out of Copenhagen," said Mary Nichols, chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board, the powerful agency that is drawing up the web of regulations that will enforce the bill. "They already believe they've caught something they can use to get people to the polls." California officials have been traveling to climate summits and other diplomatic venues for several years to boast about their track record. By nearly any standard, their pride is well earned. The state is viewed far and wide as a leader in climate policies such as AB32. In the past year, Schwarzenegger has signed several climate agreements with foreign state, provincial and municipal governments, including: -- An agreement with 10 other states in Brazil, Indonesia and the United States to work jointly to protect tropical forests, possibly creating tradeable offsets for California's cap-and-trade program. -- A partnership with the U.N. Development Program to offer technical assistance to Africa for low-carbon development. -- A partnership with Jiangsu Province in China to share policy know-how and to cooperate on technology. It is the first state-level agreement between China and the United States to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But the crucial phase comes next year, when the air board must release its plans to implement AB32, which is intended to reduce the state's greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. "If this conference does not get a strong agreement, some will say that Copenhagen has failed, that we talk grandly but we are fooling ourselves," and that much like in the fairy tale, the emperor has no clothes, the Republican governor told a news conference Tuesday. "Perhaps the real success is to give us the opportunity to think differently again. Perhaps the success comes in realizing that something different needs to be done and in fact is already being done." Many experts agree. "AB32 is a real leadership issue," said Peter Miller, senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council in San Francisco. "Now that the federal process has slowed, California is more important. It's the same here in Copenhagen. If the forward movement slows, there will be more weight on the sub-national actors." Some studies show that approximately half the overall U.S. emisGreen eggs, they are already out of money. Next year the state will again be short by 21 billion. There is no more help coming, the state will go broke as it should. The average state worker now makes twice as much money as the private sector and the liberals have turned it into a real mess. more

Resolved Question: Momentum- physics (impulse)?

Someone please help me figure this out!! :[ its about the impulse part in momentum). I'm so confused about this chapter.. 1. A 1400 kg car traveling in the positive direction takes 14.0 seconds to slow from 25.0 meters per second to 12.0 meters per second. What is the average force on the car during this time? answer in N 2. A government agency estimated that air bags have saved over 14,000 lives as of April 2004 in the United States. (They also stated that air bags have been confirmed as killing 242 people, and they stress that seat belts are estimated to save 11,000 lives a year.) Assume that a car crashes and has come to a stop when the air bag inflates, causing a 75.0 kg person moving forward at 15.0 m/s to stop moving in 0.0250 seconds. (a) What is the magnitude of the person's impulse? (b) What is the magnitude of the average force the airbag exerts on the person? (a) kg·m/s (b) N 3. For a movie scene, an 85.0 kg stunt double falls 12.0 m from a building onto a large inflated landing pad. After touching the landing pad surface, it takes her 0.480 s to come to a stop. What is the magnitude of the average net force on her as the landing pad stops her? the answer is in N more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my book idea?

Hi, I'm 15 years old and I love writing for a living. I have come up with a book idea, and I feel to best explain the back-ground on it is this: 2009- Now  2037- Moon Colony is Established by efforts of NASA, and European Space Agency.  2040- World Population Reaches 10 billon  2045- Earth’s resources begin to run low  2048- Mining operations are set up on Mars after water and other minerals are found underground  2050- The terraforming process of Mars begins   2060- Moon Colony's population reaches one million, almost near max capacity for the colony, so the colony is expanded.  2070- Mining ops on Mars are even further expanded.  2077- Construction on the massive Earth Space Station begins, meant for civilian and research purposes.  2080- Nearly all of Earth’s resources are exhausted, and most resources come from Mars, the Moon, or the Outer Asteroid Belt.  2120- Space travel is made public after technology advances and cheaper building techniques in spacecraft, including more powerful engines that require even less fuel.  2125- War breaks out between the New Soviet Union, China, and Korea vs. United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Poland, and Spain. The War results in almost total destruction of Oceania, the United Kingdom, and Korea. Germany and France stage an assault on the Soviet Union with the remainder of the British Armed Forces, using Lend-Lease equipment from America.  2127- After nearly two years of occupation, The New Soviet Union surrenders, and has a Government set up by Germany and Poland.  2138- Remembering the horrible World War eleven years ago, European nations set up a federation- which in less than two years, rapidly grows from six nations, to fifty-one nations.  2140- Earth Space Station construction is completed. 2140- The World Alliance, formed in 2138, is renamed to the Earth Republic after the nations involved are conjoined under one unified government, the following armed forces branches renamed to: Earth’s Army, Earth Naval Armada, Earth Air Corps., and Earth Marines Corps.  2155- People from the remnants of The United Kingdom and Oceania set out on July 16th, 2155, for the Asteroid Belt beyond Mars. The Earth Republic hates the idea, but with the influence of a few powerful leaders, sends supplies to help them on the way.  2156- The refugees that set out on July 16th last year arrive on January 28th, which have come to call themselves “Lorgonians”  2158- Successful trade route is set up between Lorgonia and Earth.  2221- The Moon Colony is nearly wiped out by a very large asteroid. 2230- The newest anti-asteroid technology is perfected. Had it been nine years earlier, the old colony would still be there. 2236- The Earth Space Armada is added to the Earth Federation as a military branch, for colonization purposes.  2266- Lorgonia is officially recognized as a super-power, having over eight-thousand square kilometers of land on assorted asteroids, and a population close to 900 million, with it’s capital city, Lorgon, located on the asteroid Ceres. 2355- Terraforming process of Mars is complete to the extent that humans may live on it, however terraforming still resumes, and is scheduled to resume for another century-and-a-half.  2363- Mars Colony is setup by the Earth Space Armada, and rapidly grows from people wishing to get away from the over-populated Earth, with now, 11-billion human beings. Rural areas on Earth are very rare.  2365- Lorgonia asks permission to set-up a colony on Mars and the ESA denies it.  2368- A Large build-up of Lorgonian military ships are observed by ESA reconnaissance.  2369(June, Earth time)- Lorgonia conducts a full scale assault on Mars, for resources, and lands ten Marine divisions on Mars, plus four Army divisions with close-Air support. Lorgonian fleet remains unopposed for two months  2369(August, Earth time)- Two months after Lorgonian siege of Mars, Rear Admiral Kenneth Howard of the ESA gathers a force of twenty Army divisions and nearly 3/4ths of the ESA fleet for counter attack.  2369(September 12th, Earth time) Admiral Howard’s fleet arrives, and encounters heavy resistance. As the ESA lands troops on the surface, a heavy atmospheric battle ensues for over four days. The ESA admits defeat and withdraws into deep space. Howard’s Capital ship, ESA Mjolnir, is heavily damaged, beyond repair, and is abandoned, with the crew’s life pods hitting Arcadia, the landing site for Earth ground troops.  2369(December 24th, Earth time) After four days of heavy fighting in the atmosphere, the ESA fleet is gone and the ground troops are stranded. Among the dead and missing is Admiral Howard. Of the one-hundred-and-thirty-one ESA ships that took part in the assault, eighty-four came out in tact or lightly damaged. Most of the Earth Republic’s ground forces are dead or taken prisoner. A few pockets of resistance still remain. 2370- more

Resolved Question: Is it just "playing politics" with the Obama Birth Certificate?

Seems like if this was Bush, it wouldn't be an issue... Find it amusing that Obama shows proof he was born in Hawaii, and it is never good enough for these right-wingers, when Bush was never questioned by this same group... For example, in regards to desertion from the military of our former president. That was apparently "no big deal." Is quitting and neglecting responsibility becoming synonymous with being a republican now-a-days? Why else would these same conservatives not care that Bush's record was originally not released, and then ultimately "not fully released" when what’s been shown is that he had almost definitely deserted from the military, as Bush missed his last 9 months of service. If your father is not a wealthy Senator at the time, that can hold serious consequences for most of us. From the Air Force guideline: 1.3. When Unauthorized Absence Begins and Ends. An unauthorized absence starts when a member is absent from where he or she is ordered or otherwise required to be present. For an unauthorized absence of 24 consecutive hours or less, classify as “failure to go” instead of “Absence Without Leave” (AWOL). For an unauthorized absence of more than 24 hours and less than 30 days, classify as AWOL. An unauthorized absence ends when the absentee or deserter returns to military control. 1.4. Required Actions. Table 1.1. is a comprehensive list of actions to be taken upon realization of an unauthorized absence. Even if you expect the absence may be excused, immediately take the actions listed in Table 1.1. 1.5. Classify a member as a deserter who: 1.5.1. Has been AWOL for 30 consecutive days. If the absence lasts through 2400 on the 30th consecutive day, change the absentee's status to deserter at 0001 on the 31st day (On the 10th day during times of emergency or war declared by the President or Congress). 1.5.2. Is AWOL for any amount of time and meets any of these criteria: 1.5.2.1. Is under the duty or travel restrictions that DoD 5200.2-R/AFI 31-501 imposes. 1.5.2.2. Has had access in the past 12 months to top secret information or other classified information that requires special access authority (see paragraph 2.2.7.). NOTE: Do not classify a person who appears to be more a casualty as a deserter solely because the person has had access to classified material described herein. 1.5.2.3. Has gone to, or stayed in, a foreign country and, while there, has asked for or taken any type of asylum or resident permit from that country or its governmental agencies. 1.5.2.4. Has action pending on a previous unauthorized absence that has not been completed.Monster B - I have no doubts to his legitimacy as a result of anything the right-wingers have been trying to stir up.... maybe it's because of the hypocrisy that eminates from their supporters, but this just looks like yet another of their little con games... Just as the ideas they try to propogate regarding "taking away guns," or "he's a Mulsim," I mean, enough already. We know that a lot of the hard-right in this country aren't that bright and will believe anything, but for the rest of us, there comes a point where enough is just enough. more

Voting Question: I am active duty Air Force stationed in the UK; we are having a visa issue that we need help resolving?

My wife and child obtained their passports and visa's before coming to the UK with me. We have now been here for four weeks and found out yesterday that the visa's that they have are not the correct visa's. We were told by the Dependant Travel office at RAF Mildenhall that the visa's that they have are a code 3 visa which will not allow my wife to work while we are stationed here as well as only allowing them to remain in country for no more than 6 months at a time. They told us that we should have a code 1 visa which will allow my wife to work and them to remain in country while I am stationed here for a minimum of three years. They told us to contact the issuing agency that we obtained the visa's from which is Los Angeles however when we try to call them all we get is a pre-recorded message telling us to contact World Bridge(this by the way is the agency that my wife used to complete the original visa application which we now find is incorrect). Does anyone have any insight on how we can go about getting this corrected so that my wife can work while stationed in the UK as well as allow my wife and son to remain in country for the time that I am stationed here without having to return to the US every six months? It was my understanding that the purpose of obtaining a visa was to allow members to remain in the UK for more than 6 months...both of their visa's expire in March 2012 which is what my orders are for and they also state No work or recourse to public funds. We have emailed, called, left messages with several agencies but no one will return our emails or calls. If anyone can help us resolve this urgent issue it would be greatly appreciated. Give valid reasons for your opinion. ARGUMENTS FOR THE THIRD RUNWAY • Heathrow needs more capacity Heathrow runs at close to 100% capacity. With demand for air travel predicted to double in a generation, Heathrow will not be able to cope without a third runway, say those in favour of the plan. Because the airport is over-stretched, any problems which arise cause knock-on delays. Heathrow, the argument goes, needs extra capacity if it is to reach the levels of service found at competitors elsewhere in Europe, or it will be overtaken by its rivals. Passenger numbers may be down as recession takes hold, but proponents argue we should not base transport decisions on the bad times, but look ahead to future upturn in demand. • The third runway will boost the economy The third runway will be worth £7bn a year to the economy, according to airport owner BAA. Some say a third runway is the only solution to the congestion at Heathrow. Tens of thousands of jobs will be created - in construction in the short term - and for business and in tourism over the longer term. Lack of expansion at Heathrow would threaten London's position as trading capital of the world, throttling the very international links Britain was built on. Business leaders argue London deserves and needs an airport of international quality. • Pollution concerns are overplayed Those pushing for the new runway argue that pollution caused by the airport will be closely monitored. Meeting targets is a condition of expansion. By 2020, when the runway would be completed, new technology will mean planes are much quieter and less polluting. The Airbus A380 already demonstrates that planes are moving in this direction. If the runway were not built, the argument runs, there would be no cut in emissions. Flights would simply move to other European airports. CO2 would not be reduced, merely transferred elsewhere to the UK's detriment. • There is no alternative Building a brand new airport in the Thames Estuary is not feasible according to those in favour of the third runway. Transport Minister Geoff Hoon says lack of transport infrastructure, fears of 'bird strike', cost and lack of available finance all make the project prohibitive. ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE THIRD RUNWAY • We need to reduce, not increase, emissions Heathrow generates 50% of UK aviation emissions. This makes 6% of total emissions, according to Department for Transport figures. With a third runway and as the UK as a whole cuts emissions, Heathrow's contribution to overall UK emissions would rise significantly by 2050, some calculate to as much as 50% of total. A third runway could mean an extra 200,000 flights a year over London. Why should aviation capacity be increased indefinitely? At a time when most accept the need for emission cuts, say opponents, should we not stick with the capacity we have and allow market forces to price out inessential flyers? • Health of Londoners at risk A Greater London Authority (GLA) report suggested Heathrow would even now breach the EU regulations on levels of Nitrous Oxide due to come into force in 2010. Extra flights would only make this worse. Even the Environment Agency admits that with a third runway, Heathrow would breach these limits. The GLA study also found that the airport would breach noise pollution limits as a result of the extra flights. • Economic case overstated Many of the new passengers the extra runway would bring would be transit passengers. According to former BA boss Bob Ayling they would spend little or nothing in London, only boosting airline profits. According to Sir David King, former chief scientific adviser to the government, the runway would over time come to be seen as a 'white elephant'. Long before investment in it were repaid, demand for flying will have fallen away as pressure to reduce carbon increases and competition with other forms of travel grows. The downturn is already forcing people to find substitutes for air travel. This pattern will continue, he suggests. • Impact on the local area Transport infrastructure around Heathrow already struggles. The extra demands would create gridlock. To make way for the runway, Sipson - a village of 700 houses - would be demolished and hundreds of acres of greenbelt land would be swallowed up. • Alternatives For historical reasons, Heathrow is badly located. It is the only major airport with flight paths over a large capital city, for instance. Some, like London Mayor Boris Johnson, believe this is a perfect opportunity to start again and propose a new airport in the Thames Estuary. Planes would approach and leave over water, reducing the impact of noise and the airport could operate 24 hours a day. Resolved Question: Occupation forces in Iraq back to old tricks again? Please read informations and think positive.?

Last September, British soldiers, wearing Arab garb and head dress, were caught preparing for a terror attack in the Iraqi city of Basra. The British SAS drove their car towards a group of Iraq police and started opening fire at them. The fact that the occupation soldiers, later arrested and taken to a jail where they were confronted and interrogated by an Iraqi judge, the fact that they were dressed in Arab garb proves that the operation was staged so that eyewitnesses would believe Iraqis were behind the terror attack. But a few days ago, news reports uncovered anotehr evidence on how the current Iraqi quagmire is designed to degenerate into a chaotic abyss. Earlier this week, it was reported that Iraqi police arrested an American private security contractor working at a U.S. military base in the northern Iraqi town of Tikrit Iraq, after they found explosives in his car. The U.S. military confirmed the report. The man, who was stopped by police for violating a daytime curfew in the toppled Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's hometown, Tikrit, denied that he had explosives in his car, but said he had two AK-47 assault rifles. "He was picked up by Iraqi police after being detained at a checkpoint in Tikrit," the spokesman said, adding that the police later released him. "We are looking at why he left the base unescorted." It’s noteworthy that American security personnel rarely travel alone. At the same time another report emerged that the Iraqi Shia leader Muqtada Al Sadr accused the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency of orchestrating recent attacks in Iraq with the aim of instigating ethnic tension which would bring the country into a bloody civil war. "The American forces had provided an air cover, with several drones circling the Sadr city, and then cutting off all wireless communication throughout Sadr city, just before the setting off of the six car explosions that resulted in the death of around 60 people and the injury of 200 others in Sadr city on Sunday." At the time of Basra scandal, Iran's top military commander Brigadier General Mohammad-Baqer Zolqadr was quoted as accusing the occupation forces of staging terror attacks in Iraq. “The Americans blame weak and feeble groups in Iraq for insecurity in this country. We do not believe this and we have information that the insecurity has its roots in the activities of American and Israeli spies,” he said. “Insecurity in Iraq is a deeply-rooted phenomenon. The root of insecurity in Iraq lies in the occupation of this country by foreigners”. “If Iraq is to become secure, there will be no room for the occupiers”. Linking the two incidents in Iraq, the occupation forces’ tricks seem evident. As many analysts had pointed out, there’s a great possibility that the bloody attacks that take place in Iraq almost on a daily basis are the work of agents’ provocateurs working for the U.S.-led occupation. more
